Wirtshaus in der Au

Sehr schönes authentisches Ambiente, allerdings recht laut, was aber in einem solchen Wirtshaus dazu gehört, somit nicht unangenehm.
Das Knödel Trio ist sehr sehr lecker, auch die anderen Speisen weißen zu überzeugen.
Der Hammer aber war das Dessert von allem etwas, welches schon beim reintragen regelrecht zelebriert wird. Unglaublich lecker und unglaublich viel.

Eine Einladung der Projektleitung hat uns hierhin verschlagen. Nicht dass das geschmacklich was ändern würde, aber man ist manchmal experimentierfreudiger. Daher auch meine Mischung aus Haxe und Ente, mit Semmelknödel und Kloß Burschenreindl genannt (siehe Fotos anderer Unilocaler). Ziemlich reichlich, und wirklich der Hammer, was den Geschmack angeht. Bier seitig bin ich beim dunklen Weisbier und dem normalen Hellen geblieben. Bedienung fix und höflich, nur positives hier. Fußball lief, aber das kann +/​-​sein, je nach Vorliebe. Jedenfalls ein lustiger und gemütlicher Abend.

Wir hatten Glück und noch am Samstag gegen 16:00 Uhr Platz bekommen.
Ambiente in Ordnung typisch für diese Region für mich wirkt alles ein wenig überladen.
Essen ist top. Portionen sind riesig!
Der Kellner ging auf unsere Sonderwünsche ein obwohl die Bestellung schon raus war. Finde super.

Ein großartige Wirtshaus. Das Ambiente ist toll, der Service schnell und freundlich. Es gibt bayerische Spezialitäten. Probiert unbedingt die Knödel! Dazu ein halbes Helles trinken und den Abend entspannt angehen!
Für Kinder gibt es auch eine echt gute Kinderkarte mit leckeren Gerichten und Buntstiften. Kinderfreundlichkeit also auch 5 Sterne.

Tolles Essen, schöné Lage aber etwas unausgewogenes Preis-​Leistungs-​Verhältnis. Wir bestellten zum Abendessen eine Tomatensuppe mit Fleischknödel und einen großen Salat. Der Salat war sehr gut angerichtet und lecker aber preislich war es schon etwas happig. Die Tomatensuppe ebenfalls sehr schön angerichtet und auch wirklich ein Genuss aber auch etwas wenig von der Menge. Wer Satt werden will, muss hier zu den größeren Speisen greifen. Das Hauseigene Kraft-​Bier sollte man probiert haben, es ist zumindest wesentlich spannender als das sonst angebotene Paulaner.

Ich war nun schon zweimal dort. Vom Essen her 5 Sterne, vom Bier sowieso, das Ambiente ist leider nicht so urig, wie ich es mir erhofft hatte, deshalb «nur» vier (sehr gute) Sterne.

Nice place to go for the service and to try something local with a pretty good atmosphere, although the food is not that tasty.

Sollten Sie keine Geschmacksnerven besitzen, und auf Kinderscharen abfahren dann sind Sie hier richtig. Einmal und nie wieder. Tragt Eure Ehefrau auf Händen, wenn Sie kochen kann.

I’m not an expert in Bavarian food but this is just plain good food!
While on a business trip to Munich, I came here twice because I wanted to try both the pork knuckle and the duck. Both dishes were deliciously juicy with healthy portion sizes. If I had to choose one of the dishes, I would pick the duck again as its not easy to find a juicy duck with a crispy skin.

Superleckeres Essen, grandiose Kartoffelknödel, sehr schönes und gemütliches Ambiente. Ich bereue es nur, nicht den Schweinsbraten gewählt zu haben, der sah soooo lecker aus und wurde von fast jedem zweiten bestellt. Beim nächsten München-​Besuch geht es definitiv in dieses Lokal!!!

