If you have ignore the huge pokies room this is actually a pretty good pub. The place have had a complete make over in recent years, in particular the bar out the back, but in some ways this place seems to be first and foremost a restaurant. I’ve eaten here a few times(and even tried their stone grill, where you get a really, really hot paving stone to cook your meat on, and when you see the meat cook it gives you a really good idea what would happen to your hand if you actually touched it — which I haven’t). The place gets pretty crowded at night, and the beer garden itself is pretty good, though I must say that the last time I was here I was quite lucky to find a seat.

The Strath. This is one of my favourite places to go after serving other people all night myself. They are open quite late in comparison to other places near by and will still have a small crowd at weird times like midnight on a monday. If you work in hospitality try and get a membership here as you will get cheaper drinks. There is an outside area which is really comfy with nice couches and reasonable seats, so you don’t have to perch on a stool after walking round for 8 hours. The staff here are really friendly and you can tell they enjoy hospitality generally as they don’t look like they’ve been sentenced and cuffed to the bar like some people do. I hear good things about the stonegrill from meat eating mates, and the burgers and other foods are all pretty reasonably priced as well as tasty. The restaurant upstairs is a bit fancy, I haven’t been but if you like a bit of glamour I would recommend it.

Have been here a few times for drinks. Decided to eat here the other day, went on a sat evening didn’t book did get a bit busy in restaurant once we was in so if thinking of going later in evening may be best to book. I had the stone grill steak which was good; you can cook your own food on a steaming hot stone plate to the way you like. Great place, service was good and price’s was reasonable.

One of the updated Pubs of Adelaide. Going the food route. They’re part of the ‘Stone Grill’ group, able to purchase a slab of meat(or chicken or fish) on a very hot piece of slate to cook it yourself while supping on the sides. On the whole a decent enough Pub in the City

Well well little Strathmore, you went and got yourself renovated like all the other grown up hotels, didn’t you? When on earth did this happen? I know The Strath as a filthy hospitality haunt where we would get pissed at three o clock in the morning and watch people urinate on the pool table. But look at it now! Cosy booths, raised wooden decking, plasma Televisions, even Ipod docks! We ended up here the other night after our staff show and we had a lovely time, hanging out in the booths and drinking nice wine. It was quite busy for a Tuesday night, people constantly coming and going and there is a really nice ambient buzz about the place now that never used to be there. Because of the relaxed after work drinks vibe, the crowd is quite varied, and all the youngsters and oldies looked at home in the new Strath. Guess what everyone? No more public urination up in here any more, it’s time to use the urinals like in the other pubs!

Me Man! Me Like Eat, Like Eat Meat! When early man discovered fire, he also discovered that dead animals held over fire taste good. One day one such ‘Caveman’ dropped his hunk of Sabertooth Tiger on one of the stones that bordered the fire and low the stone grill was born! Today, cooking meat has not become any more complex and the Stone Grill can be found at the Strathmore Hotel. Sounds simple doesn’t it? How could it possibly be THAT great? Well, it is… in fact it is ‘groin grabbingly’ good! The rest of the Strathmore isn’t too shabby either really. It is just a simple pub, with an arrange of pokies on offer, but it has a good feel to it, and it is very easy to settle in for a solid drinking session!

First time EVER trying the stonegrill Dining Experience, and also first time trying kangaroo and croc :) With a 400 degree stone(supposedly ;)) the meat is the exact bloodiness you want it to be, given that you aren’t a horrible cook and take your meat off when you are satisfied with how done it is. I prefer my red meat relatively red, so i took it off within 5 minutes(Just after searing about 5 mm in. The piece of Kangaroo meat itself was around 8cmx8cmx4cm. Along with the crocodile there was also sausage and side of veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. Paired with a nice Cab this was a really good meal! I have heard before that Kangaroo meat is tough and gamey, but I found the meat at this establishment to be soft, not too seasoned but also not too gamey, and also a large heaping portion! I believe that whole meal was under 40AUD! Tasty meal, great price :)
