The Seymour theatre is located in the Sydney Uni campus area. The facilities include a number of performance theatres with a variety of different shows on offer from local university productions to specialist shows. The Seymour theatre provided me with my first experience of the Ballet. I had that Homer Simpson thoughts of the ballet being«do do dododo do do do» like the circus instead of la la la kick kick kick kick and legs everywhere. The show was different and a new experience at the least. The theatre was comfortable and provides the audience with an intimate space given that it’s venue holds only about 80 – 100 people. The lighting was good in the theatre with plenty of good spot lights to add mood to the show. Overall good theatre and would come back again but perhaps not for the ballet. Seymour by name and See More by nature.

This centre has changed quite a lot since I was here in the mid 1970s when it wasn’t too much trouble to park in the street. We decided to get dropped off and picked up this time as the performance was just an hour long as it was for kids. Our transport went to Broadway shops and browsed. The theatre seating is good. Even with a tall and/or large person in front, the tiering allows you to see over them. Not so good for little kids as we had to do a shuffle so kids were sitting behind kids. Strangely, we got the impression that the performers were happy to be there too as they seem to be getting excellent support from the backstage guys when things went astray. We brought our own snacks rather than pay at the snack bar. The performance was good. We got out pretty quick and across City Road to the playground to wait for our pickup.

Teenage girls. Hundreds and hundreds of teenage girls. Walking into the Seymour Centre is like taking a stroll around my mind on a weekend. Only without the, y’know, the teenage bit. Because prison. I hadn’t been here for years(for Paul Keating: The Musical, if memory serves) and while it’s a bit gloomy and dated inside — UTS students will feel right at home — it more than makes up for this by buzzing with people and excitement and a program of innovative and thought-provoking theatre and live performance that has you walking away a better, more complete person. We saw — wait for it — the Golden Girls Tribute Show. WITHPUPPETS. Wrap your head around that, if you can. Oh, oh, and the car park on weeknights is $ 2/hour up to a maximum of $ 6. I haven’t seen prices that low since the Great Recession.

A lot goes on in the Seymour Centre; be it theatre, live music or Cabaret, there’s always some artistic endeavour gracing Seymour’s stage. A friend of mine once sang some Cabaret in the downstairs sound lounge, a small, intimate space with a classy bent and a bar where you could order drinks in between songs. Blue lighting met us as we walked into the performance arena, a few pillars standing in the way of a proper view of the stage. We made our way around the artists-pallet shaped room and took our seats at an empty table. She sang, we watched, she joked and we laughed. Her personal storytelling amid classic songs and timeless pieces perfectly suited to the welcoming, familial atmosphere of the Seymour Centres sound lounge. A performance space small enough to make occasional eye contact with the performer and feel involved slightly, yet large enough to maintain anonymity should you wish. A comfortable and intimate space in a large and diverse theatre.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the Seymour Centre, both as a patron of the arts(if you’ll excuse me, I’d like to indulge my ego there) and as a ratty high schooler on work experience, sitting in a control booth with nothing but Nescafe and a well thumbed copy of the Drum(and that’s my indulgence for self-deprecation). Although we did get to play in the costume area under the stage for a bit. For a time, my drama class had mandatory Belvoir tickets and that theatre group had relocated to the Seymour Centre. Here we caught a number of their productions(my favourite being about the gentleman in love with a ewe) and when I was on work experience I split my time here and at the renovations of Belvoir. I think I might even be in a picture of the construction crew. I haven’t been back for a while but as a venue, this is an excellent choice — the sight lines are all carefully considered, meaning that you will generally land a good seat, even if you don’t get a «good seat». Parking may be a little tough for some, but you could swing a spot on the Sydney Uni campus behind the venue.

If you’re sick of seeing another flick at the movies why not try seeing a live show at the seymour centre, Sydney Uni’s performing arts venue. The Seymour Centre has been around since 1975 and holds live theatre shows, comedy acts, dance and musical acts throughout the year. They have a few different theatres, a sound lounge and also a rehearsal studio depending on the show and capacity. I’ve been here a few times, but the reason I visited here the other day was for a dance show that was held in the York Theatre, the largest theatre at the Seymour. The semi-circular amphitheatre configuration of the space is one of the better designed venues I’ve been in that allow all spectactors regardless of where they’re sitting a good view of the show. The Seymour Centre is a good place to catch up with a few friends and watch a live performance all while support the performing arts industry.

The Seymour Centre is part of the University of Sydney. It’s a large, modern theatre centre, and has three theatres of differing sizes, allowing it to stage all sorts of shows. I’ve been to two of the theatres and they’re comfortable, well air-conditioned, good-sounding, and sensibly laid-out: all undoubtedly the result of being fairly new. It’s got a lounge that can be booked for intimate shows or other events. You can purchase ice cream, snacks and drinks from the lobby, though be prepared to part with several dollars for each. There’s a very relaxed bar and BBQ out in the front courtyard. It’s a handy spot, but I much prefer the Duck & Swan( ) around the corner.
