The first ever symphony I did analysis on was Brahms 2^nd Symphony
Most people know him as the dude that wrote Lullaby.
The best part about this museum? Really? The man and woman who run it. Endearing comes to mind. The man didn’t speak much English and the woman CLAIMS she didn’t. then she comes up with words like «catacombs» and I think, your English is great! Anyway, you can walk around the museum on your own however these two are seriously SO excited, they want to go into detail about every piece. I didn’t mind because I found their enthusiasm infectious. You could tell they loved Brahms and working at the museum, and they definitely know more about each artifact than the little card accompanying each piece could tell you.
The museum is somewhat on the small side but is packed with scores, artifacts, and even Brahms death mask which is quite remarkable.

Aufgepasst! Liebe Freunde der Klassischen Musik, auch die Hamburger haben ihre sehr berühmten Söhne auf diesem Gebiet. Johannes Brahms zum Beispiel wurde unweit des kleinen Museums geboren und wuchs da auch auf.
Das Museum zeigt einen Querschnitt durch sein Leben. Es sind Exponate wie Briefe, Fotos, Autographen, Notendrucke und Konzertprogramme, das Schreibpult und ein Tafel-Klavier des berühmten Komponisten ausgestellt. Im Vordergrund steht aber natürlich seine Beziehung zu seiner Geburts– und Heimatstadt Hamburg.
Ich finde die Ausstellung, welche dauerhaft ist, unheimlich interessant und aufschlussreich, und vor allem sehenswert und besuchenswert. Dies ist ein absolutes Muss für Brahms — Enthusiasten.
