Die Berliner Republik

Es muy entretenida la manera de pedir y beber cerveza según el precio en bolsa. Un lugar muy animado donde nos atendió un camarero simpático. No teníamos pensado cenar pero al estar tan a gusto, pedimos un plato de dos salchichas bávaras (que viene hasta los topes de patatas y col) y otro plato de salchichas frías con cebolla y col, muy buenos los dos. Nos salió la cuenta de 4 cervezas y los dos platos por 30euros. Las birras más baratas suelen estar sobre los 2,2euros 30cl.

We made a reservation, we received a confirmation email… They didnt care, even when we showed the confirmation email. Don’t go here, there are plenty of better options in the area.

My girlfriend and I were in Berlin for one night, so we needed to make it count, when it came to finding a place to eat and drink German beer. She heard of this place that was described as basically a beer stock market, and it wasn’t terribly inaccessible from where were staying, so it seemed like good as place as any to try to make that one place.
Although it doesn’t reflect to how hard we had to work in order to get there, under normal circumstances, Die Berliner Republik should be easy to get to via local metro train S-​bahn or U-​bahn whatever; all the trains were screwed during our visit due to some catastrophic accident, so I can’t really confirm or deny ease of accessibility. But there’s a train stop access like nearly right in front their door, so it probably is.
It should come as no surprise that a place known for being a beer stock market is a big tourist draw, and naturally on a Saturday night, the place was almost completely packed when we got there. It’s unclear on seating etiquette is upon arrival, as there’s no signs saying to wait to be seated nor did we know to take an open table if we saw one. A lady who presumably worked there told us that it was about a 30 minute wait for a table, in English, which in itself is a surprise considering almost nobody spoke any English in Berlin as far as I was concerned, but we ended up taking two open bar seats anyway, and nobody said anything.
Now seated, I was able to really soak in the view and atmosphere of the place, and as mentioned it was packed and busy, but in a jovial and lively way. Up on the walls are large screens with basically stock market displays, but of the various beers available on site, and how they were trending and subsequently priced at the moment. It was my understanding that the prices change every 3 – 5 minutes based on how they’re selling, and it’s wholly possible to get beer pretty cheap if ordered at the right time. We were fortunate to have witnessed «a crash,» where they ring a bell, and all beer is sold at its lowest cost, and it’s a mad rush to get orders placed and locked in at that cost. It’s an interesting concept that’s both functional as well as unique at attracting attention and business.
Needless to say, I did quite my share of drinking while I was there.
As for the food, being in Germany for a night meant that we’d have to order things like sausages of varying types. I don’t remember what mine was called, but it a massive wurst, it came with stewed red cabbage, as well as the most phenomenal mashed potatoes I can remember having in ages. Seriously, the sausage was delicious, the red cabbage went with it way better than I thought they would have, but the potatoes really were the most memorable part of the meal. I don’t know what they did with them, but they were probably the best mashed potatoes I’ve had in a really, really long time.
Now I don’t want to be too critical about the service, as I’m pretty sure there’s a lot that can be chalked up to simply cultural difference and the fact that the place was slammed as I already stated. But service here was slow and inattentive. I told myself numerous times throughout my tour of Europe that «maybe that’s how it’s done in Europe,» but it was still like 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence at the bar. The bartender was a nice and young guy that actually spoke very good English, but I was admittedly growing agitated by the lack of acknowledgment after as long as we had waited.
Overall, the experience was positive. The interesting concept of the restaurant makes for fun, the food quality was pretty decent, and I got to sample a good bit of German beers that I’d never heard of. The service is what prevents it from being five stars in my opinion, but overall I think it’s a good place, and I’m glad I went here with my one available meal in Berlin.

Die tolles Lokal mit viel Atmosphäre. Freundliche Bedienung und sehr gute Speisen. Ein MUSS, wer nach Berlin Kommt.

A very average German restaurant with notoriously European slow service. The stock market concept sounds interesting, but in the end it’s kinda a gimmick. It’s not really interactive and doesn’t compel you to buy one thing over another. While it’s in a good location, you’ll probably land the touristy crowd. Keep walking.

