Wombats City Hostel

This is the first hostel I have ever stayed in, and because of Wombats, I now have very high expectations for hostels. I loved everything about it! It’s location in the city was great. The happy hour was AMAZING! And it was just full of cool and friendly people. Plus, their wifi was bomb! I really look forward to staying here again, either in Munich or in one of their other locations.

5 star fantastic! Easily one of the best hostels you will EVER stay in! It’s seriously top draw and for the price you pay, it’s a steal!
I opted to stay in a dormitory and go old school. I was a bit apprehensive, I’m not gonna lie, as I’ve only done this once before, but I shouldn’t have worried. I shared a room with 5 other lovely girls and the room was spacious, so you didn’t feel cramped at all. I was lucky to have the top bunk and it had a little tiny table on the side of the bed to charge your phone and put any jewellery you had. A total win for me, as I’m forever in need of a plug and a phone charge.
Storage wise, you had a locker each, which was locked with a key card, you received when you checked in! The locker was big enough to fit a small suitcase, shoes and a hand bag. A decent size if you’re travelling! I like the key idea, as it made me feel like my things were totally secure!
The room had one bathroom which came with he necessities, and the shower was super powerful, with the water always hot! A total winner!
Downstairs was fantastic, there was a spacious bar, so you could get to know lots of other travellers and the drinks were a very reasonable price, with beer coming in at 2 €-3 €. Bargain! They even have two happy hours on per night, so you get an even better deal! Plus you also get a free welcome drink on your first night to help you settle in!
My favourite area of the hostel was the seating area, which had a clear roof, so felt like you were outside, as it was so brightly lit, but you were still in the warm. The seats were über comfortable and wifi was great, as was the case with the whole of the building! I loved to sit here to read my book or catch up on emails.
All in all, one of the best staying experience I’ve had while travelling worldwide and I wouldn’t think to stay anywhere else next time I come to Munich!

Great hostel and bar, HOWEVER the reason it’s getting a low rating is because of one of the men that works at the front desk that hangs around the bar at night. I never got his name but he was so rude and wouldn’t stop talking to everyone in the bar about «how much he hates me» for no reason. He was creepy toward my friends and was so rude I wanted to leave.

Absolutely love this hostel. Cheap and awesome! Met so many people from all over the world. They have a great lounging area. They also have a great bar area. The environment overall is great. Everyone at the front desk was extremely chill and friendly. They answered all my questions and helped me out with my valuables. (You can leave them in a locker before you check in) I stayed here for two days and it was great. The first night I stayed in a 6 bed room and the second night I stayed in a 10 bed room. I highly recommend the 6 because there is only one bathroom! It sucks when people are showering or using the restroom because you have to wait. I had to unfortunately wait for 30 minutes for a roommate that was taking a dump. 30 minutes? Damn. With the 10 people, there were always lines for the restroom. The 4^th floor didn’t have a communal restroom. We had to go all the way to the ground floor in order to use it. Anyway, I love wombats. It would have been 5 stars if it wasn’t for the 1 bathroom for 10 people situation. The hostel is in a great location. I walked to all of the places that I wanted to visit!

Easily the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Extremely clean. Everything is brand new and smells that way. Atmosphere is great especially in the bar area which has cheap drinks but provides the opportunity to meet people to go out and do things with. Good location across street from Hauptbahnhof and right next to other hostels. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Wombats was a fun hostel, especially if you’re looking to party your entire stay in Munich. Awesome happy hour and the bar downstairs is always hopping. Great location, 3 minute walk from the train station. We did the free city walking tour through the hostel as well as the tour through the concentration camp. You’re also in walking distance from central square and a handful of Bier Gardens!
Good to know before going to Europe that if you’re staying in Hostels, you may run into bed bugs. People backpack and sleep in their sleeping bags on the beds, it’s typically hard for hostels to control, just be aware and keep your luggage off your bed! We had a minor issue but the hostel took it seriously and switched our rooms!