A Bavarian restaurant visited by many tourists as well as by locals. This place can get quite packed on weekends, so it is best to reserve beforehand. However, we were often lucky and were able to find a place to sit, usually at the bigger communal table sharing the space with others. Service is friendly and quite fast.
Food-​wise, it gets my stamp of approval. I’m a «Knödelfan» (Knödel = boiled dumplings), so I was delighted to try their Knödeltrio, which all 3 dumplings were different from the usual Semmelknödel (bread-​based) or Kartoffelknödel (potato-​based) yet delectable. We also tried their special «Hofente» (Bavarian duck), which is nicely cooked. The salads are fresh but sometimes doused in salad dressings. For those dessert-​lovers who like chocolate and/​or crunchy texture, I can highly recommend their Schokoladenbatz (Homemade chocolate mousse served in an almond waffle and vanilla pears).
Unfortunately, good things in Munich often come with a high price, so be prepared to splurge a bit.

Ich kenne dieses Lokal schon lange, war aber die letzten zwei Jahre eher seltener hier, meist nur auf ein gepflegtes Bierchen im Biergarten.
Vor einer Woche war ich im Rahmen einer Weihnachtsfeier hier und wir hatten alle ein Menü.
Maronisuppe, danach Ente (die Vegetarier bekamen dreierlei Knödel) und als Nachtisch Apfelschmarren (Kaiserschmarren mit Äpfel).
Das Lokal war insgesamt sehr sehr voll, sehr heiß (fast unangenehm) und vor allem sehr laut.
Man konnte sich praktisch nicht unterhalten, ja nicht mal seinen Sitznachbarn verstand man.
Das Essen war gut, jedoch nichts besonderes.
Die dreierlei Knödel schmeckten recht langweilig.
Der Nachtisch wurde auf einen Teller für alle gebracht, den Apfel. bzw. dem Apfelgeschmack müsste man erahnen.
Die Preise liegen im absolut gehobenen Niveau, der Preis der Weine im ganz oberen Segment…
Das Wirtshaus in der Au hat leider sehr stark nachgelassen, die Preise stehen in keiner Relation zu dem Gebotenen.
Der Service ist ganz Ok, wenngleich man auch hier unentwegt auf ein neu zu bestellendes Getränk aufmerksam gemacht wird.
Hier wird wohl versucht schnell Geld zu verdienen und der Tourist merkt es vielleicht nicht.
Ein bisserl wie am Oktoberfest, aber dort spielt dann auch eine Musk und es ist wenigstens laut und lustig.
Laut war es, lustig nicht unbedingt.
Hier hat das Oktoberfest eindeutig die Nase vorne…
Schade, schade!
Bleibt nur zu Hoffen, dass es bald wieder bergauf geht mit diesem Laden. Preis– Leistung sollte zumindest stimmen und die hohe Ausfallszahlung für jeden nicht erschienen Gast ist auch sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig.
Für uns ist klar: die nächste Weihnachtsfeier wird hier nicht mehr statt finden.

Nachdem wir vergessen hatten für unseren Besuch zu reservieren, begann die Recherché nach einem guten Wirtshaus in/​um Giesing, indem noch ein Plätzchen für 4 frei war. Nach einigen Telefonaten Erfolg im Wirtshaus in der Au!
Als wir nach 10 Minuten ankamen, verriet uns der nette Herr am Empfang, dass ein Platz für Vier unmöglich sei.
Erst nach einigen Wortwechsel durften wir bleiben.
Danach war der Abend geprägt von sehr gutem Essen!
Ein paar wenige Gerichte waren nicht so unser Geschmack, aber handwerklich absolut top!
Preislich war es allerdings ordentlich oberhalb des Durchschnitts.

Was recommended this place by a local we met on the train and we loved it.
We came here famished after a day of Oktoberfest celebrations and weren’t disappointed at all. We spotted a platter towards the end of the mains section of the menu that offers pork, pork knuckle, roast duck, and wurst. Sides included knudel and we also ordered dumplings for good measure.
Everything was amazing, and I really don’t say that often. Standouts were the roast duck and pork (both knuckle and regular). I also really liked the knudel and dumplings. Seriously, everything was good.
While we were eating we noticed the waiters making a big deal of bringing out a dessert platter with sparklers — this is the everything platter for dessert, which includes one of each type of dessert. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for any dessert at all, let alone one of each.
We came back here on a subsequent day and tried other things on the menu that were similarly awesome.
Highly, highly recommended.

