Nice coffee and cheesecake (not the best I had in my life but respectable) ;)
It is lovely to sit outside when the weather is good.

BEST CHEESECAKE IN BERLIN. What else do I need to say? The café is a cool little spot with always a nice crowd in there, the baristas are always in good spirits and their coffee is delicious as well. Go take your girl/​guy/​yourself there and you won’t be disappointed. Go like after having brunch somewhere on a Sunday, walk through a park, throw rocks into the spree, and then go to five elephant to fill your new hunger with cheesecake, because it’s the best in the damn city let me tell ya

I had a pretty good espresso (€ 2,20) and a delicious blueberry cake (€ 3,something).
The cake definitely outshined the coffee, though. I’ve had better (for cheaper) in Berlin.
Will come back for more cake and maybe some beans (roasted in-​shop apparently?) as a Mitbringsel.
Some of the workers seem to speak English only, which shouldn’t be surprising in this Kiez /​in a hipster-​ish Berlin café, but still caught me off guard. It should also be noted that as of this review, there are 46 Unilocal reviews of this place in English and 42 in German. Just a fact — make whatever conclusions you’d like.

Heard about their so populer cheesecakes and went to check it. That’s true itu is good but not the best for me. Good location. Reasonable prices and good for never ending conversations.

This another one of those Berlin places that you ought to hit up. They roast their own beans and supposedly have decent coffee. I’ve had their croissants (oddly from another café in Mitte) and so they were definitely on my radar. So I met a friend for coffee here this afternoon. Since I’d skipped lunch I took a slice of the infamous cheesecake. Now, expectations I will admit, were on the high side especially as a few weeks back I went on a cheesecake binge with a visiting friend. Afraid it did not cut the mustard… base was overly cinnamony and not crunchy enough and the filling was… a bit bland for me. Also the filling to base ratio was not optimal. The coffee, a flat white of course (hipster wannabe that I am) wasn’t super warm and too milky for me. So all in all a bit disappointing.

Ordered 2 drinks and a slice of cake. For the half hour we waited (even after asking once if we were forgotten) you would have thought we were waiting for a proper 3 course meal.
Hot chocolate tasted like hot milk. Coffee was average. Cake was unbelievably underwhelming; you can find much tastier, much bigger sweet things in Berlin for half the price.
Just completely overhyped.

I guess I must be unlucky, but the both times I was here the Americano I ordered was barely drinkable.

It is one of the ordinary Berlin style cafes. Small, composed of 5 tables which makes it almost impossible to find a place to sit.
They serve good coffee but I don’t understand why their cheesecake is that popular. They only serve one kind of cheesecake (Philly Cheesecake) which is good but nothing special.
Service and people working there are really nice and kind though.

Another fantastic place in Berlin for a great cup of coffee.
Pity to see some people say this place have bad service. I’ve never personally experienced it though.

Kein Wunder, dass es im Five Elephant immer so voll ist: Kaffee, Cappuccino und Kuchen, vor allem der Cheese Cake sind einfach supergut!!! Die Bedienung ist sehr nett, allerdings ist es von Vorteil, wenn man Englisch spricht!!! Und manchmal, wenn es voll ist, dauert es einfach sehr lange, bis man endlich seinen Kaffee bekommt.

Der Kaffee von Five Elephant hat ja sämtliche Preise abgeräumt und wird auch bei uns in Hamburg ziemlich abgefeiert. Man kann da auch nix gegen sagen, denn lecker ist er allemal. Wir haben uns hier am Wochenende nur schnell einen Flat White (wer’s genau nimmt, darf hier nachlesen, was das ist:
) zum Mitnehmen geholt, was in diesen Kaffeeläden immer mit zehn Minuten Wartezeit oder mehr verbunden ist. Da fragt man sich: wie machen’s die Italiener eigentlich? Da kriegt man seinen Kaffee ja fast direkt beim Reinkommen in die Hand gedrückt.
Nunja, wer im hippen Berlin sich noch ein bisschen hipper als andere fühlen will, ist hier auf jeden Fall gut aufgehoben. Hier ist man als normaler Nicht-​Kunst-​und-​Kultur-​Schaffender auf jeden Fall der große Exot. Dementsprechend bleibt man aber wahrscheinlich auch immer ein wenig unter der Würde der Leute um einen herum. Aber, damit kann ich leben.

Sehr uriges kleines Amerikanisches Café.
Mit vielen echt leckeren Sachen, die nicht so gewöhnlich sind.

