Tran Pho House

There’s a saying in my culture is that if you want phở you should only go to a phở house, but the reverse is not always true (that you should order only phở at phở house). I came here to eat Vietnamese food based on the recommendation of a Berlin-​local friend after we both experienced the debacle of Monsieur Vuong last year.
However, we were both vegetarians so I started laughing when I found out he took me to a phở house that specialises in beef or chicken rice noodle soup. We were part of a large group and ironically not one of us ordered the phở.
My friend and I got tofu dishes along with tofu spring rolls which tasted fine but not terribly imaginative for me in terms of spice and ingredients. The «Vietnamese» word for tofu on the menu (dau phu) confused me since I had never seen it spelled or pronounced that way and apparently the waitress didn’t understand me when I said (dau hu). I couldn’t tell which dialect of Vietnamese the family staff were speaking to each other so it may have been a regional difference.
Other people in my group liked their meat dishes although two commented that the grilled pork was too dry.
Prices were about double for a similar dish you can get in Houston. Somewhat understandable since the ingredients are probably more expensive and harder to obtain in Germany. My relatives in Germany always commented that Vietnamese food in Europe is too expensive and inferior to what you get compared to Vietnam or its American meccas so I should just say no next time someone tries to take me to eat Vietnamese in a foreign country.

Das Resaurant ist sehr, sehr schön eingerichtet, groß, wunderschöné Riesenfotos an den Wänden, alles sehr schick und fernöstlich, einladend.
Nicht dieser Überstyltheit … so schicky micky like… sondern du kommst rein und fühlst dich wohl.
Ich hatte Shushi und das war leider nicht so toll,
meine Freundin nahm eins der vietnamesischen Gerichte und fands super.
Die hab ich nicht gekostet weil alle mit Scheinefleisch… ess ich nicht.
Die Bedienung was aber sehr zuvorkommend und hat so traurig geguckt, als ich gesagt habe, das es mit nicht so toll geschmeckt hat, das es mir total leid getan hat.;-(
.Nächstes Mal probier ich ein Curry… das scheckt bestimmt.

Ob die vietnamesische Küche authentisch ist kann ich nicht beurteilen. Aber immer wenn ich hier esse schmeckt es mir ausgezeichnet und ich kann sagen, dass dieses Restaurant eine konstant hohe Qualität hat.
Die Einrichtung ist minimalistisch und schlicht aber trotzdem besitzt der Raum eine gewisse Gemütlichkeit. Das Konzept des Ladens ist Selbstbedienung, deshalb geht auch alles relativ schnell und die Menschen hinter dem Ladentisch sind immer sehr freundlich.
