Vanilla Pod

Collected a friend from the airport and popped in here to wait for a second friend’s arrival. What a find! Gorgeous selection of desserts, presented with creative flair. Coffee was great and my friend’s white hot chocolate was absolutely decadent!

Easily the best hot chocolate I have tasted in Brisbane, who’d have thought? Hot chocolate mind you, not Italian chocolate. That’s another story.
We had the raspberry crumble and caramel tart and they were magnificent, really fresh pastry and it wasn’t overly sweet and overpowering. Just the right combinations of flavours, what a delight to eat. The icing can be a bit sweet on certain cakes and desserts but just scoop it off, the cake still tastes just as good.
The cakes aside, my friend did want a gluten free cake and they told her one of their cakes were, but they weren’t. So not a great experience for her, with the saying it was gluten free but served a not gluten free treat was not good. Other than that, the staff are really friendly, remember a lot of older customers and serve you quite a good coffee as well.

If somebody ever asked me what kind of cake I want for my birthday (hint: please someone buy me a birthday cake one year), I wouldn’t even hesitate before requesting one of Vanilla Pod’s perfect cakes. When it comes to cake I adore your standard white cake, buttercream icing combo and Vanilla Pod nails it. Not even, they take it to a whole other level. Their cake is perfectly fluffy and the icing is colourful and sweet. They do tonnes of different shapes and pictures, too, which entices the kid in me who still wants a Minnie Mouse cake. Aside from cakes made to order, they function as a wonderful little café too. Their cabinet is a colourful array of cakey goodness. I can vouch for the awesomeness of their lavender and vanilla butter cake, their red velvet cake, and their cute little cupcakes. They make cake pops too, and I love going in and seeing what shape they’ve made this time. Look at the Muppet ones in the photos I put up. Nawwww!
I was introduced to Vanilla Pod by a friend who took me here saying I just had to try their hot chocolate. I’m glad I did: you get a jug of hot, frothy milk and a pot of molten liquid chocolate, and a spoon. What else do you need?! As if cake and hot chocolate wasn’t enough, Vanilla Pod also sells deli items and providore type stuff. They have the largest range of Wilton cake tins I’ve ever seen and I love to sit inside eating my cake and looking at all the different cake tin shapes where they’re hung around the top of the shelves.
I’m going to make a bold statement, but I really mean it. Best cake in Brisbane.
