Close to city but good option if sunnybank is too far. Not as good as thr landmark yum cha place in sunnybank but its alright. Pricing is a bit high for the wuality of food but cant complain.

Food is good but daaaaaamn they take FOREVER to make it. I’m waiting here now for a special fried rice. Been waiting 10 minutes — not including when i left to go visit the supermarket downstairs! So it’s been ages and still waiting! Should have learnt my lesson last time.

I went to china house for yum cha on a Sunday at a little before 12. I had noticed it is under new management, and wanted to see if it was hopefully good. We were able to get a table straight away, but you can also book according to their web site. You can order off the menu or from the trolleys. The menu had all the usual yum cha dishes you would expect, and the 5 or 6 things we tried were well made and hot. The restaurant was clean, and the staff were helpful and seemed to be really trying to please the customers. I used to be a yum cha regular, but got out of the habit somehow, but i will be going back here.

DONOTGOTOCHINAHOUSE! I wish someone had told me that before I went. I can’t even describe how bad the service was… We repeatedly asked for our drinks and the waiters didn’t bother going to the bar and we had to ask the manager to get them for us. The waiters had no idea what table ordered what meal and we’re putting down meals on the wrong tables? We finally got our meals and they forgot to bring out the rice after 15 minutes they finally brought it out and our food was already cold. It wasn’t just us, everyone in the restaurant was so frustrated at the staff as they kept messing up everything. Definitely the worst dining experience of the life and I will never go back!

This was night 1 of my Australia trip where I was staying at Backpackers literally 2 seconds away from the titled«Chinatown». I have to first say is I’m disappointed in how they could even call this a ‘town’ as the whole area is probably a half block long with just a dozen shops here and there. It was my first time in Brisbane, and I took awhile to really explore the city, but my hunger got the best of me, and I had to stop and eat something. China House looked like a good option, so I stopped and got a table for 1. The menu is kind of ‘dodgy’ as Aussies would say as the binding on the menu is barely in tact as well as the prices are overlaid with multiple stickers(of course with higher prices from the previous one). I ordered the combination noodles plate, and it came out relatively quickly. I wasn’t too impressed with the flavors as the sauce was watered down and the portions weren’t that large. I paid close to $ 15 for this meal am not sure if I would come back.

I’m with Lizan, this yum cha stalwart is resting on the laurels of great yum cha memories. The décor is dingy(which is not usually an issue for me unless I’m not enchanted with the food) and the yum cha seems sub standard to what I remember. Fried stuff not crispy, savoury stuff too salty and sweet things too, well, processed and sweet. I will have to start heading further afield the next time we get a yum cha craving as China House is no longer up to par.

I visited China House for Yum Cha with a few family members. Actually there were six adults and five kids, some of them small enough to want to explore beneath the cloth of our big, round table, in between chairs and legs. The China House staff were very accommodating and gave us a table out of the way of too many trolley wheels etc. We had a great extended Yum Cha, with really good dumplings and sticky rice; the chicken sticks were OK too. The service as usual at Yum Cha was very attentive but they were good at bringing green tea and water as well as the beers and soft drinks so that was a plus. We had a great time. Good all year round but super busy at Chinese New Year obviously.

I might be a bit biased here, but yum cha in the valley is not as good as it used to be. I was here on a busy Saturday at 11pm and my husband and I wanted to get some yum cha, so up the big staircase we go to Chinahouse… having been here many times before. The waiter refuses to seat us on a table in the middle, but insists we sit on a teeny tiny table on the side right next to the staircase mainly because he explained, that they were about to get very busy so had to seat accordingly. Well, let me tell you Unilocalers out there, in the 45 minutes we were there busy is something they did not get. We were left eating dim sum that was not hot, rolled around for a while and not that fresh either. Maybe we’ve been spoilt by the likes of the places in Sunnybank, but we weren’t impressed. The dishes weren’t as big as they used to be, the staff not as friendly, and seating us to the side in an awkward table was not cool.

When I was a kid, China House was the go-to place for whenever my family had a hankering for yum cha. There are seven of us all together, and the tables and staff there were always accommodating and still are. You’ll often see large tables of extended families getting together on the weekends, or groups of backpackers tucking into dumplings and resting their sandalled feet. The yum cha* at China House is up to par on most occasions.(Sometimes there isn’t much of a selection on the trolleys and you’ll need to place an order to have it specially made.) My favourites are prawn rice rolls, prawn dumplings, tofu broth in sweet syrup, and chicken feet — all of which come at set prices. If you’re feeling adventurous you can order a plate of pig’s blood, which is served in gelatinous cubes. My mum’s a fan of this dish but I’ll risk anaemia. China House is upstairs on Duncan and Wickham St. The Duncan St entrance is more extravagant, and at night there will be a girl standing by the doors in traditional Chinese garb waving a menu around for your perusal. It’s nice having dinner upstairs, away from the chaos of night revellers, and when it’s Chinese New Year you can see the festivities unfolding from the restaurant windows. The décor is quite grand and looks like a converted ballroom: high ceilings, carpeted floors, and a stage for wedding banquets and photographs. Sometimes when you come in on a Friday night, you’ll see the staff have already erected some decorations for a wedding the next day. My tips for eating at China House would be to be careful of the slippery ground outside the toilet area. Don’t worry: the water isn’t anything suspicious; it’s from the staff fishing out writhing cod from the bubbling tanks. So be careful if you’re wearing shoes without grip. Also, China House has no set closing hour — they state they’re open ’til late, but always book beforehand to ensure you aren’t locked out. *Yum cha is served from 10am-3pm on Mondays-Saturdays, and 9:30am-3pm on Sundays.
