Leysieffer is known as one of the best chocolatiers in the world — and we used to love this place. Been there with friends yesterday and would have fired the entire staff immediately. Guys, if you hate working there — quit and work somewhere else. This place is just to good and too expensive to be ruined by you.

On Berlin’s main shopping drag, this shoebox shop packs in a ton of chocolate delights into a very small space. Look simply for the sign that states«Chocoloaterie» and you have found the right spot. The back wall consists entirely of chocolate bars flavored with all kinds of hunky additions, such as coarsely ground coffee beans. Another interesting option was white chocolate with jalapeño. We sampled some chocolate dipped cakes that were the size of large donuts and were in a word, awesome(though ranged in price from 6 to 9 euro). There were too many delicacies to name, but they included chocolate dipped cornflake bars which looked awesome. Definitely worth a look if you love everything chocolate.

Does anyone remember that episode of the Simpsons where two Germans buy the power plant, Homer meets them and they tell him they’re from the«land of chocolate» and he starts having a daydream about being in a chocolate fairyland? If not, you can go ahead and think I’m crazy, but if you do, THAT’S how I felt when I walked into this lovely chocolate shop. Being the chocoholic that I am, I was determined to buy lots of chocolate during my visit to Berlin so that I could hoard it and bring it back to Vancouver. The Confiserie Leysieffer enabled me to do just that. With about a zillion types of chocolate to choose from, this store is a feast for the senses. I ended up buying a number of chocolate bars(because you can cram more of them into a suitcase) and I gave one to most of my friends and family when I returned. Everyone fell in love with it, and we’re all fiending for more. Since I bought so much, I tried several varieties, but the ones that stick out are the lavender, chai, and hazelnut bars. Sure, they’re pricier than the chocolate bars you’ll find in the convenience stores(although cheap German chocolate kicks cheap Canadian chocolate’s ass any day), it’s worth the price to have true artisan craftsmanship. I can’t believe I’ve written so much about this business, but such is my love for all things chocolate. I highly recommend any other chocolate enthusiasts to give this place a try.

LS
