WINE. I love wine. Rochford wines was a stop on our self traveled wine tour. It was a real fancy winery it looked very nice, with a beautiful restaurant at front and the barrels for the wine making at back. Very elegant place. Wine tasting done at the bar, and rooms provided for a more indept wine tasting for bigger groups. Great layout and cool mini store to purchase all the goodies. As we arrived we saw people riding on Segways. I got excited and jumped out the car and ran over to them. They run there business on the same grounds just outside the winery. So yeah go for a few wines and them jump on a segway, an awesome time out. Something to add to your wine tour.

This was one of the wineries we visited on our tour through the Yarra Valley. During our tasting we got to try the Rose, Chardonnay, and the Pinot Noir. I enjoyed all of the tastings with the Chardonnay being my favorite. Afterward we had lunch at their restaurant where I had the beef cheek for my meal. It was accompanied by a glass of the pinot noir. The beef cheek was tender and moist. The dessert I had was the chocolate cake. The large cake slice was nice and dense with a heavy chocolate fondant frosting. I could not stop myself from eating all of it. Afterwards, my table mate and I decided to try more wines from the tasting room. We tried several other red and white wines offered from their tasting selection. Our server let us try the 2009 Merlot, which was not on the list. This one we both liked and we both ordered couple of bottles. Just then our tour bus driver came looking for the both of us we had to leave, as we both kept the bus from leaving.

We had set out for a leisurely Saturday drive and lunch with our 3 children. No need to make a reservation that day — the restaurant staff were very welcoming and set up a table for 5 — just for us — next to a large roaring fire. The $ 10 Children’s menus were perfect and pleased the hungry little ones with a gourmet touch on stock standard«kids meals». We had the 3 course menu($ 65 — not sure if this was a Wellington Boot season special) which was just perfect. All we wanted on that winter day was to have a delicious, enjoyable meal together and they met our expectations. Perfectly cooked meals, unpretentious combinations of flavours with just enough flair to make them a little bit delightful too :) My husband had wine matching with his meals and they were well suited to each course. We were only disappointed we couldn’t purchase one of the wines. the«Gauche» from the cellar door afterwards. Be sure to climb to the top of the spiral staircase if you’d like to enjoy the viewing deck too!

Rochford Wines has hosted a series of concert events throughout the years. My experience at Rochford was for a Cuban Jazz festival. I remember the weather wasn’t that great but it didn’t seem to matter all that much as the crowd and vibe were still soaking up all the atmosphere and loving it. We had a sit down lunch in the restaurant dining hall then sat down as groups for a scheduled wine tasting. The experience was up close and personal both in the restaurant and during the wine tasting. You had the opportunity to ask questions about the wines and purchase them at a later stage. Bands, live Jazz acts and other entertainment accompanied by food stalls took up the other half our day, along with siting on the green, relaxing, listening to music and appreciated a good wine.

Rochford Wines is such a spectacular space. Located an hour out of Melbourne CBD past the ‘Green Belt’, Rochford is a Winery, Art Gallery, Restaurant, Café and Festival Ground. I took some family down here for the day and they were(as i always am) so impressed by Rochford. The space is beautiful, both inside and out. The scenery was lush and green, the indoors beautifully designed and the Art was spectacular. Hanging on the walls you will find the likes of Norman Lindsay and Sidney Nolan; all for purchase. The winery has a restaurant that kicks butt! Providing both inside and outside seating, we scoffed our delicious meals inside(as the rain kept us in) and were blown away by the flavours in our meals. I chose the Beetroot Risotto(as it was the only vegetarian item on the menu) and was(to be honest) not expecting much but i was definitely surprised by how tasty it was. My family all said their meals were great as well. They have a great selection of wines here at Rochford, Buttery Chardonnay’s and Crisp /Spicy Red’s, all such grand wines to sample. On top of the restaurant and wines, they have a Fudge Bar! The Fudge Bar was incredible, Orange infused Dark chocolate fudge, White chocolate macadamia fudge, Chocolate expresso and they even had scrumptious macrons for $ 2 a pop. The grounds are also subject to festivals and gigs. We were told that last week they had MeatLoaf perform and had a Jazz festival the day before we arrived which saw the likes of 3000 people on the grounds. I was happy to walk away with a bottle of Fortified Red which tasted like Cherry and chocolate infused red wine(It will definitely not last long in this house!).
