No the usual takeout Thai place. This was the best Thai we had in Australia, wonderful service and elegant décor. They source locally and everything tasted fresh. A little more spice would be in order to be authentic, but the other flavoers were excellent.

Byron Bay has unlimited options when it comes to delicious, gourmet-style restaurants. Traditional Thai is no different! Located near the beach end of Fletcher street this jewel will definitely not disappoint even the most discerning diner. Beautifully decorated in the Thai-style with options to sit either in or out depending on the weather you should definitely give this place a try– especially if you love Thai food! My partner and I came in for dinner and, even though it was a Monday, it was extremely busy! We were lucky enough to be seated at one of the big lounges, it had been a long day so felt good to kick off our shoes and lay back on the super comfortable cushions. Our waitress was extremely friendly and very attentive and we ordered almost straight away. To drink I ordered a ‘Ruby Red’ which was a Gin Cocktail special they had for the evening, my partner had a Caprioska– he was feeling fruity! On the food end of things we ordered the Rice Paper Rolls with Chicken to share for an entrée and then our Mains were the Pork Hock(which was really incredible and closer to Pork Belly– totally melted in our mouths!) and the Pad See Ew with Chicken. Everything was extremely fresh, well prepared and tasted wonderful although I definitely recommend the pork above anything else. I will definitely be coming back here again and recommending to my friends– it is nice to dine off the main street sometimes :)

Seriously disappointing! I too had anticipated a great meal after it being recommended — however, not even a silver lining to share here… All 4 of us were less than impressed with our(take away) meals. The 2 curries(green chicken and beef panang) had separated — so visually was unapealling before we started. Coconut rice was overcooked and clumped together… Rice paper rolls were bland and the crispy duck salad lacked flavour too. Needless to say, the exxy price of the meals only intensified the pain of a bad meal. Unless you’re dead set in need of thai, I’d try another restaurant or eat elsewhere while in Byron.

What a disaster! Came here with great expectations after multiple positive references and recommendations. Firstly they brought the food out at completely random times, my entrée arrived after several other main dishes, pretty well at the same time as my main, which is pretty bad form. Two people in our group ordered a fried rice special of the day and literally could not eat it because it was too salty. The restaurant ended up not charging us for it thankfully. However the two stir fries were also overly salty. The final put-off was that their kitchen seemed to be having an extractor disaster happening and all the smoke & cooking smells were blowing straight into the restaurant in thick clouds. My hair, my brand new dress, my friend’s new jacket — all smells like greasy Thai as if we’d spent the day sweating in the kitchen. And to add insult to injury once they took away the inedible food and cleared our table they left us with empty water glasses and no water to quench our thirst after all the excess salt.

The place was nice, service was good, food was nice. Good clean food, would go again. 4 stars Highlight was the duck spring rolls, they were excellent. The Thai green chicken curry was excellent and chicken Pad Thai was also good. With 3 small starters to share between two and 2 mains, we had plenty of food. The green curry was a nice peppery/chilli heat, not too much, but gave enough of a buzz to keep you happy. The coconut rice was tasty too. Cocktails were good, and we thought the staff were attentive and cheerful.

Very tasty(plenty of chilli!) but quite exxy, particularly with the Sunday surcharge. If you’re used to quick and cheap Thai food as found in Sydney or Melbourne(or, well, anywhere!) you’ll be in for a bit of a shock — this restaurant clearly caters to the older, well-heeled hippies/city refugees. Its no bad thing, as the setting is lovely and the service very friendly. Loved the duck spring rolls and the soft shell crab in eggnet(just gorgeous, with plenty of fresh herbs). Vegetable curry also got a good review, but the goat curry was too spicy for some of us(I liked it, but I’m a chilli fiend).

The more restaurants I look for, the less I think Australians use Unilocal.Anyways this restaurant is two things: delicious and expensive. The backpacker based staff was very friendly, and the green curry and pad see ew were amazing. Portions weren’t overly generous, and for the price I was kind of hoping for more. But then again I’m accustomed to US prices, so everything in this country is expensive. Plus we were in a very touristy town so obviously prices would be ridiculous. I’d still come back if I were to visit Byron again(which I’m in no hurry to do).

The more expensive experience of my two nights eating Asian in Byron Bay; Traditional Thai had an older, affluent crowd in a impressive setting. The prices reflected as much and, given that I’m paying in UK sterling against the Aussie $$, I did think it was rather expensive for what you got. The food was very decent though, just not much of it. The green curry was very tasty(although not nearly spicy enough) and the pad thai was one of the better I’ve had before. We ate up relatively quickly and left; but we’d got there quite late and this was in winter and Byron is much quieter.
