I do not recommend any person stay at this hotel. The reasons for this are as follows: 1. The hotel looks as if they charge an hourly rate. The room is literally a plain bed that takes up the entire room, a WC that includes a tiny, stand-up shower for a person with a BMI under 21, and a built in desk made of cheap, laminated plywood. No mini-bar, no extra pillows, and the shower gel is so bad you have to use one entire bottle for each shower. Let’s also not forget the mildew around the edges to the shower door. 2. The hotel states that there is no smoking, yet people hang out the windows smoking at 7AM. 3. The two female hotel receptionists are ruder and more condescending than any other hotel receptionists. Their attitudes and lack of hospitality is uncalled for. I expect a more welcoming and helpful staff. 4. As an avid bicyclist I have never encountered such discrimination while touring via bicycle. Not only did they not have ANY bicycle parking in front or in the rear of the building, but there was a lack of secure facilities in their«basement» appropriate for expensive race bikes, especially for a hotel that is located in a sketchy area like the hauptbahnhof. I was also denied bringing my bicycle to my room as the one receptionist physically barricaded the elevator with her body to prevent me from taking it upstairs. She said, «it’s the manager’s rules.» No exceptions. I’m not sure what they are afraid of. My bike is pristine and it’s not like the hotel was nice anyway. I have never had a problem before, but I guess now I will have to verify bicycle– friendly hotels first. It’s sad that times have come to this. However, dogs are OK. 5. The neighborhood near the München hauptbahnhof is filthy and unsafe. Transients litter the sidewalks, street punks hang out smoking, and Turkish men catcall women all day and night. As a single female I will tell you that the area near the bahnhof is not safe. Please do not consider Hotel Stachus as part of your visit to München. You get what you pay for.

I LOVE the location of this hotel. When you walk out you’re pretty much in the center. The main train station is a block away, and you’re right at a major subway station(Karlplatz) from where you can go anywhere! We arrived at the munich airport and took a cab to the hotel at a steep price of 65 euros. Here’s a tip: Take the subway for 10 euros. It’s about a 45min ride, but cab is only 20min less in duration. Right next to the hotel exit is my favorite coffee shop in the region — coffee fellows(they have really good iced tea). Everything is within close distance from the hotel. Marienplatz is a 10min walk. You can get everywhere else super quick and easy via the S bahn or U bahn. The rooms of the hotel were fair. It doesn’t compare to American standards in terms of size and the bathroom sink had no room for make up and such. Neither does the shower have any room to put personal items. Not a huge deal, but something I’m very used to. The price for the rooms are very affordable, especially when compared to other nearby hotels during August. But the location makes up for any flaws the room may have. During our trip we stayed in a total of 3 hotels in Munich, all very close to one another. Besides hotel stachus we also stayed at hotel ambiente and cocoon stachus. Out of the 3 the interior design of Cocoon Stachus is the coolest in terms of modernity, but Hotel Stachus has the best location. From the other two hotels you have to walk through side streets to get to the main area, whereas HOtel Stachus is right in the center. Especially if you are a girl and you’re traveling alone or with girl friends, the side streets may make you feel uncomfortable at night, because there’s usually a bunch of guys/men hangin out there and they stare everytime you walk by. Those side streets seem safe but there are some strip clubs & casinos there so … anyway, i recommend this hotel.