What a gem! We had great service, excellent food and the atmosphere was cozy and fun at the same time. Definitely good for a date, group, or family. We took our 2 year-​old daughter with us, and they had coloring stuff and a kids menu for her (not super normal for Germany). It was a great experience.

A very good restaurant with nice atmosphere. If weather is nice make reservations for outside!

Leider stimmen mittlerweile Preis-​Leistung hier nicht mehr. Früher unser liebstes bayerisches Lokal in München, werden wir künftig dort leider nicht mehr essen. Wurstsalat für knapp 10 Euro, das Knödel-​Trio für knapp 15 Euro… da erwartet man sich große Portionen, die toll schmecken. Leider ist beides nicht mehr wirklich der Fall. Wir hatten alle noch Hunger «nach» dem Essen und es hat uns geschmacklich nicht wirklich überzeugt. Mein Spinatknödel schmeckte so wie bei uns in der Kantine, der Spanferkelsalat meiner Begleitung war relativ ungewürzt und mit einem Salat hatte der Berg Frühlingszwiebel leider auch wenig zu tun. Soviel wie die Speisen kosten, erwartet man sich — zu Recht — mehr. Da die Location sehr schön ist und der Service absolut top war, gerade noch 3 Sterne von mir. Aber keine Empfehlung für hungrige Mäuler.

OMG das essen ist so viel schlechter geworden! Das berühmte Knödeltrio war fast ungenießbar, das Fleisch (dass meine Freunde bestellt haben) war trocken. Mein Gröstl bestand fast ausschließlich aus Bratkartoffeln. Und das ganze für ziemlich höhe Preise.
Ich hasse es einfach wann ein sehr gut besuchtes Restaurant absichtlich die Qualität vernachlässigt um noch mehr Umsatz zu machen. Gestern war mein letzes mal im Wirtshaus. In der Stadt gibt’s bayrische Restaurants wo man VIEL besser essen kann für den halben Preis

Wir waren an einem Sonntag zum ersten Mal hier und sind begeistert!
Sehr herzliche Begrüssung vom Chef und dann auch noch vom Kellner, der uns direkt seinen Namen sagte und gut drauf war.
Das Frühstück war ein Gedicht!
Und als dann unsere Kleine auch noch leider von einem der hohen Sitze flog kam der Kellner mit einem Eisbeutel und einem Miniapfel als «Medizin».
Die Parksituation ist davon abhängig ob Dult ist oder nicht.
Die Räumlichkeiten sind spitze, die Toiletten ebenfalls clean (und diese Lob will bei mir etwas heissen!).

Rein optisch und von der Lage er ist das Wirtshaus in der Au ein absoluter Traum. Die Speisekarte verpspricht dann auch ein tolles Wirtshaus Erlebnis. Was einem dann serviert ist leider untere Mittelklasse von Geschmack und Qualität und das bei Preisen die im oberen Mittelfeld sind. 4 enttäuschte Gäste an einem Tisch! Unverständlich, dass es trotzdem immer voll ist.

Great food and great service, it started to rain and our server immediately brought us inside and took care of us. The place was busy but the staff seemed to keep up just fine.

Rappelvoll, aber nach einer Viertelstunde an der Bar hat der sehr schnelle und aufmerksame Service einen Tisch für uns gefunden.
Was sofort auffällt, sind die extrem schlecht gezapften Biere: Vier bis 5 cm unter Eichstrich scheinen an diesem Abend Standard zu sein. Das geht gar nicht und ändert sich auch nach einem Hinweis an den Service nur geringfügig.
Wir wählen den «Bauernschmaus» mit diversen Fleischsorten, Blau– und Sauerkraut. Lecker, deftig, gut dimensioniert, aber auch entsprechend eingepreist.
Fazit: Für die gebotene Qualität zu teuer.