Essen absolute Katastrophe — einmal und nie wieder!
Essen ging zurück, weil ungenießbar (versalzen, pampig…). Die Fassbrause war eine abgestandene Plörre. Trotz Beschwerde und Reklamation wurde auf volle Bezahlung bestanden. Armer Kellner, denn der war wirklich nett.

Unhöflich Bedienung. Bei leeren Getränken wird nicht erneut nachfragt ob man etwas möchte. 5 von 6 Essen wurden zu spät oder falsch geliefert.

Die Lage ist echt super, die Angestellten waren auf Zack, das Essen war gut ich hatte Königsberger Klopse. Leider stehen draußen die Stühle und Tische viel zu dicht zusammen

Ich bin sehr gespalten was die Berliner Republik angeht.
Zum einen, wie manch anderer sagt, eine Institution, zum anderen aber eine, die das nicht hält, was sie verspricht. Mehrmals hier gewesen und jedes mal sehr voll. Die Tische sind sehr eng beieinander, was in dem Fall dem Erlebnis nicht positiv zuträglich ist.
Das Essen selbst ist für den Preis reichlich, aber so viel kann man kaum essen, was es dann nicht unbedingt günstig macht. Man wird für weniger auch satt. Die Qualität der Speisen ist nicht überragend, eher guter Durchschnitt. Getränke gehen immer extra.
Fazit: Wer gemütlich frühstücken möchte, findet in Berlin sicher entspanntere Plätze. Die Berliner Republik ist m. E. ein bisschen gehyped.

Ich war heute das erste und das letzte Mal dort. Habe mir die Brandenburger Landente mit Rotkohl und Klößen für 17,90 € bestellt. Die Ente war trocken, der Rotkohl war eine widerliche Pampe und der Kloß war steinhart!!! Der Service war schlecht. Die Kellner-​/​in waren total überfordert und nichtswissend. Also ich werde dieses Restaurant nie mehr besuchen… Schade die Lage ist traumhaft, aber das Essen…

A little bit of a tourist trap. The bread was old and the sizes of the snacks small. Wide selection of German main stream beer.

Wir waren gestern dort mit einem Gutschein von Groupon, was im vorfeld auch nicht schwer war einen Platz zu bekommen.
Nun zu unserer Kritik, der Brunch geht von 10 – 14 Uhr leider wurde ab 12:40 nichts mehr nachgelegt, dass Lokal war aber immer noch gut besucht und es kamen auch noch mehr Gäste die man den Bruch auch noch angeboten hat. Ich finde es eine ziemliche Frechheit, dass man nichts mehr nachlegt obwohl noch Gäste zum Brunch dort waren. Eine blonde unfreundliche Bedienung hat auch einem Familienvater dermaßen unfreundlich bedient, dass wir schon überlegt haben etwas zu sagen. Er war Spanier und mit kleinen Jungen vielleicht 5 Jahre da und einige Freunde. Er wollte für den kleinen eine Pizza bestellen die es leider dort nicht gibt, die Dame reagierte darauf hin sehr patzig, sowas haben wir hier nicht sind keine Pizzeria haben nur Flammkuchen, er konnte sich darunter kaum etwas vorstellen und lies es sich erklären, daraufhin fragte er sehr freundlcih ob man Salami darauf machen könnte, dieses verneinte sie so barsch, dass wir uns fragten ob sie in diesem Job richtig ist. SORRY so geht man nicht mit Gästen um. Unser Kellner der war sehr nett. Dennoch leider nicht zu empfehlen :(:(:(

Bierbörse? Noch nie gehört?!
Die Preispolitik ist am Anfang sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig, wenn man aber nicht an einer Marke festhalten möchte ist das ganze eine tolle Spielerei!
Durch die Lage im Regierungsviertel am Bahnhof Friedrichstraße war der Laden natürlich gut gefüllt. Wir hatten zum Glück frühzeitig reserviert! Ist auch online möglich…
Gegessen haben wir auch und von der Soljanka bis zur Currywurst und dem Riesenschnitzel war alles in bester Ordnung!
Das ist es dann aber auch schon: Essen hier immer wieder, Börse kann man drauf verzichten…

