Visiting Herzogenaurach´s Godfather Actually, one would think that a restaurant like this should be be found in Berlin, Taormina or New York. But it is not. The first impression upon entering the Osteria Ferrau! is probably the most inaccurate, which you may have. The porch with a table and bar tables in the bar area and the outlet of the kitchen is rather less beautiful. The bar tables are rather uncomfortable for our liking and the bar is from another time, when this was still an Irish pub. The first impression usually does not deceive. Here already, as it turns out later. The owner Giovanni Fredi comes to meet us with a smile and asks Frankish tinged«Buona Sera», how many people we were. Unfortunately the restaurant was full today and he could offer us only one of the bar tables in front of the kitchen area. Of necessity, we take one of the two tables, but see us beforehand to still further back guest room. The site is small and has 7 tables with 40 seats. Manageable. Rustic décor with light wooden tables and benches. Comfortable. On the way back to our bar table — right at the exit of the kitchen and access to the garden I inspect the toilets — not the most modern — but clean.(: Loo clean, Kitchen clean… you know…) I prefer to know where I am if I order something here so one can assume that the kitchen is maintained accordingly. Back at the table we ordered a round of drinks and wait for the Menu card. Giovanni Freni has us kindly pointed out that he had no Menu card and it offers daily changing dishes — the standards are on the table next to us and the ideas he has written on a large blackboard standing. We opt for the Anti-Pasti — which are delivered shortly afterwards — a selection of home-baked bread(wheat flour) and bruschetta(also self-baked), Sicilian Pecorino and finely slicedham, and grilled vegetables in olive oil. — Optical really appealing. Yummy. recommendation of the day is a pasta dish made also homemade thin ribbon pasta with a tomato and herb sauce with Sicilian Fennel«Bratwurst». We expected an unexpected — intense fennel and herb flavor, but not overly seasoned. Fennel is really not my thing — but here everything was fine. Giovanni Freni convinced us — at least me. Next time I will, however, my dessert — I could not find on a card — Get in the Italian ice cream shop on the opposite side of the street. We’ll be back! Categorization: 4 of 5 stars Value for money: main dishes from € 6.90, entrees from about € 5,00 Seats: 30 inside, 20 outside(courtyard) Specialization: Sicilian dishes, mainly pasta. Recommendation? YES!