Das Wirtshaus in der Au ist wildromantisch gelegen an einem kleinen Platz mit Brunnen. Man kann draußen sehr schön unter Bäumen an der Straße sitzen, die jedoch recht verkehrsberuhigt ist.
Drinnen ist es meist da schon geschäftiger.
Die Bedienung empfing uns mit einem freundlichen «Hallo» und war auch sonst sehr aufmerksam und schnell zur Stelle. Die Arbeitsatmosphäre untereinander schien sehr freundschaftlich zu sein.
Das Essen (ich hatte einen Schweinsbraten) war gut und reichlich, die Preise jedoch eher gehoben, schade.

Used Unilocal to help find somewhere for my first night in Munich. Was seated on the outside patio and stayed only there — so I can’t comment on the inside or the atmosphere.
It was quiet and steadily got busier and busier on thine Friday early evening. It was clear to see this was a neighborhood and city favorite.
Our server (and the rest) were in festive German attire and gave me a seat right in front of the fountain.
The menu was in German and like other Unilocalers suggested I asked for an English menu. «No English. Sorry.» Was pretty irritated by that not because I literally had no idea what I was reading and asking him to translate items only made it worse.
So I ended up ordering a Bavarian platter with my friend and it was huge:
Duck
Pork knuckle (I think)
Rice dumpling
Potato dumpling
Red cabbage
Sauerkraut
Sausage
and some other stuff.
Along with the beers– this made for a fine meal and an enjoyable experience.
Would return.

Naja also der Kellner war verpeilt. Die Auswahl an Gerichten sehr gering. Die Portionen sättigen keinesfalls, habe den Schnitzel bestellt und habe zwei Stück bekommen aber einer davon war stellenweise durchsichtig. Ganz zu schweigen von dem «halber Pfund Beilagensalat» der zwar 4.50 € kostet aber nicht mal zwei ganze grüné Blätter Salat enthält und offensichtlich schon seit Stunden mit Dressing in der Hitze stand. Für zwei Personen, OHNE Vorspeisen, nur jeweils ein Getränk, ohne satt werden 45 € gezahlt. Erneuter Besuch ist ausgeschlossen.

This place can get a bit pricey, but I think it is consistent and very good. It has one of the most amazing Brotzeit platters I’ve ever had with fresh cheeses, spreads, meats, veggies, and bread. Truly awesome! The waitstaff speaks good English and are pretty attentive (for German standards). The décor and ambiance is very nice.

Leider kann ich mich nicht den Vorbewertern anschließen was die Portions-​Größe betrifft. Hier stimmt das Preis /​Leistungsverhältnis einfach nicht überein. Das sagenumwobene Knödeltrio kostet 15 € — jetzt lassen wir mal die Kirche im Dorf… Ja es ist lecker — nicht mehr nicht weniger — aber in keinem Sinne das Geld wert. Die Knödel haben eine reguläre Größe im Knödeltrio — keine abnormalen Ausmaße. Der Apfelschmarrn zum auffüllen des Loch im Magen macht es auch nicht besser — 9 € — Bier 4.20 €
Alles in allem — OK aber den Preis einfach nicht wert. Dafür der Service sensationell gut. Sehr aufmerksam und unaufdringlich — dem Service hat das Wirtshaus in der Au den 3. Stern zu verdanken…
Letzten Endes haben wir für 4 Personen 110 € liegen lassen… Die 4. Person war ein Kind mit 9 Jahren — selbst der kleine war hungrig nach dem Hauptgang so dass er noch nen Knödel bestellt hat.