The restaurant is located right next to the river Spree. And it sort of in the tourist area. It’s always full of people. I tried to make an appointment with then for brunch. But it got free table till one and half month later. Well, that’s say the restaurant must be great. So I paciently waited.
Finally the waiting was finished. My partner and I carry our hungry got to this place. Wow, it was really great place. Much better than I expected. I have been to lots of brunch in berlin so far. This is one of the restaurants, which offered really lots of different choices.
The food itself was really tasty as well, as a lunch buffet, that’s quite rare. There were salat, meat, fish, bread, cereal, dessert and of crouse, fruit. There are most done with the German kitchen way. It is prefect place for the people who loves or likes to try something local. After 3 – 4 around with the biggest plate in the restaurant. I was totally full, really happy. The only request I had is, I do have they offed more fruits. It wasn’t than much when I was there.
The other thing I did really enjoy was the view. We were very lucky, our reservation table was inside the restaurant, but there were serval tables outside were available, so we just asked them, if we could changed it. The stuff here were really friendly, even it was quite full in the place. And the best thing, the weather was really nice. So we were having brunch next to the River Spree, it was not the only our tummies were feeling happy, also our mind. We did enjoy it really much. Inside of the this place also had it own charm. There were lots of photos hanging around the wall, it was quite interested and historical. The whole is like photo studio or sort of photo exhibition feeling but with people drinking and eating. At the end, this place didn’t disappointed me. I could see myself will pay a visit again in the future.

Das Restaurant «Die Berliner Republik» ist eine Institution in der Bundeshauptstadt und für seinen Sonntagsbrunch über die Landesgrenzen hinaus bekannt.
Daher ist es äußerst ratsam, dass man sich einen Tisch rechtzeitig reserviert, wenn man plant in etwa zwei Monaten dort an diesem Brunch teilnehmen zu wollen. So ist es mir ergangen. Im Februar wollte ich kurzfristig eine Reservierung vornehmen, woraufhin mir die nächste Möglichkeit für Ende April aufgezeigt wurde. Tja…
Nun haben wir es doch geschafft und konnten an dem Sagen umwobenen Brunch teilnehmen. Wir haben sogar einen Sitzplatz direkt an der Spree ergattern können. Bei bestem Brunchwetter.
Das Büffet ist reichhaltig und sehr ausgewogen. Die Speisen von überdurchschnittlich guter Qualität und sehr schmackhaft. Der Service ist freundlich und zuvorkommend. Könnte manchmal jedoch etwas aufmerksamer sein. Etwas nervig ist die Enge rund um’s Büffet. Man muss sich geradezu durchschlängeln, um auch bei allen Platten zugreifen zu können.
Letztendlich bin ich zufrieden und komme bestimmt gerne wieder.

Here’s what I really liked about this place: sitting outside next to the Spree on a temperate April evening drinking a beer and watching Berlin city life go on around me. Especially when you’ve just arrived in a new city, still a little jet-​lagged, you just want to get a feel for the pace of things.
That’s about it, though. For a place that sells itself on the gimmick of beer prices fluctuating like a stock market, the selection was terrifyingly boring. The gimmick itself didn’t seem to play into anyone’s decision about what to order. Even on a somewhat slow weeknight, our waiter could never be bothered to even come by the table, necessitating the decision after about 15 minutes to send someone inside to buy beers at the bar and bring them back outside.
Maybe under different circumstances this place can shine, but I didn’t see any signs of it. Plenty of places in Berlin to get a beer, you’ve got to have something to attract my business, and this place just fell short.