BEST HOSTEL EVER!!! I backed packed to 13 different countries in 2006.
The Wombat Hostel was one of the many I stayed in— 7 years later I still talk about this hostel and my wonderful experience. I remember the staff being Awesome! I still have one of the dollars for the bar downstairs :0) They also told us everything we needed to know– and the places to go!!! I give this hostel an 11 on a scale from 1 – 10. When I go back– this is my place to stay… Even if it’s with the family! :0)

Hostel is just prefect, clean, 2 min walk from train station highly recommended if visiting Müchen

This place is fantastic! So clean, gorgeous, and roomy.
Check in is at 2 pm, they won’t let you check in any sooner. It wasn’t an issue for me, though, but just to let you know. The process is pretty smooth and the staff all appear to be bilingual, speaking at least both German and English.
The room itself was huge. Far bigger than any other hostel I’ve stayed in. I was in a six-​bed female room, and there was a huge seating area (a picnic bench) and… a fan! What a nice surprise. There were individual lockers for you to store your stuff, but there’s also so much floor space, you can keep your stuff on the floor by your bed or even under your bed.
There are elevators, so thankfully there’s no lugging your heavy suitcase up maybe four flights of stairs. There is laundry (albeit very expensive, I think it’s € 2,50 for the washer and € 3,50 for the dryer, though detergent is free) on the second floor.
Furthermore, a little tidbit if you share your room with a bathroom hog: there are also communal bathrooms (toilet, shower, everything) on each floor. They are clearly marked with a sign, so if you really have to use the bathroom but you can’t use the one in your room, you’re in luck.
I didn’t eat breakfast, but it was only € 4 and is pretty well-​stocked. There are also fresh sheets (they are bagged and everything, I happened to see the company making a delivery of a bunch one day so they’re definitely not just re-​wrapping dirty sheets or anything).
The WiFi is free and is now throughout the entire building! Previously it was only on the ground floor. It works okay, it gets sluggish during peak hours but given that I’d been in Europe for over a month at this point, I knew to expect it. It’s password-​protected, but you are given logon information upon arrival.
Furthermore, if you don’t have a computer, there are two to use for pay (coin operated). There’s also a huge common area on the ground floor that’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s not a tiny table, but a huge room like one would see in a hotel. Plenty of places to sit, such as hammocks and chairs. There’s trees in there too, it’s a lovely atmosphere. Guests are encouraged to go down there at night, making the hallways and rooms really quiet at night. You also get a free drink ticket upon check in, in case you want to partake.
The location is perfect. It’s just across the street from the Hauptbahnhof (the south side, to be specific — there are multiple entrances/​exits for the Hbf). One block away is a grocery store, Lidl, though take note there are no fridges or ovens at the hostel. But if you want to buy water bottles or any shelf-​stable food, it’s so convenient. Given its proximity to the Hbf too there are so many food options right by the hostel. There’s a pizza place, of course döners, even a currywurst Imbiss stand in front of the Hbf. And the Hbf has loads of food options, too. Plus given its proximity to the Hbf, it’s insanely easy and convenient to get to anywhere in the city. The place is really huge though, so make sure you take note of which bus or line you need before getting there. Long-​distance trains are on the ground level (all U-​Bahn and S-​Bahn lines are on lower floors), so if you want to explore somewhere else or are coming in/​out of another city by train, it’s really convenient.
The beds are also pretty comfy, probably the most comfortable bed I slept in while in Europe.
All in all, this place is definitely worth the money (and it’s not even expensive, at that) and then some. If you’re staying in Munich and want to save cash by staying in a hostel, this is your place.

Price was right, staff was very friendly and helpful, clean and well run. Usual amount of late-​comers into group rooms, but not excessive. Liked bar, free drink per stay, good 4 euro breakfast including espresso, no curfew, pleasant common areas. Great location near train station, subway, ethnic restaurants. Only one subway stop to main tourist area!