Ich war hier schon so oft, egal, ob Frühstück oder tagsüber /​Abend was essen, jedoch hab ich den Laden noch nie so unzufrieden wie jetzt verlassen.
Klar, der Laden war, wie immer voll bzw. trafen die ersten Reservierungen ein. Aber das ist normal und ein Plätzchen für uns zwei waren vom Kellner schnell gefunden.
Wir hatten Hunger, also viel die Wahl auf das Schnitzel vom Schwäbisch-​Hallischen Schwein mit einer Meerettich-​Senfpanade und Bratkartoffeln und den Wasabi-​Knödel auf süß-​saurem Mangoldsalat.
Alles kam und wir legten los. Leider waren die Bratkartoffeln zu 50% roh und hatten die Pfanne nicht gesehen. Die Panade des Schnitzel war eine ganz normale. Senf und Meerettich hätte man def. merken müssen, leider nein.
Der Knödel war geschmacklich in Ordnung, nur leider ist aus dem versprochenen Mangold ein Asiatisches Null-8−15 Tiefkühlgemüse geworden.
Obendrauf waren beide Gerichte ungewürzt und pfad. Ich hoffe, das die Küche nur nen schlechten Tag hatte und unser nächster Besuch wieder erfreulicher ist.
Der Service war top, nett und freundlich, aber er hat unsere Enttäuschung gemerkt.

Located close to Museum Island this beer house serves traditional Bavarian food and beer. One thing for sure you won’t leave hungry the service is pretty good and the turnaround quite fast. Very busy so tables for between 60 and 90 minutes.

Took a bus from Marienplatz /​Glockenspiel to here.
This place is another beer hall /​restaurant situated near Museum Island. It wasn’t that busy when we got there but they were pretty much booked up. They fit us in for 90 minutes — plenty of time!
We couldn’t choose what to have for dinner so the waiter suggested a Bavarian platter to try a bit of everything. OMG this thing was huge and a meat lover’s dream!
Food included duck, pork, sausage, fried pork, potato dumplings, bread dumplings, sauerkraut and red cabbage.
There wasn’t much left by the time we were done (maybe half a potato dumpling!) but left room for dessert. I chose strawberry & pistachio sweet dumplings and they had apple pancakes. Utterly stodgy and bloody delicious.

Tolles Interieur, sehr urig und traditionell. Auch der «Biergarten» ist bei schönem Wetter empfehlenswert. Sehr freundliche Bedienung.

Wir waren gestern mit 4 Personen im Wirtshaus. Ich war schon 3 mal vorher dort und errinere mich immer gern an den Besuch zurück. Ich musste meine Reservierung kurzfristig um 30 Minuten verschieben (kein Problem).
Die Speisekarte ist nicht zu groß und gut geschrieben. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Alles frisch und selbstgemacht. Das Knödeltrio war ein Gedicht. Die Nachtischbombe für 14 € waren sogar für 4 Personen zu viel. Wer in einem urischem Lokal leckere Bayrische Küche genießen will ist hier genau Richtig. Gerne wieder.
Am Ende waren wir über 3 Stunden da und die Zeit verging wie im Flug.

Auf unserer Fahradtour haben wir einen bayerischen Pitstop im Wirtshaus in der Au eingelegt. Passend zum gestrigen Traumwetter und blauem Himmel, gab es erst mal zwei wundervolle Helle von Paulaner. Die freundliche und flotte Bedienung im Dirndl brachte es uns auf die Terrase, auf der wie eine wundervollen Platz ergattert hatten. So jetzt fass ich mich kurz ;) Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffel = spitze! /​/​Schweinsbraten mit unglaublich gute Kartoffelknödeln = award-​verdächtig ! /​/​gemischter Salat mit JoghurtDressing = kann ich nur empfehlen.

Fazit: Aus unserem Zwischenstopp in der Au wurde ein ausgedehntes Mittagessen. Freuen uns schon aufs nächste Mal.

Wer hinten DEUTSCHES RESTAURANT einen Touri-​Knödel-​Haxen-​Bunker erwartet, wird «enttäuscht» sein. Schon die Begrüßung des Services und die Freundlichkeit, lässt sofort den Unterschied zu den ansonsten weit verbreiteten DU BIST EH NUR EINMAL IN DEINEM LEBEN IN DEUTSCHLAND UND BRAUCHST KEINEN GUTEN SERVICE LOKALEN erkennen. Bestellt habe ich mir das Knödel-​Trio und muss sagen, dass war das beste, was ich bisher in einem Wirtshaus in München gegessen habe. Da wird selbst der Krustenbratenfan schwach.
Also, ich komme wieder. Toller Laden!

