Guten Appetit!

Let me start by telling you that I have had never Indonesian food before so I don’t have another dining experience to compare this lunch to. Having said that — I really liked what I ordered! I went here for lunch last week with a few fellow Elite Unilocalers. All of us ordered the Nasi Mawang — just different varieties. I got the one with chicken. For 6,90 €, I definitely received a decent amount of food that was nicely presented. The amount of chicken could be increased in my opinion, but the fried egg on top was a looker and it also went well with the rest of the dish. By itself, I might have found things a bit bland, but luckily there was a spicy condiment on the table to heat things up. After I stirred a generous portion in, I was loving everything. I will definitely come back and bring our 6-year old next time as well since he is going to love eating rice and noodles in the same meal. ;)

If 3.5 stars was an option, that is what I would give this place. But it is not an option, so I’ll stick with a 4⁄5 star. I was stoked when I saw that this place had opened a few months ago here in Frankfurt. It is located where the old«Llamo» was, and apparently it is owned by the same crew. That already starts them off well, in my opinion. I have a huge affinity for anything Llamo serves up. I haven’t had a chance to make it over to Wayang until just today. I went with other Elite Unilocalers and we have all been keen to try their Indonesian food for a while. Like Llamo, there is a small menu. I LOVE when restaurants don’t overdue it and just specialize on a few, tasty dishes. They also have a winter menu consisting of four hearty looking soups. I opted for the vegetarian Nasi Mawut, which is a mixture of rice and noodles(would have prefered Nasi Goreng, but it wasn’t a menu option and that is okay!) It came out promptly and looked extremely appetizing. It had carrots, cucumber, tomato, mushrooms(EWWWW, but it didn’t state this on menu so I didn’t know), etc. There is a spicy mixture at the table you an stir in for some heat. It also comes with the typical sunny-side up egg on top. The food was good! Not the best I’ve had by any stretch of the imagination, but pretty good considering I don’t think there are any other Indonesian restaurants in Frankfurt(although you can get some dishes at Thai Imbiss(es?) and what not). I think I may be a harsh critic because I’ve had Indonesian food in Indonesia and some very Indonesian-heavy communities around the world. The dish was 6,90 Euros. That is the same price as the chicken and beef options, which is a bit strange considering the only real difference is mine had some gross mushrooms added instead of meat. But hey, still an affordable price! The portion size was adequate and perfect for a filling lunch. The only issue I had with the food was there was a lack of depth with it. It was just kind of hangover food, but really good hangover food. Nevertheless, I’ll be back and I intend to try everything on their menu and see how it measures up.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, its owned by one of my favourite restaurants in Frankfurt(Lhamo) so I assumed this place would be great too! It’s situated where Lhamo used to be in Leipziger Strasse, so the inside can only hold 5 or so groups of people but the atmosphere is good and the dining experience is pleasant. Like Lhamo they have kept to a small menu, which they have really perfected, ensuring that every meal is of high quality. I ordered the Nasi Mawut with beef. It came out quickly and seemed very fresh as everyone I was dining with ordered a variation of this dish and they each came out as they were prepared. The meal was great and filling at the time. Between the 4 of us we devoured nearly 2 pots of the spicy condiment on the table. One slight downside of this meal is about an hour later I felt like i could of eat another portion of food. This place is definitely a good four star restaurant and I will be returning to try the other dishes available while drinking a delicious Bintang beer.

It’s a cute little bistro with tasty Indonesian food and friendly service. Their Chicken Satay & Pangsit goreng(fried dumplings) are worth a try. They only offer 8 dishes though, wish they would have more variety in the future.

Came here with a friend and was quite impressed. The restaurant is small but the décor and atmosphere is nice and modern. There is not much on the menu which is usually a good sign. We ordered the number 2 and 5. Both were really good. My dish was packed with flavor and the egg on top was delicious. The beef on the dish was cooked nicely. I loved the spicy sauce they served on the side. My friend was very satisfied with her order as well. The prices are very fair and a .50 liter beer only costed 2.50 €. Overall very satisfied and will definitely be back.