Klasse Cappuccino getrunken und der Philly Cheesecake ist der Kaiser unter den Käsekuchen!!! absolute Geschmacks Bombe für den Gaumen :)

Ahh comme j’aimerais me téléporter au Five Elephant là tout de suite…
Après une balade à vélo, un ami de Berlin nous emmèné dans cet endroit un peu caché mais réputé et branchouille.
Ce café-​patisserie se trouve dans une sublime et discrète rue de Kreuzberg. Le trottoir assez large a permis d’y installer une jolie terrasse bien spacieuse avec de petites tables en bois. J’ai adoré ce sentiment d’être entourée d’arbres mais également de sentir que je suis en plein coeur de la ville.
J’entre pour choisir ma part de Kuchen et wahou ! La déco est un sans faute, design, cosy et pas froid pour un sou, bref très sympa mais sans en faire trop. L’odeur qui émane de la grande cuisine (située dans l’arrière partie de la salle mais visible) me fait chavirer. Une très jolie fille est en train de faire des gâteaux tout en disant bonjour à tout le monde.
On vient ici pour les pâtisseries. On en prend trois, et c’est un sans faute. Niveau café, rien à dire, les latte étaient perfetto.
De ce que j’ai compris, l’endroit est tenu par un couple (une américaine pâtissière et un allemand) et c’est tout le temps plein car ils font les meilleurs kuchen de Berlin (m’a-t-on dit).
En tout cas pour moi, il s’agit d’un passage obligé quand je suis à Berlin !

Staff is rude. I felt like i was begging for the waiter/​barman attention when ordering, and the guy answered me without general politeness. He didnt greet me, didn’t say thanks after ordering and never ever put a smile on his face. On contrary. It’s Not nice to get a piss. Are the workers at 5 elephants having a shit time while working, or it’s just their snobbish attitude accompanying during shift times? What is it?
Cheesecake was very good but it’s often sold out very early.

I didn’t want to really complicate my life, so I went for coffee to Five Elephant. Outside the café were sitting a lot of lovers of perfect coffee and good homemade cakes, but fortunately, a piece of their famous cheesecake left for my sweet-​tooth. It was delicious, with crisp buttery biscuit base, a hint of vanilla in the cream cheese mixture and a layer of natural salt Philadelphia on the top. It was truly one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever eaten. Not The Barn, but Five Elephant — that’s the best café in Berlin!

A really great hipster café with delicious cheesecake and flat white! Get both of them and your morning will be off to a terrific start.

Une belle ambiance, incluant décoration et musique. Le café commandé était délicieux et le sucre mis à disposition sur la table était du sucre de canne! Que demander de mieux!
Je n’ai pas eu la chance d’essayer un morceau de gâteau ou de pâtisserie. J’aurais bien aimé qu’ils offrent sandwich et soupes mais c’est probablement mieux de se concentrer sur une confection impeccable de café!

Mehr Schein als sein… mag daran liegen das ich mir verarscht vorkam bzw. wurde. Ein Eiscafé 0,2 in dem mehr Eis (ich spreche von Würfeln) als Café war für 3,80 € und das in Berlin???
Cappuccino, Eiscafé und ein Stück Kuchen für 9,60 €, sorry das ist frech. Ja der Kuchen war okay, rechtfertigte dennoch nicht den Preis!
Ach ja und putzt mal eure Toiletten!!!

Customer service was lacking. No manners and rude to paying customers! Sadly they were also out of cheesecake.

Came here finally after purchasing a bag of well roasted five elephant beans from a nice café in Mitte — Oslo Café. Greeted by an annoying Australian server who when I asked what cake he would recommend suggested one not currently available. Anyways in the time I was there the server was obnoxious to other customers, the barista was rude, the espresso was inadequately pulled, the cake was okay but mostly sugar, they indignantly closed 10 minutes early and turned away about 8 customers. I can say though that the furniture was nice. I would recommend concierge coffee rather than going out of the way for five elephant.

Berlin isn’t known for always having the friendliest service staff at the best of times, and I’ve lived here for almost a year and feel like I’m pretty used to it now.
However, this morning I met the two most snobbish and rude café staff I’ve encountered here — which is impressive for all the wrong reasons, so much so that I felt compelled to write a review. First off, they made fun of me while ordering coffee; I asked for a coffee with a shot of espresso — as I might in the US, as their menu said «extra shot» directly next to «Filterkaffee» — to which the first guy replied,“I hope you mean next to the coffee and not in the coffee,” without even a hint of irony. Then the other guy said «I must be from Canada» or some other bullshit to that effect, due to my obvious lack of taste (I’m from Minnesota, by the way). When the coffees did come out — not at the same time for myself and my girlfriend — the guy didn’t acknowledge either of our thanks and general politeness, or say anything at all. They both made the whole process far more difficult and douchey than it needed to be — I mean seriously guys, you make fucking coffee, ease up on holier-​than-​thou attitude.
Otherwise, the coffee was decent but too expensive, and the ambience was fine too. Nothing special, awful staff. Will never go back.