Food was great. Nice atmosphere. Perfect service.

Super freundlich empfangen worden und hatten direkt einen Sitzplatz bekommen. Zum Hauptgang gabs Mini-​Leberkäs mit Kartoffel-​Radieserl-​Salat und Salat mit Ziegenkäse und Lauchzwiebel-​Brot. Zum Nachtisch hatten wir den Schokobatzen und den Apfel-​Schmarrn. Das Essen sowie der Service waren absolut phantastisch!!!
Einen Stern Abzug gibts wegen des doch hohen Lärmpegels und den etwas überzogenen Preisen — Mia San eben Mia

I was there with a group of about 16 for a birthday party. They allowed us to decorate the table and have balloons and a few sparklers for the arrival of the Birthday Boy. There was a special menu for the group and the food was delicious and plentiful. The service was excellent, friendly and they participated in our boisterous celebrations. Overall, very accommodating, great atmosphere and service, and super food. Would love to go back and try more dishes.

I was sold when I saw a patio full of people.
I was sad that it was a little too chilly to eat out on said patio.
But, check this.
They serve standard Bavarian food with a few twists and turns here and there, just in case you have indulged in way too many heavy foods. The SO went with the Auer Brotzeitbrett’l (aka MEAT PLATE), the other went for the knodel trio (dumplings) and I, being boring and wanting to steer clear of more meat and bread, went with the ravioli in brown butter sauce. Everything dish was pretty and substantially large, except mine, but that was because the waitress put in the half order instead of the full. She must have been wanting me to watch my trim figure. Or because she misunderstood me when I was making desperate attempts to sprechen ze Deutsch. Who knows! I was satisfied in the end and wanted some room for another pretzel or two later in the day.
Thankfully, for our group, they had an English menu, but after a few days hanging and dining among the locals and establishments in Munich we were able to recognize a good portion of the contents of the menu.
Worth the trip, patio seating or not :)

Die Tölzer Gröstl sind der Hammer! Alles Knödelgerichte sowieso. Die Karte ist umfangreich. Einziger Wehrmutstropfen, es ist meist recht voll und laut am Abend. Besser immer reservieren.

Now that I have eaten in the restaurant I believe it is time to update my review. The only reason I have given it 3 stars and not 4 is because of the service today. It was slow, almost non existent and the orders came out one by one and, I think the waitress forgot my order so by the time my meal came out the others were almost finished. Ok, it was a really busy day but I have never experienced this anywhere else in Munich even on such busy days.
Food here is first class and, that deserves 4 stars. The meat was cooked to perfection, the gravy was very flavourful and delicious and, the knodle was exceptionally good. The meal I chose was on the daily specials board and, I wish, the waitress had told me how big it was :-(I ended up wasting food which, I dislike doing and, could have shared it with someone else.
Let’s hope this lapse in service is temporary and that the next time I go there it won’t be such a bad experience. It took the waitress about 20 mins to get our order and it arrived one after another.

Based on other reviews, I had fairly high expectations of this place, but I was disappointed, and my review reflects the difference between my expectations and what was delivered. I also now realize that most of the other reviews seem to be written in English and hence probably by tourists, and that might account for the lack of critique.
The food was good but nothing spectacular, and I’d had definitely had better German and Bavarian food elsewhere. The ambiance was also nothing exceptional, more like a upscale yet larger public pub — no unique experience, or anything uniquely German. There was a large beer and drink menu, but otherwise the dinner menu was pretty limited.
For me, it wasn’t worth the trip out there from where I was staying, except for the fact that it’s near the river, and I had a beautiful stroll afterwards. And that I definitely do recommend! :)
As far as one reviewers funny complaint about the service, if you are a small party or there alone, go over and sit at the bar and you will be served in less than 5 minutes. Not a problem at all, and they were definitely friendly enough to me.

