Food and coffee are great and consistent. Price is fair, portions well served. Relaxed vibe, not some pretentious hipster café. Staff has always been friendly. One of my favourite cafés in Sydney.

Large servings and good service. The avocado and relish on toast is delicious. You can also make your own juice from a choice of many fruit and mixed many at no extra charge.

I just moved to the area and have started to check out the local cafés. Kelby’s is a good one! My brunch partner and I cycled there so we sat outside, so as not to offend the other diners with our cycling aroma and helmet hair. The staff are laid back and quirky, our waitress wanted to arrange the things on our table so that ‘it looked right’. I had a bacon and egg roll and my partner had a croissant with cheese and ham and both were great. Coffee is also good. 5 stars from me!

Came here to try something different in Marrickville. The shear size of these meals is incredible, very generous and well priced. Highly recommended!

The best coffee and breakfast menu in Marrickville. I’ve tried them all, and this one beats all the others in the area. Highly recommended!

One of the closest cafes to me, and a pretty popular Marrickville spot. Come for breakfast or brunch. The handful of tables — each different, and with its own eclectic bunch of chairs — are close together(with a few metal ones outside), so you’ll probably get to know your neighbour. The regular dishes — a big breakfast, poached eggs, etc — are bolstered by a tasty Egyption-style brekkie of humous and pumpkin and eggs on toast, with middle eastern spices. The sandwiches are big, too: I had a BLT that filled me up on my last visit. Got kids? Not a worry: there’s a well-stocked kids playroom at the back. It’s still a popular takeaway coffee spot for those who don’t head down towards the coffee zone nearer the train station.

Great! Friendly service, quick, very relaxed vibe(couches, old furniture, other trendy things, y’know?), and GREAT food. I had bacon, avo and tomato on toast for $ 8 and it was incredible. Plenty of bacon, plenty of sliced avocado, plenty of awesome. Plus, their coffee was excellent. I will be coming back, most likely many times.

We wanted to give Cornersmith a try, but after seeing the wait we quickly decided to wander up the street and check out Kelby’s instead. So glad we did! This café has some of the most amazing breakfasts! Their everyday menu is supported by a selection of amazing sounding specials hidden on the blackboards on the walls of the café. Deciding what to order was really difficult. We went for the Big Breakfast($ 15), the Veggie Breakfast($ 15 — with the most amazing home made baked beans) and the avacado, bacon and ricotta sourdough($ 8). All were generous and delicious. Coffee was also good. We’ll be back!

It opened its doors in 2004 and has undergone a change of owners since then, but Kelby’s is still one of the better café offerings in Marrickville. On the corner of Marrickville Road and Malakoff Street, you’ll recognise it by the colourful mural painted by the kids of the Dulwich High School of Visual Arts & Design Street Art Club. Inside, the walls are covered in festival and gig posters, which give it a nice community feel. The owners also display a new local artist’s work each month and there’s plenty of reading material if you’re dining solo. The staff are sweet and know how to make good coffee. Check the blackboard for daily lunch specials or go with my personal favourite, the vegie burger on Turkish. Loaded with a vegie patty, hummus, tomato and greens, it’s ginormous but greed always seems to get the better of me and I embarrassingly return my plate empty. The classic BLT is also a good’n, and for brekkie the avocado bruschetta with capsicum relish and rocket is great. The menu also says they’ll cook whatever you wish as long as they have the ingredients and the time — I haven’t put this to the test, but worth a try for the fussy eater!
