New to Melbourne and decided to check out this bar based on Unilocal reviews. Kind of a hole in the wall. Admittedly I am more of a martini drinker and this place is not that. I asked the female bartender for a Baileys on the rocks. She said they didn’t carry it, I asked if they had anything else similar. She said no, which seemed odd because I thought I saw Kahula, so I just told her I was good. I walked back to the table and she asked my friend why I was in a bar like that and called me a snob!!! Granted I was dressed more martini/cigar bar but seriously who says that! What a b****! Will never go back. I am American maybe she was threatened…

Really nice eclectic venue serving eastern European/Polish foods and nice beers array, as well as a great selection of all vodkas, gins etc. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Sunday session is great with family or friends with some funky jazz tunes

Fits in perfectly next to section 8. Equally hip and cool with a great atmosphere. Just off one of the main streets and not somewhere you’d expect to find a cool bar like this.

I quite like this place. Tonight’s mission was lane way bars for a UK visiting friend she was impressed. Great cocktails, nice knowledge of the classics from the funky bartender too. The ambience is cutting edge funky. Mayb too funky for me. Great views of the light shows overlooking section 8 from the windows. Comfy cushions. Check it out! Ps. And it’s open on Monday night!

Really enjoyed this place! We’ve been to this little laneway gem twice now — the first time they were playing rather aggressive hip hop(no complaints here), the second; funk. They have an awesome beer list, the interior is grungy and cool, and the balcony looks over Section 8. The service has always been friendly and they were very patient with me as I struggled to hear what my friend was requesting from the bar. Thanks, guy!

Love this little bar. Went there on the way to section 8 on a Friday night. Cozy quirky little place which is above the hustle and bustle of china town. Great for a bite to eat after finishing work if your in the city. The hotdogs are really cheap and delicious. Dangerous on the price side being so cheap tho as you can’t help but have another. Great bar and recommend anyone to go :)

One of the first bars I went to when I arrived in Melbourne! Late on Friday night and the atmosphere was going off! Unique hidden-ish club down aw laneway just screams Melbourne! Walk up three levels and you reach the bar, with nice décor and deckin! A dj up in the air playing tunes and pumping out beats! Take a walk to the second level and you’ll reach a balcony overlooking section 8,(bunker turned outside bar) the outside inside bar. Cheap drinks, good specials and really cheap hot dogs! Yum :-) This place is great and when it’s a busy night it’s a good place to take your friends to show then Melbourne on your bar crawl!

Ferdydurke is a cosy little bar that’s great for a Friday night drink or few above the hustle and bustle of Chinatown. The cocktail list is interesting(try the Hemingway), however I found the rest of the drinks list a bit lacking — especially when I wasn’t drinking and was dying for a mineral water! That might just be me being fussy though.

Great venue and not as crowded as Section 8 downstairs. You can easily miss this place as its neighbour is the loud and bustling place that attracts the crowds… then you look up and see a few people hanging out on a balcony with a drink in hand. That was all it took to lure me away and find out what I was missing out on. A small entrance invites you in and takes you on a windy journey up a a few flights of stairs. You would be forgiven for walking into the kitchen thinking that that’s where the bar is — but keep going because when you get up there, it’s a real treat. The décor is rustic, warehouse styled with big arched windows on one end and cosy nooks on the other. Great for a group of friends or a more intimate catch-up. Tip: Cash up because the drinks are on the pricier side. $ 13 for a short glass of G&T.

Audrey lives here on Fridays with solid house music and now the menu has changed to incredible home made polish hotdogs. Venue renovations make the space more comfortable and drinks are as good as ever.

I have been popping in and out of this bar since the first week and every time I come back I like it more and more. Friendly staff who recognise not only what you had last time but are willing to let you try something different they know you will like. The fit out is the perfect all weather venue. high ceilings and a very New York loft feel wether it is raining and cold or hot it is perfect to either cosy up by the fire or sit on the window sill and enjoy the breeze that flows through all the open windows. The vietnamese menu while not exciting is filling for the price they charge, and on Mondays you can get a bowl of Phở for 99c!

With a fireplace in the winter time and open windows to experience the summer breeze — I think I have found a new regular haunt. I visited Ferdydurke for the first time on a stunning sunny Melbourne afternoon. The outdoor Section 8 was jam-packed, so we decided to head next door to the upstairs bar at Ferdydurke. Literally sitting on the window sill, it was the perfect spot to enjoy the Spring air without the crowd. An interesting beer list and full bar topped off the experience. Definitely heading back.