First hostel experience ever.
ARRIVAL
Got there after a long redeye flight and was greeted by a friendly receptionist who spoke English. Was told check in is latest at 2pm. They let me keep my stuff in the luggage room. The place itself seemed trendy and had computers, communal lounge areas and WiFi. I left and came back around 3pm.
ROOM
Took the elevator up to floor 3. I was in a dorm with 7 other beds. Mostly girls. Room was clean and sans-​AC but had 2 oscillating fans. Applied my fresh sheets (Hostel provided) to the bed and took a nap. A little stuffy but nothing unbearable, especially with the fan going. Room was spacious and had free lockers (quite large, maybe 1.5 ft width, 2.5 ft height, 1.5 ft depth?) — enough to stowe all my valuables without issue. There was a table with 2 benches in the middle of the room. Free WiFi (must get password from receipt) worked quite well in the room and in hostel building.
BATHROOMS
There’s a communal floor bathroom one for men one for women. The room had its own bathroom which included a sink, toilet, and shower. It was clean. My only issue was that my washcloth kept getting moved around and I found it on the floor one day. Water was hot and good.
SLEEPYTIME
I was usually the one getting in late and waking up late. Everyone was asleep in my room by like 1am and it was quiet and dark. Aside from my own personal sleeping issues, I think the conditions for sleep here are sufficient.
LUGGAGE ROOM
This is the main reason for dropping a star. The luggage room became so packed with luggage that you could barely open the door. When it came time to check out, I stored my luggage at about 10am. When I came back at 2:30, I almost missed my train because I didn’t realize how stuffed it would get and I had to dig my bag out of a hundred other heavy bags. Plus both pieces were moved from the location I put them. That’s the main issue I had with this place. Though its nice they let you store your stuff before check in and after check out.
OTHER AMENITIES
I didn’t use the bar but they give you a free drink voucher at check in. The bar looked fun and people were freely socializing. There was breakfast buffet for 3.90 € which I also didn’t use unfortunately.
LOCATION
Its literally across the street from München Hauptbahnhof. So you’re able to get anywhere. The area itself is kind of crappy but so are most grand central stations. There’s a huge biergarten within walking distance and every shop you could need right near you. But I entreat you to get out from there ;)
OVERALL
Was pretty good for a first hostel experience and it exceeded my expectations. Price was about $ 65 for two nights. Was not noisy and was fairly clean. Staff friendly and helpful and great location. I’d use them again.

We loved this place! It was clean, spacious, and really nicely staffed. You get a free drink ticket upon arrival and the bar is hopping at nights. One euro beers from 6 – 8 is a steal!

Great place to stay in Munich! Good staff, bedding provided and breakfast for 4 euro. Nice and fun. 4 minute walk to munich HBF. Definitely recommend it.

This hostel is amazing! So close to the central train station. The front desk staff are friendly (albeit some of the girls were a little dense). The beds are comfy, everything is clean. The facilities are secure! There is a bar which is AMAZING. The common area is awesome. The wifi works pretty well. My only complaint would be their inability or unwillingness to help with booking issues, etc. Me and others staying had issues booking through hostel world and as opposed to fixing them in a convenient manner we were stuck from 10 am to 2 pm waiting for our next room. Kind of a pain in the ass.
Other than that, this hostel is great.

I have stayed at many hostels, and this was my least favorite. PAINFULLY SLOW INTERNET. No where to really hang and meet people… One bathroom for 6 gals=long line.

This place is utterly fantastic & much preferred over the Euro Youth two doors down.
Got a private double here, it was on the top floor and each came with their private bathroom and Rockstar personal roof deck — get it Wombats.
Solid bar, good people staying there — the bollards table & hammocks put it over the top.

Awesome hostel! I’ve stayed at 2 Wombats hostels and while both were great, this one is my favorite.
I booked a 8-​bed dorm and the size of the room was huge! Super spacious with lots of natural light. Definitely didn’t feel like I was staying with 7 other people. Each bed had a side table bolted to the wall with a light and wall socket (having your own personal wall socket is the GREATEST thing in the world). There were also 8 lockers that opened with your room keycard — very high tech and much appreciated.
AYCE breakfast buffet was awesome and a steal at € 3.50 (don’t quote me on that). You get a good selection with bread/​rolls, nutella (cute single serving packages), yogurt, fruit, granola, eggs, ham, salami, juice, coffee, tea, etc. I actually looked forward to it every day!
No wifi in the rooms but there is a «WiFi garden» that is pretty cool. Basically an enclosed courtyard with sofas, chairs, benches. It does get crowded at night after everyone comes back from sightseeing and the WiFi gets so. damn. slow. but no worries, it makes it super easy to meet people. Then it’s time to head to the Wombar to get your free 1^st drink (a tiny beer or some watered-​down wine but hey, it’s free)! The Wombar is pretty chill, there’s a pool table if you’re into that.
Location wise, it’s right across the street from the hauptbahnhof and only 2 U-​bahn stops from Marienplatz so super convenient. It’s on hostel row next to Jaeger’s and Euro Youth so lots of fellow travelers to meet and Euro Youth’s bar is open later. ;)
Other: Staff is friendly/​helpful. There’s laundry for € 5.00 per load on the 2^nd floor. Computers in the lobby (I believe its 50 cents for 30 minutes).
Really an great hostel, I had an awesome experience. Munchen, ich vermisse dich!