Gleich vorab: Mein Beitrag basiert (leider) nicht auf einem Besuch in diesem Lokal, sondern handelt von den Umständen, wie dieser vereitelt wurde.
Der Konkurrenzdruck in der Berliner Gastronomie ist groß. Und so ließ sich auch «Die Berliner Republik» auf eine Kooperation mit Groupon ein, um Gäste anzulocken. Ich entschied mich für ein Sonntagsbruch und war gespannt, was mich erwarten würde. Aus bisherigen Erfahrungen weiß ich, dass man meist rechtzeitig reservieren muss, so dass ich 3,5 Wochen vor meinem Wunschtermin anrief. Ich war guter Dinge. Die Dame am anderen Ende entgegnete nach dem Wort Groupon nur reflexartig: «Da kann ich Ihnen frühestens Mitte Mai etwas anbieten.»
Damit hatte sich die Sache für mich erledigt.
Ein Stern («Boah, das geht ja mal gar nicht!») ist hier deswegen angebracht, weil ich es schlichtweg eine Frechheit finde, dass ich meinen Restaurantbesuch im Falle des «Berliner Republik» fast ein Vierteljahr im Voraus planen muss, was nicht nur aberwitzig sondern auch ganz und gar branchenunüblich ist. Anstatt über die Rabattaktion Kunden für sich zu gewinnen, erreicht man nun durch die kurzsichtige Gestaltung des «Deals» genau das Gegenteil. Und wenn da offenbar mehr Gutscheine verkauft werden, als dann Buchungsplätze verfügbar sind, spricht das gegen die Professionalität des Ladens und für mich auch gegen die Qualität insgesamt.

Nettes Lokal, gutes Essen, unfreundliche Bedienung die das schöné Lokal und das gute Essen mit Ihrer Art leider die Sterne komplett stielt! Ohne diese eine Kellnerin, hätte das Restaurant mehr STerne erhalten!

Das Restaurant «Die Berliner Republik» veräußert über das Gutscheinportal
Coupon´s für den sonntäglichen Frühstücksbrunch.
Soweit so gut, das machen viele Berliner Restaurants so.
Im Gegensatz zu anderen genutzten Anbietern, ist hier aber die Einlösung unmöglich. Trotz erworbenen und gültigen Wertgutscheines, ist laut den Mitarbeitern der Berliner Republik keine Reservierung im angegebenen Gutscheinzeitraum möglich. Als Begründung wurde angegeben, dass der Laden zu klein ist und Groupon zu viele Gutscheine verkauft habe. Ich solle mir einfach das Geld von Groupon zurück holen, da es ja ein Fehler vom Gutscheinverkäufer sei, so der freundliche Mitarbeiter am Telefon der Berliner Republik.
Groupon nimmt sich nach einiger Wartezeit dem Problem an, zahlt aber nicht den Gutscheinpreis zurück. Lediglich eine Gutschrift erfolgt, die nur begrenzt Gültigkeit besitzt. Wenn ich keinen anderen Gutschein finde, verfällt wohl die Summe.
Auf die Berliner Republik und Groupon habe ich nach dieser Aktion keinen Bock mehr. Telefongespräche, Emails schreiben… nur Ärger. Und Schuld hat natürlich der Kunde und läuft sein Geld hinterher.

Worst palce to go in Berlin. Just when we arrived the waitress was very unfriendly and unhelpful to find us a table. Than she was rude to explain the menu and was trying to push beers that we didn’t order. Overall a real nightmare. Don’t go there.

mittelprächtiges brunch. Preisleistung stimmt nicht. speisen kalt auswahl ok. qualität ausreichend. Eng, laut, voll.

Die Berliner Republik muss man einfach mal gesehen haben. Es ist groß… Es ist laut… Es herrscht einfach eine super Stimmung. Die Mitarbeiter sind nicht so zurückhaltend und kalt wie woanders… Mit Berliner schnauze und passend zum Event gekleidet machen sie aus einem Abend ein Erlebnis. Freundlich und zuvorkommend wird bei gutem essen der berliner Küche ein schöner Abend bereitet. Zwanglos und nett, da braucht man die 18 verschiedenen Biersorten vom Fass nicht noch zu erwähnen… So muss man berlin erlebt haben.

