Nu Orleans is a hidden gem in Ipswich, its completely assatypical of good quality strong flavored nu Orleans food. We came on a quiet night, and got put upstairs and satu outside. The service was great, the staff were prompt, friendly and courteous, they also allowed some of the left over ribs to be taken away for take away The Food was great, more than what j was expecting from an Ipswich business and following the trend of many local businesses of providing great food and an affordable value. The Prawns were butterflied beautifully with heaps of garlic. And the ribs pulled very nicely off the bone. The buffalo wings could have been a little hotter so make sure if you like it hot to request as such, however the hicory and blue cheese sauce were some of the best I’ve bad Over all a pleasant dining experience I shall be returning

Very disappointing meals for our second visit and won’t be back after being dismissed by owner. First time I had the Shrimp Nu Orleans — very nice and very spicy, so decided to bring family back to try it. Last week it was absolutely tasteless with definitely no spice. Waitress said to let the cook/owner know and when we did we were fobbed off stating everyone complained about it being spicy so it no longer is presented as such. And oh, if you want it spicy next time, let them know and they’ll do it that way. Well, sorry, if you advertise the food as spicy you should tell customers that it is no longer spicy so they can decide how they want it, not wait for someone to query it… Husband had Bourbon Street Chicken first time and so daughter tried it this time — no where near the flavour there this time either… At spending over $ 180 for the dinner I won’t be coming back to see ‘if’ they can make it spicy next time. Then don’t get me started on the absolutely slow/poor service. First time service was extremely slow on quiet night but I liked the meal but this time the service was worse on another quiet night. If they can’t handle a half dozen tables at a time, then that is a concern. Even brought up jug of drink, waitress said she would get the glasses, waited 10 mins, saw us waiting and even had to get her attention to ask again for glasses. All this probably explains why it is so quiet when we had been by to eat. $ 180 for 5 people is not a cheap night out to have half the meals as tasteless.

This used to by 5−9-Lime and one of my favourite breakfast spots. Goes without saying… I was sad to see it close. But when one door closes… Along comes Nu Orleans with it’s spot on French inspired décor and traditional American style menu. We arrived just after the Mother’s Day lunch rush and the staff looked shattered, and from what I hear they had a massive day. Other than feeling like we were in the aftermath of a disaster film, the staff were friendly and helpful in finding us a table after madly trying to clean it for us. We all went for a burger option and weren’t disappointed. The chips were awesome and the chicken strips were something food legends are made of. The atmosphere was enhanced with a pianist tickling some jazzy ivory. I’m planning to go back soon for dinner and cocktails… Stay tuned for Part 2.

Nu Orleans is another relatively newcomer to the Ipswich dining scene, located right in the heart of town across from the Civic Center. This location was previously home to Figjam Café and 5 – 9 Lime, both of which were very decent eats, so they had big shoes to fill — and I think they’ve filled them well. Nu Orleans offers a very pleasant atmosphere complete with a large upstairs deck overlooking the street, and the trendy American style food such as ribs, wings, potato skins and burgers. Complete with a bar downstairs, and live music on some nights, it’s a good place to be. One of the very enticing things about Nu Orleans is that they open very late most nights(I think it’s every night except for Thursday’s), so if you’re hungry for a good feed later in the evening, you know where to go :)
