Soban

Das Soban ist sehr empfehlenswert~ die Bedienung ist zwar ein bisschen chaotisch und ziemlich ‘koreanisch’, also für den Deutschen vlt bisschen unfreundlich wirkend, aber das Essen dafür schmeckt äußerst lecker. Die Küche ist sehr authentisch und schmeckt wie in Korea.
Wir hatten als Vorspeise das (ddeok buki) und als Hauptspeise einmal und. Also einmal Bulgogi mit Gemüse auf Reis. Und das zweite sind Rippchen in Suppe. Dieses Fleisch ist sooo zart, dass man es von den Knochen lutschen kann ^^ total lecker~~
Ein Hauptgericht kostet so um die 10 € durchschnittlich, aber dafür macht es satt und ist köstlich.
Reservieren ist von Vorteil, denn es ist sehr voll dort.

A place that is full must be good, let me tell a story of going Korean for a meal, we did takeout, which could be very different to dining in. Arriving at the restaurant and all signs are good, walls well decorated with brick type look clean, busy and a good dining atmosphere, and service quick and attentive, we collected our takeout upon getting home we plated the five dishes we ordered and shared amongst our group, dishes where large and plenty to go around so a big plus on dish size, however dishes where not refined or organized like a Korean dish they lacked the finesse that’s common in Korean restaurants, rice was over cooked and noodles slippery/​slimy from cooking too long. Dumplings where good and well seasoned and the beef sushi roll was ok. Dishes overall had flavor but a flavor that could be achieved at home easily with few ingredients. Dishes though said had beef and pork with them seemed to be non existent. Overall impression of the care taken with the food is low and I probably would not return for a dine in experience based on the quality given for a take out.

Ich habe ein Semester in Korea studiert und dort jeden Tag koreanisch gegessen.
Im Soban riecht es schon wie in einem koreanischen Restaurant, wenn man nur reinkommt. Die Gerichte sind super authentisch. Die meisten Gäste sind auch immer Koreaner und die werden es ja wissen.
Unbedingt (!!!) reservieren.

Wir hatten nicht vorher reserviert und bekamen glücklicherweise trotzdem noch zu dritt einen Tisch. Das nächste Mal sparen wir uns den Nervenkitzel und reservieren, denn das Lokal ist einfach sehr gut besucht. Viele Asiaten, was man als Deutscher natürlich als Positives Signal für die Authentizität der Küche verbucht. Das Essen war extrem lecker und der Service angemessen aufmerksam — vor allem wenn man beachtet, wie viel los ist. Das Ambiente Ist sehr minimalistisch und vielleicht nicht für einen romantischen Abend geeignet, aber für eine Treffen mit Freunden wie in unserem Fall ist das ok. Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen und wir werden auf jeden Fall wieder kommen.

My daughter and son-​in-​law love this place and would give it five stars! Everything is spicy so make sure to ask for mild if you can’t handle it! Their ribs are yummy and I’ve had their vegetable dumplings. Inside is small but you can take-​out as well.

Sehr leckeres Koreanisches essen! Das Essen bekommt man für einen fairen Preis. Bedienung und Essen sind Top! Kommen gerne wieder.

Absolute and definitively the BEST and most authentic Yukgaejang I’ve had, counting and taking in consideration of Korea and LA!!! Honestly, it was probably best I’ve had so far!!!
Being Korean and being picky about its authentic taste and content, i didnt expect much from this little place which seemed to cater to the local tourists. Boy was I so wring and completely blown away at how AWESOME and mire than authentic their Yukgaejang was!!(spicy beef soup for those who are not familiar)
I am so humbled and forever grateful for the wonderful heavenly experience!

Sehr, sehr leckeres koreanisches Essen! Wir haben uns vor allem an den zwei Bulgogis (Gebraten und als «Suppe» (eher viel Soße)) vergangen und es war köstlich. Vor allem das «Suppen”-Bulgogi mit Reis (auf einem Unilocal Foto auch zu sehen) ist SEHR empfehlenswert und hat mich fast an Sukiyaki erinnert. Auch die Teigtaschen-​Vorspeise und die Miso Suppe zum Hauptgericht waren sehr gut.
Reservieren ist wahrscheinlich eine gute Idee, da das Restaurant sehr klein und anscheinend zumindest am Wochenende gut besucht ist. Die Bedienungen sind sehr freundlich.
Unbedinge Weiterempfehlung!

Lieblingskoreaner!
Das beste und leckerste Bulgogi Rindfleisch, was ich jemals gegessen habe. Besonders die Bulgogi Suppe mit Glasnudeln ist mein Favorit geworden, für die es sich extra nach Heidelberg zu fahren lohnt! :)

Menu was great and service was good! Location is right next to lift for the castle. Recommend the bibimbap. Korean spicy chicken was spicy so if you like spice that was good as well. Yakimandu was also tasty!