The location is great and yes, the cheesecake is good. Very good. And so are their coffees. I like this place a lot.

Five Elephant’s cheesecake is a dream come true. I typically dislike the idea of cheese and cake together, but wow this cake proved me wrong. It is creamy, buttery, and crumbles-​in-​your-​mouth delicious. The topmost layer is a tart, yogurtlike cream, while the middle is creamy and sweet… and the best part is the crust — a perfect balance of graham cracker and cinnamon.
I would come back for the cheesecake in a heartbeat. It is dangerous to stay too long, because like me, you will end up ordering more than one slice.

Five Elephant does a great many things right. But it’s not quite perfect.
Let’s get this out of the way, if you order anything except the Flat White you need your head checked. It’s sublime.
Entering Five Elephant you’ll be confronted with a welcoming staff and a sparsely decorated interior. And here is lies the first of Five Elephant’s two problems, there’s just not enough places to sit. Actually there are plenty places to sit, but they’re arranged in and around large tables which lead to couples sitting in a space for 4 and spreading out. Even when people don’t spread out, it can be quite daunting to sit down with strangers.
The cakes and pies under the counter are lovely, morish even, and they come in a decent enough portion for sharing.
They roast their own beans in the café, which can also be bought for use at home.
My only last complaint comes from something which has happened twice, I’ve been forgotten. And I don’t mean I came in and sat down and they didn’t get round to me, I mean I came in, ordered coffee and sat down, and wasn’t served. Now the first time I was with a friend, so it wasn’t that bad, but the second time it was busy and I was alone, getting growlers from people coming in, looking for somewhere to sit and assuming I was finished and just hogging the seat. I had to ask twice to be served, which is more than a little rubbish.
However, as I say, the coffee is the best in the kiez, so give it a go!

WOW — is the first word popping into my head after visiting the Five Elephant! I was told that they were serving the best cheesecakes ever, since I’m a huge fan of cheesecake, i was of course sceptical — However, the rumours were right!
The cheesecake was absolutely perfect — creamy, puffy and crispy! YUM I was served a big slice and it made me feel so torn. in one way you did not want this cake to end but on the other hand it was almost too much for me, what a world problem hurh?! ;)
To complement the cheesecake, we had some really good coffee, I never really for the name of the coffee — but it sure was good! And the waiter was super nice trying to explain the different sorts of coffee and guiding us to a type fitting our preferences.
The service and atmosphere was really good, the place is kind of small and minimalistic decorated, but they sure understand how to make you feel like home there.
If you want to bring your computer there, its cool with them — however, you must sit in the back room — which I think is really cool :)
It will for sure not be my last visit at the Five Elephant.

I bought a package of coffee here as a present and the service was incredibly nice and gave me detailed and helpful advice and recommendations. Thank you! The interior looks beautifully rustical and the place was nicely crowded with young international professionals chatting or working on their computers. Will come back for a coffee break soon!

Der Kaffee ist hier sehr lecker und der cheesecake, einer der besten den ich je gegessen habe.

This place is heaven: they roast their own coffee in the shop, hence their flat white just tastes perfect. Accompany it with probably the best Philadelphia cheesecake in town.

Nachdem ich so viel über den fantastischen American Cheesecake im Five Elephant gehört hatte, mussten mein Mann und ich selbstredend dorthin um selbst zu erfahren was an diesen Hype dran ist.
Der laden ist schlicht und minimalistisch eingerichtet. Man konzentriert sich auf seinem kaffee und den Kuchen oder Bagel :)
Etwas eigenartig fand ich den Hinweis dass Laptops nur im «Backroom» erlaubt sind. Muss ich wohl nicht verstehen.
Es war sehr voll und die Jungs und Mädels waren auch sehr busy. Wir haben kaffe bestellt und zwei stück Apfelkuchen, da der Cheesecake bereist aus war.
Vielleicht am Wochendnde wenn es voll ist, mehr Cheesecake backen, Jungs.
Allerdings war es überhaupt nicht schlimm, dass es kein Cheesecake mehr gab, denn der Apfelkuchen war ein, wie sagt man heutzutage so schön?, ein Träumchen (Gott klingt das schwul *grins*).
Saftig, die kruste auf dem Kuchen leicht karamelisiert und knusprich und sogar der Rand, denn ich normalwerweise IMMER verschmähe, schmeckte extrem lecker.
Also schliesse ich mich die Fangemeinde an und sage dass in Five Elephant wahnsinnig leckere Kuchen gebacken werden.
Nur ein kleienr Hinweisan die englischsprechende Dame die Heute dienst hatte:

I was a bit shocked about how grumpy and not interested you answered my question when I asked what «cupping» means.
It is not too hard to smile. Even when it’s busy. I have worked in 3 michelin star restaurrants and I know how much stress it is to work with guests.