Das kultigste und bestgeführteste Hostel in dem ich je übernachten durfte. Nettes Publikum.
Achtung Selbstversorger: Keine Gäste-​Küche! (Haben wohl diverse Brandschutzvorgaben verhindert)

This hostel is outta control. In a good, controlled way. Too many perks.
Price: Reasonable. Book in advance to get a private room, and possibly ask to be away from the main street if in a dorm or otherwise.
Location: Prime! Walking distance to everything you would want to see or do, including nightlife.
Wifi: Yes, and a nice loungy area to chill, complete with hammocks
Bar: Full Bar! with plenty of seating room, daily specials, and themed nights. Stay away on Karaōke night… trust.
Age + Diversity: For sure! I was the only Mexican there. But other than that pretty diverse in age and ethnicity. Though clearly, this is where the young 20-​somethings form groups and do things. My friend and I felt weird in the bar at night…
Room size and amenities: The dorm room was the biggest room I’ve ever stayed in. Large table in the middle. Plenty of places to hang things and store items. There are storage lockers to place valuables at no extra fee. They have their own locks. Our roommates bought these jelly locks (they look like bike locks) and secured their luggage to the bunk-​bed ladders. I thought it was a good idea. Towels, sheets, blankets, pillows, and pillow cases are provided free of charge.
Cons: The touristy area nearby is under major construction, not Wombats fault. Bathroom did not have a window and Korean room mates put soiled toilet paper in the trash can. You can only imagine…
I would definitely return or stay in another one of their hostels! Great experience.

The Wombat hostel can easily be crowned the King of hostels! I had an amazing experience here. I lost my hostel virginity (meaning I had never previously stayed at a hostel), and what an Amazing first time.
Far from the preconceived notion of hostels being dirty, unsafe and slutty, the Wombat in Munich was the opposite, well maybe a bit promiscuous but not overtly.
The hostel is easy walking distance from the train station. The main lobby is very welcoming and resourceful. Myself and my 2 travelistas stayed in a larger room (6 – 8) and spent practically nothing ($ 12 per night?). Our stranger roommates were all very polite and respectful. One of our roommates bought us Belgium chocolates as a parting gift. Our room had lockers in it, so during the day we locked up our valuables and left our suitcases with clothes under the bunks. We did not have any problems with theft. The bathroom in our room was clean and had hot water. There was also an additional mirror to get ready in front of out in the other part of our room, so if the bathroom was occupied we could still get ready for the day.
We took the advice of the staff and took a tour which started from the Wombat lobby, to Dachau. The tour guide was really good, full of facts, and kept it serious but not overly depressing for such a tour. He was quite knowledgeable.
Be sure not too miss the breakfast buffet. It was less than $ 5 and had all the essentials — yogurt, fruit, bread, juice, coffee, nutella, granola, hard boiled eggs. We took full advantage and packed snacks for later, how could we resist handfuls of baby nutellas :)
At night, the hostel bar is fun and quite lively. A great place to meet fellow travelers from across the world. We spent St. Patrick’s Day here and met a few Irish fellas who purchased large amounts of green beer and sang Irish carols.
Truly a wonderful experience and on a budget.

If you’re coming to Munich solo, this is a GREAT place to meet people! I was traveling with three friends when I stayed here; however, even then — we met some of the most fun people you’ll probably ever meet while traveling here.
Great common areas, which, you’d be surprised, a lot of hostels lack.
This place is fairly centrally located, so it’s easy to pop in and out if you need to.
Pretty clean and tidy, which is a plus. :)
Definitely a good time to be had here!

Preiswertes Hostel mit ordentlichen Zimmern und freundlichem Personal. Super Lage mit guter Verkehrsanbindung.