Sehr leckerer Koreaner !! Das Essen ist top! Eines der besten Koreaner in der Umgebung. Leider ist es dort immer ziemlich voll das man fast nur mit Reservierung einen Platz bekommt. Die Bedingung ist freundlich aber es gab schon mal einen Vorfall wo ich leider keine 5 Sterne geben kann.
Und zwar hatten wir einen Tisch reserviert und wir hatten alle fertig gegessen. Ich habe mir daraufhin noch etwas bestellt zum mitnehmen. Während der Zeit wo wor auf meinen Take away gewartet haben, hat die Bedienung uns aufgefordert draußen zu warten. Wir hatten alle unsere Getränke noch nicht ausgetrunken. Das War einfach nur dreist.

Zufällig habe ich diesen tollen Koreaner in Heidelberg entdeckt.
Gelegen direkt gegenüber der Abfahrtstelle der Steilbahn zum Kaiserstuhl und von außen recht unscheinbar (und auch von innen eher «minimalistisch»)
Hineingehen lohnt. Wir waren Mittags hier, bestellten aber aus der «normalen» Karte, es gab keine «Mittagskarte» — ich hatte ein Bi Bim Bap im heißen Steintopf mit 3 Beilagen und einer Miso-​Suppe.
Das Bi Bim Bap war sehr lecker und fein zubereitet. Es sah auch gut aus (bevor ich es verrührte ;-)).
Auch das Gericht meiner Begleitung (koreanisches Hühnchen irgendwas, auf Reis ;-)), welches in auch probieren konnte — war sehr gut.
Preislich gingen wir mit zwei Getränken mit einer Rechnung von unter 25 EUR raus. WOW — das nenne ich mal preiswert!
Klare Empfehlung.

This Korean restaurant is located directly across from the funicular rail station in Heidelberg. There are Korean flags and Hangul used to draw attention to the fact that it is, in fact, Korean.
Atmosphere: We stopped in for lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was about half full and the arrangement is such that the tables and chairs impinge somewhat on each other because of the shape of the interior being more trapezoidal than square. For some unknown reason, after our party of 3 sat down at a table for 4, the waitress added an unneeded chair to the end of the table shoving it underneath directly into my foot, ankle, leg, and knee.
Service: Korean. They pretty much won’t acknowledge you until you call them. I was dining with a Korean, which helped, as even though I am fairly proficient in the language they kept trying to use German or English with me.
Food: We got 2 orders of fried mandu (dumplings) with, I think, pork in them as well as 2 orders of yukgyejang, a spicy beef, vegetable, and noodle stew that is a Korean adaptation of some Chinese dish or another.
The fried mandu was as expected, either pre-​packaged frozen or commercially formed and then fried. Either way, it was good, fried perfectly and presented with a seasoned soy sauce for dipping.
The yukgyejang was somewhat disappointing. Although more flavorful and with more meat than my last yukgyejang fiasco in a Korean restaurant outside of Korea, there was just something… off…about it. I don’t know if it was too much of the veggies or the proportion of the ingredients, but after about ¹⁄₃ of the bowl I just didn’t feel like finishing it. The Korean in our party who also ordered it felt the same way but also couldn’t exactly say why. It was served extremely hot — even too hot compared to the boiling heat Koreans usually like their stews and soups served at.
Overall: The whole restaurant appears to be focused on the Korean tourist trade in the area. It’s not bad Korean food, and, being only 1 hour from where I live, I would probably even drive back to have it again, however, I will not be having the yukgyejang again. (Even though my initial tip was «get the yukgyejang» posted after seeing my dish but not yet trying it.)

One who craves Korean will not be disappointed with Soban.
I had discovered Soban years earlier in Mannheim, and Soban (II) in Heidelberg is pretty much the same (ambience-​wise, quality-​wise, price-​wise). Even though the restaurant is bigger than the establishment in Mannheim, it was almost packed when we went on a Tuesday evening. Therefore, best to make a reservation if you want to go there without wait.
The bright lighting, wall painting of Asian art, and clean tables give Soban a modern feel. The selection is good, ranging from standard pancakes, mandu (dumplings), bulgogi, japchae, etc. While the banchan (complimentary side dishes) is minimal, basic, and the same everytime, the main dishes are great. The pancakes are cooked nicely, and I love beef and the sauces in the japchae. The prices are very reasonable.
My only complaint is the hit-​and-​miss service. We ordered kimchi pancakes as a starter, and we got it along with our main dishes although the food came fast. We also waited a long time (to the point where the restaurant was practically empty) before we could get additional drinks or the bill while the server was just standing behind the counter, not paying attention and checking the phone. But I can put up with that if that means I can get a good and reasonably-​priced Korean meal.