Ein schickes kleines Café mit einer großen Auswahl an selbst gemachten Kuchen.
Ein großer Pluspunkt ist der selbst geröstet Kaffee und die mit liebe gemachten verschiedenen Kaffee Variationen.

Es lohnt sich definitiv für diesen Laden quer durch Berlin zu fahren, was ich schon des öfteren getan habe :). Der Käsekuchen ist phantastisch und man bekommt einen der besten Kaffees der Stadt.

Ich kaufe hier regelmäßig geröstetet Bohnen, um mir meinen Kaffee zu Hause zuzubereiten … gute Auswahl und immer mal wieder eine neue Sorte dabei. Außerdem sind die Leute hinterm Tresen immer sehr nett!
Als Café zum Rumsitzen ist’s mir ein bisschen zu hip und ein bisschen zu voll.

Nicht umsonst ein sehr gehyptes Café, welches im Rahmen der «Third-Wave”-Bewegung vorallem durch seine faire und umweltbewusste Bohnenrösterei bekannt geworden ist. Schon vielfach in anderen, sehr geschätzten Cafes genossen, ergab sich nun endlich auch ein direkter Besuch in Kreuzberg.
Die gut besuchte, kleine Location bietet innen nicht viele Sitzgelegenheiten, von denen die wenigen Stehtische noch zusätzlich von heimatlosen Macbookusern belagert waren. Die sehr freundliche Bedienung ließ sich trotz des Andrangs nicht aus der Ruhe bringen und beriet herzlich zur richtigen Wahl.
Der sagenumwobenesatanarchäolügenialkohöllische New York-​Cheesecake nach Oma´s Geheimrezept ist der Verkaufsschlager, aber auch das lecker-​lockere Bananabread, Heidelbeer-​Haferflockenkuchen, Cookies und Co. lockten in der Auslage.
Die Entscheidung fiel auf einen köstlich-​schokoladigen Schoko-​Brombeerkuchen, der mit seiner feinen Fruchtnote in Kombination mit dem Cremetopping überzeugte.
Zum geschmackvoll-​abgerundeten Cappuccino mit Sojamilch muss man nicht viel sagen –hingehen und geniessen!*

Echt guter Cheesecake, Cappucino war auch lecker. Nicht so positiv fand ich, dass man drinnen nicht gut sitzen.

Kaffee und Kuchen

Den besten Kaffee weit und breit findet man im Five Elephant! Das Café ist kein Laden zum stundenlangen Herumhängen und Plaudern, sondern eher mal zum Zeitunglesen und vor allem um einen leckeren, professionell zubereiteten Kaffee zu trinken.
Die Einrichtung ist klar und eher minimalistisch, wenn das Wetter schön ist, ist es auch sehr nett draußen zu sitzen. Das Personal ist immer sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Daumen hoch für den Elefanten!

Modernes, entspanntes Café mit simplem, ruhigem Interieur und netter Bedienung. Laptops können und sollen nur an den Stehtischen benutzt werden. Zum nichtdigitalen Zeitvertreib liegen dafür einige Zeitschriften und Magazine aus. Bei gutem Wetter lässt es sich gemütlich draußen auf dem Bürgersteig unter den Bäumen sitzen.
Der Cappuccino schmeckt hervorragend– besonders mit dem hausgemachten Philadelphia Cheesecake, den man unbedingt probieren sollte. Den leckeren selbstgerösteten Five Elephant Kaffee kann man hier auch kaufen.

Toller Kaffee, toller KÄSEKUCHEN im netten Ambiente.
Mir persönlich ist der Laden etwas zu hip.
Ansonsten ist das Café aber einen Besuch absolut wert.

If you’re bothered by the presence of hipsters, then you probably are one yourself. Get over it, or move to Eisenhüttenstadt!
Also, if hipsters are good for one thing, it’s knowing where to get the best coffee they are like the truffle pigs of gourmet coffee beans!