Wohoo, im Wombats geht die Party ab. Ich muss schon sagen: ich war selten in einem Hostel in dem man so viel Spaß haben kann. In der hauseigenen Bar kann man gut Leute kennenlernen. Wie es halt in Hostels so ist kommt man schnell ins Gespräch.
Ich habe auch bei einer kleinen, kostenlosen Stadttour mitgemacht. Sehr lustig und informativ. Die Mehrbettzimmer sind okay und die Preise verhältnismäßig. Dafür kann man im Wintergarten extrem gut chillen und nebenbei das kostenlose WLan nutzen. Internet ohne Notebook gibt’s auch an einem der PCs die zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Für ein lecker Frühstücksbuffet à la Student ist auch gesorgt.
Das Personal im Wombats ist auch sehr freundlich. Keine Frage die ich gestellt hatte blieb unbeantwortet. Als mal mein WLan nicht funktionierte hat sich auch gleich jemand von der Rezeption meiner angenommen.

Mitten in der City, quasi nur einmal aus dem Hbf rausfallen…
Die ganzen Hostelmütter und –väter sind super nett und hilfsbereit, das Hostel ist total sauber und zweckmäßig. Dass die Schnapsleichen alle unten rumlaufen, daurauf wird geachtet.
Frühstück hatten wir da nicht, aber sah solide aus.
Besonders cool ist der chillige Innenhof! Und das Willkommensgetränk (ich empfehle Radler!).
Und sonst? Wir haben über ein Wochenende bloß 35 EUR pro Nase im Doppelzimmer bezahlt! Das bei der Lage und der Qualität ist echt günstig!

Hier war es toll!
Nette Leute, faire Preise, super Service und 1a– Lage.
Besonders toll fand ich das Frühstücksangebot: All you can eat für: 3,70EUR!
Das Wombats in München ist absolut empfehlenswert!!!

Sehr nette Leute an der Rezeption, gleich Empfehlungen bekommen was man anschauen könnte. Man bekommt einen Stadtplan mit eingezeichneten Bars, Restaurents, Sightseeing usw. Gutschein für ein Getränk in der Hausbar.
2 Bett Zimmer für 29 Euro pro person etwas teuer, aber Lage rechtfertigt das auf jeden fall.
Die Rezeption ist 24h besetzt, man kann seinen Schlüssel bedenkenlos abgeben.
Die Hausbar würd ich nur für die Aufwärmrunde empfehlen.
Kritikpunkt: das Bad hätte sauberer sein könne, und auf der Terasse lag Müll vom Vorgänger.
Trotzdem kann ich es für einen Kurzaufenthalt in München nur empfehlen, mit U-​Bahn kommt man fast überall gut hin.
Liegt gleich am Bahnhof.

Kann mich hostelBookers Beschreibung nur anschließen. Sehr freundlich, saubere und zweckmäßige Zimmer. Überrascht haben mich die eigene Dusche und WC im Zimmer. 24h offen, man kann also getrost den Schlüssel an der Rezeption abgeben. Gegen die Vorlage einer Gästekarte erhält man den Schlüssel wieder zurück.
Für eine Übernachtung im Mehrbettzimmer (6 Personen, Hochbetten) habe ich 17EUR bezahlt (Februar 2008). Frühstück ist nicht inklusive, war zu diesem Zeitpunkt wegen Renovierungsarbeiten auch nicht über Zuschlag zu erhalten. Die Bar war deswegen auch geschlossen. Der Lounge-​Bereich — auf der Website sehr gemütlich mit Sitzsäcken gezeigt — wurde anscheinend vorübergehend zu einer improvisierten Bar umfunktioniert. Tat der Atmosphäre aber keinen Abbruch. Mit den gut gelaunten überwiegend internationalen jugendlichen Gästen konnte man schnell ins Gespräch kommen und ein paar Bier zusammen trinken. Gegen halb zwei wurde die Bar zwar geschlossen, aber es wurde noch ein Ausflug ins Babalou /​ (Reggae Club) angeboten. Die Guides packten uns in zwei Taxis und führen uns zu dem Club.
Die Lage ist extrem gut, wenn man mit dem Zug ankommt und richtung Ausgang läuft, den rechten Seitenausgang des Bahnhofs nehmen und man ist in 2 Minuten da.
Reservieren sollte man am Besten über das Internet per Kreditkarte. Alternativ ist auch eine Buchung per E-​Mail möglich, dann muss man allerdings bis 16:00 angereist sein, da sonst das Bett wieder freigegeben wird.
Es gibt auch 2-​Bett Zimmer.
Würde ich wieder machen.