Great warm pretzel as a delicious side dish to some nice cold beer. The Die Berliner sits on a canal that runs through Berlin. Its a nice place to sit and enjoy a beautiful day in Germany. Our meal consisted of a warm pretzel, you notice I’ve mentioned the pretzel twice, sausage that’s juicy and fragrant with spices. To top the meal off we went for the lentil stew filled with sausage and lentils. Great lunch and it all was washed down with some fine beer.

We used to recommend Die Berliner Republik to our visitors, but now we are having second thoughts.
The food is pretty OK, and they have a quite interesting «Beer stock exchange» that is fun. The price is normal for the area. For the most part the servers are all very nice and the restaurant is relatively tourist-​friendly.
What we don’t like is one of their business practices. If you pay by credit card in Germany, the server will usually bring a portable card reader. The usual procedure is that you would tell the server how much you’d like to tip, or the total amount you want to pay. You can of course opt to leave no tip, or leave a tip in cash. A receipt prints out, and you sign.
However, a few times the server would just add their own tip to the total without our permission. Being tourists, my visitors will usually sign, thinking this is the norm for Germany.
I think that’s not very nice, and thus I will no longer recommend my visitors to visit this restaurant. I hope the management will change this dishonest business practice. I would be happy to change my rating if this problem is fixed.
+4 stars for the food/​environment, –2 stars for dishonest business practice.

Man kann hier wunderbar draußen an der Uferpromenade sitzen und ein kühles Bier oder eine sauleckere Fassbrause genießen.
Vor oder nach einer Bootsfahrt auf der Spree sehr zu empfehlen.
Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich und schnell.

Naja, ehrlich gesagt kann man nicht erwarten, in so einem Touris-​Gegend super gut zu essen. Habe es trotzdem versucht, da die Lage einfach schön ist: direkt am Wasser, linked der Fernsehturm und Recht der Reichstag.
Kneipe ist echt schön eingerichtet, obwohl es zu wenig Platz zwischen den Tischen gibt. Draußen gibt es die Möglichkeit, direkt am Wasser das Abendbrot zu genießen.
Das Essen hat, wie gesagt, mich gar nicht begeistert. Kartoffelsalat war sicherlich nicht handgemacht, Bouletten nicht richtig gekocht.
Hier zum Bier trinken und Aussicht genießen — das Essen würde ich lieber wonanders genießen!

Okay, you can’t actually expect to have a remarkable dinner in such a touristy area. Nevertheless I gave it a go because the location is great: you sit directly on the river shore and you admire The TV tower on your left and the parliament in your right.
The pub is furnished in a really nice way, too few place among tables, though. If you decide to sit outside you’ll enjoy your meal directly in the river.
The food didn’t lift any enthusiasm in me. The potatoes salad wasn’t home made at all and meatballs weren’t cooked enough.
Come here to enjoy a beer and the breathtaking view — enojoy your food somewhere else!

Haben das Endspiel hier geschaut und es hat richtig Spaß gemacht!
Dabei haben wir Schnitzel und Currywurst bestellt, beides war lecker.
Mit vielen Sorten Bier und auch «Frauengetränken» wie Weinschorle und co. ist für jeden was dabei.

This place came highly recommended by various people and while I felt it didn’t quite live up to the hype, it was still a great experience and well worth my time and money.
There is a lot of beer on offer here… lots and lots and lots. It is sold on a stock market system — popularity of the beer changes the prices, like on a stock market. Now, we have a couple of bars that do this here in England but I’ve never been to them so the concept was pretty new to me and I must admit that I didn’t really know what I was doing. Maybe making my first experience of this type of bar in a foreign country and language probably wasn’t the best idea!
In the end I basically just ordered whatever I felt like at the time, regardless of cost. Hey, I was on holiday after all! When I did this and relaxed I enjoyed myself much more. All of the beers I tried were extremely nice, as you expect from a top bar in Berlin.
The food was good too. Nothing outstanding but still very tasty and complimented the beer perfectly.
The atmosphere was very fun and jovial, everybody was having a great time. The staff were a little rushed as the place was so busy. This meant that the service was a little slow but they were trying their best to cope.
Die Berliner Republik is located in a nice part of the city, right by the river. This makes it a great place to have a walk before or after your meal.
Overall I enjoyed this place very much and will definitely return upon further visits to Berlin.