If you want to try Bavarian food then this is the place to be… Old style dumplings, duck breast and fish fillet were all good. Desert platter was huge but delicious.
This is not touristic place. It’s very traditional and if you are expecting refined food this this is not your spot. But if you want hardy meals with a punch then you are at the right place.

When you’re done singing «En Prosit» at Hofbrauhaus with 10,000 fellow tourists and want something more low key, make the trip to Wisthaus in der Au. It’s a great «less touristy» beer hall serving traditional food with a few updates in a trendy neighborhood just across the river. We were lucky to be staying close and really enjoyed our dinner here.
First, the place gets PACKED with locals so go early (before 7) or make a reservation. Apparently there are English menus but they won’t be delivered automatically as this is more of a locals place. We were fine with German menus and had very good service overall.
The food is definitely a cut above what is served at most beer halls. Hubs had schweinehaxe and I had one of the best schnitzels ever — there was a touch of mustard in the breaking which was delicious. Wirsthaus in der Au is well known for dumplings with several varieties on offer — so much better than the dense doughy balls one usually gets.
In warm weather, there are lots of tables outside to soak up the sun. Highly recommended!

First, the service at this restaurant is horrible. I can write that with confidence as my husband and I have been twice and both times we received absolutely terrible service. The breakdown in service begins as soon as you walk in the door. You will be greeted by NO ONE. You will stand in the entry way for about 5 minutes watching servers zip by you but no one will look you in the eye or greet you. After several minutes of waiting and observing the activity in the restaurant, you will make your way to the bar and ask the bartender how to go about getting a table. She/​he will then direct you to the restaurant manager who will then seat you.
Then you will wait approximately 20 minutes until a server comes to your table. So, my recommendation is to get a drink when you go to the bar to enquire about a table. At least you will then have something to drink while you wait for a server to approach your table.
English menus are available but they are not on the table — only German menus are on the table. If you need an English menu, you will need to ask your server and then be prepared to wait another 15 minutes for English menus to appear. My recommendation is to ask for English menus as soon as the person tasked with seating you begins to walk toward the tables in the restaurant.
You will then order and you will wait 45 minutes for your starter to be delivered to your table. You will gobble it down because you will be starving and then you will wait another 20 minutes for your server to clear your plates and send through the order for your mains to the kitchen. More waiting.
Oh, that bottle of water you ordered will never arrive because your server will have forgotten about it and you will need to remind him/​her when your mains arrive. You will be dehydrated at that point because the beer you ordered from the bar will have long been consumed and your bottle of water will never have appeared.
Your main will arrive and you will gobble it down as well and you will say, «That was delicious» and all of your anger toward the crappy service will disappear and then you will say, «I would eat here again.» and then you will eat here again and you will have another terrible experience with service.
Then you will order your dessert and it will never arrive. After waiting 45 minutes for it to arrive, you will decide to flag down your server by physically walking over to him/​her only to be told that [he] «forgot.» Forgot, once again.
Expect to spend 2 hours at this restaurant simply due to the poor service. The service is why my rating for this restaurant is not a 5.
Order the spinach dumplings in spicy tomato sauce and you will not be disappointed, well aside from the fact that it will take 1.5 hours to get the dumplings from the time you order.
As far as getting a table goes, you will not have an issue if you go at off-​peak times. We ate at 2pm on a Saturday and 630pm on a Sunday and were able to get a table. From that point on, the restaurant was fully booked with reservations. The second time we ate here, the manager brought us to our table and told us that we needed to be done by 9pm as the table was reserved at that time. I had to do everything in my power to keep from laughing because I knew if we were still sitting at the table 2.5 hours from that moment, it wouldn’t be our fault — it would be the fault of the server and a result of slow service.
Finally, be sure to check out the bathrooms and the lights in the restaurant. Both are uniquely designed and very cool.
