This cute little store has been around for about a year and half, but is quite easily missed. Look out for some cool typography on the storefront. Selling mostly accessories and home wares, this is great place to buy gifts for people. They also stock Dumbo Feather magazine, which is reason enough to drop in.

I have to concur with the other reviewers here; B&M Store is something special. I dismissed it as another gift shop for ages until I went in to check it out today; there’s such a wide variety of gifts in here that I could easily do all my Christmas shopping at once. Of course, they all have a certain aesthetic to them, but luckily that aesthetic is TOTALLYKICKARSE in a classy post-war kind of way, so I would be OK with everybody realising my presents all came from the same place. It is a touch pricey, but I know for a fact that it’s difficult to run a shop like this as actual sales are much less than the foot traffic you get through. An absolute gem of the West End.

At first glance, I put B&M into that pile of «curious, but I’d never actually buy» category. Heading in for a closer look however, I was entertained my the selection of Tin Tin merchandise, some wool-felt Mac Book sleeves and other handy study aids. All of which I would actually get great use, as well as joy out of. The wares are tip-toe into eccentric whilst holding onto practical. I also like the selection of notebooks and journals. They’re simple enough you wont grow out of them but with the right amount of character to make you want to cherish them. The coolest thing I found was the pixelated FarmVille-like print wrapping paper.

I want to make something out of pretty party felt. Maybe some pretty party felt pants. I could make them in women’s and men’s styles and give one to Bret from Flight of the Conchords to wear when he next sings his ‘pretty party prince’ song. That would be cool. It turns out, I won’t have to travel too far afield to source the top class felt I’m after. It’s right here at B and M store in Fremantle; premium German 100% wool design felt. It really is top quality and available in over 22 colours. Perfect for your felting needs! But if you’re not after felt, still come here. There are unique and inspiring gifts and knickknacs from all over the globe for you to feast your eyes on. The thing I love most about this store is that the German felt must have rubbed off on the other products. I’ve been to Germany a few times and it is the most stand out organised country I have ever set foot in. Not at all like higgeldy piggeldy Italy. Everything is organised down to the last iota. It’s the same in this shop. It’s not crowded, products are never bunched up. They stand to attention in a most orderly fashion. This is great; you can find exactly what you’re after and the sheer organisation the shop embodies is quite refreshing. Now I have to away; pretty party pants don’t make themselves, you know.

Lately it seems most stores are stocking the same products. Don’t get me wrong, all awesome things, but most quirky, «down the ally way and left at the cat in a bow tie» stores, which are cool and popular amongst hipsters and those who love art, are sourcing the same types of knick– knacks, jewelry, homewares and accessories. When I heard of B&M I kind of figured it would be the same as the others, cool but the same products. I couldn’t of been proven more wrong, as soon as I saw their framed Tin Tin posters in the window I was sold, completely in love. The store is small, but they’ve spaced out their products well so you don’t feel cramped or like there’s too much to look at at once. The range of children’s illustrated travel books are the most beautiful things I’ve seen in awhile and they stock some pretty original travel books, guides and equipment. They don’t have too much jewelry on show that you feel overwhelmed looking at it all. Their letterpress cards, gift tags and wrapping paper are absolutely stunning and handcrafted, you pretty much don’t want to wrap your gifts or send someone a card with anything less. Their style is simple, unique and taken with care. You can tell they’ve sourced products they really love and would use themselves and want to share with others. It’s an amazing place to buy gifts with products varying across all price ranges. Watch you don’t spend to long pouring over each product or too much money! Its beautiful but can be dangerous!

I’ve walked up and down High Street many a time, but somehow never really noticed B&M Store. I suppose it was just sitting there quietly, lying in wait until I finally saw it and ventured inside, upon which it would grab me in its stylish contemporary talons and hold me in its grip. This is exactly what happened(or something like that). I went in to have a look and was still there about half an hour later, ogling their adorable stationery and flicking through interesting art and design books. Besides this they stock quirky, modern homeware and gift items and, oddly, a lot of different kinds of coaster. Prices are a little on the high side, but I’d recommend it for its stationery.

B & M is one of those stores that stops you in your tracks, robs your of your time and assaults your wallet. You’re on your way to catch the bus and BAM! You’re overcome with an urge to enter the store with the TinTin paraphernalia, oohing and aahing over quirky stationary, beautifully designed clocks and handbags, art fringe books and hard to find magazines. Definitely had a eureka moment upon discovering they stock The Lifted Brow and New York Magazine! Originally a supplier of German felt products, B & M is now so much more than a place to shop when you’re in need of a lap top sleeve, washable coaster or coin purse. Although they don’t like to be labeled so, B & M is essentially a design store. They stock all manner of items that would make perfect gifts for the dearly beloved, or even mere acquaintances. Think 1940s slinkies, modern art prints, environmentally friendly coffee cups, and of course, a selection of felt products. I picked up a birthday card and some Christmas wrapping material last time I was there. The prices are quite expensive though, and perhaps only for those with a true appreciation for modern design and local designers.
