This place has very nice fish. You have your choice of it grilled or fried in tempura batter. I got the fish grilled considering I was also eating fried calamari and chips and the fish tasted very fresh. Unfortunately the chips were too salty for me and the calamari is in my opinion slightly overcooked(a bit rubbery). I also think their tempura batter on the fish and other seafood items is way better than the bread crumb batter that comes on the calamari. You get a ton of chips with your meal, so even if you have a big appetite you won’t leave hungry. For those looking for a healthier option, they also allow you to get your fish with salad and grilled corn, or tempura vegetables, instead of chips. Many people at my table opted for the grilled baby octopus salad and that looked very tasty. I suspect both these vegetable side options are winners over the chips. No alcohol available, but BYO is a plus in my opinion, as you can get better wine for your money. Skip the bottleshop a few doors down, as they are overpriced(and don’t have a great selection). «The Cellar» a few blocks away, has some great, reasonably priced wine that paris quite nicely with the fish served here.

Amazing! We had the snapper and canjun spice with salad corn and pesto, and the salt and pepper king prawns with chips. Both from the specials board and both delicious and full of flavour. We sat outside and bought a bottle of red with us so it worked out to be a really easy cheap meal.

Tasty fish and good value for the money! Meal: pack for two($ 41). Contained: two LARGE pieces of battered barramundi, four calamari, two prawns, two oysters, two potato pancakes and too many chips to finish. De-li-cious. Needed larger sizes of tartar sauce for that much dipping, and a bit pricy at $ 1 per extra. Our friend ordered the veggie tempura which had every kind of veggie imaginable in delicious batter — cauliflower, corn, broccoli, zucchini, capsicum, mushroom, and more. The seating is limited, but there is patio space to watch the hordes of tourists passing by. BYO wine highly suggested as no liquor avail to purchase. Calamari was worth an order of its own. Servers attentive and friendly despite it being packed. Takeaway is a good option as well, although the presentation of the meal in the large square black bowls is quite appealing.

We were starving after spending the morning surfing. We saw two gals with takeaway boxes that looked too good to NOT ask where they were from. They kindly directed to Fishmongers Byron Bay. We made the right choice. Fish and chips with a twist. They off you a main and basically four options of «sides.» You can have chips, rice, tempura veggies, or one other option. My gal pals and I had ordered the calamari, hoki fillets, australian prawns, and barramundi. Everyone was very pleased with their order and full by the end of the meal. Presentation deserves a mention. They make sweet potato chips and use them as a nice décor/top to some of the dishes. Plenty of chips were in the bowl if not too many. I would have liked two lemon wedges but then again, I LOVE lemon. Great place for lunch or takeaway and have on the beach nearby. Would definitely recommend it to someone who was trying to find a fish and chips place that is above average.