Beer ‘stock exchange’, now that’s something you have to experience! Prices of the beer go up or down depending on demand! Definitely a cool thing to check out if you are in the area!
The food was pretty good as well. We got the Italian pizza and the currywurst. Both tasted pretty amazing. We set outside right by the river and just enjoyed people watching and the boats go by. The waitress was really friendly but that place is a little understaffed! She definitely could use some help but definitely did her best to accommodate us. Also what I found interesting is she took our order on an iphone! I really thought she was texted when she was just standing near our table but she was just waiting for us to give her our order. Definitely an interesting place!

I didn’t enjoy the place. It’s expensive and touristic. The food was nothing special. Inside it was so hot I was not hungry anymore and started to sweat a lot. But most of all, the waiter was incredibly rude, probably he didn’t understand that we can speak German and used rude and offensive tones.
I’ll never come back again.

This was highly recommend by our concierge at the Wyndham, but I found out that this place is mostly for tourists instead of locals.
This place is known for selling beers as if they were stock on stock exchange. If one particular beer is popular, then the price of that beer goes up, whereas the less popular beer prices go down.
Our waiter was really nice and even gave us free jäger shots at the end of our meal.
We ordered a side of fries, the sausages, currywurst, and a pretzel. Overall it was good but not super amazing.
I liked Tiergartenquelle more than this place, and would recommend more of a local spot to eat and drink versus a touristy one.

Ich war mit Freunden in der Berliner Republik, da wir uns die Bierbörse einmal genauer ansehen wollten.
Grundsätzlich bleibt zu sagen: Wer nicht unbedingt nur auf eine Biermarke festgelegt ist und auch gerne mal eher unbekanntere Marken probieren möchte, der ist hier richtig aufgehoben.
Wie an der Wertpapierbörse steigen und fallen die Kurse, bestimmt durch Angebot und Nachfrage. Kommt beispielsweise ein Tisch auf die Idee und bestellt 30 Kölsch, so kann es sein, dass sich der Preis schlagartig verdoppelt. Aber, keine Angst, man bezahlt nur den Kurs, den man auch bei der Bestellung ablesen konnte.
In unregelmäßigen Abständen kommt es zum Börsencrash. Dann gilt es zuzuschlagen, um von den schlagartig gepurzelten Preisen möglichst zu profitieren.
Alles in allem eine witzige Sache für Gruppen von Leuten die auch gerne ein Bier mehr trinken.

Unaufmerksames Personal
Irgendwann nach einem tollen Theaterbesuch dürstete es mir und wir entschlossen noch kurz einen Absacker in einer der nahegelegenen Kneipen zu trinken. Die Berliner Republik ist von der Einrichtung her ganz nett, man sieht alte Bilder von Berlin und hat auch viel histrorisches fürs Auge dort. Aber was mich hier störte sind dann die Bierböse gewesen, also Preise richten sich nach der Nachfrage und dem Angebot, irgendwann folgt der Börsencrash und alles ist in Aufruhr. Nebenbei ist das Personal unaufmerksam und es wirkte gestresst. Der Börsencrash kommt und man wird vom Personal mit der Erwartung der nächsten Bestellung angeplfaumt. Nö, so gefällt es mir ganz und gar nicht, vor allem sind die Preise der Speisen recht hoch. Da gibt es besseres und zumindest das nächste Bier gibt es dann in der StäV.

A fine place to go for a beer, the food is acceptable German pub food but nothing special. It’s the beer that is the star at this joint and the fun atmosphere.

Beste Bierhandel in Berlin? Vielleicht nicht — aber es muss in der Nähe sein.
Am frühen Abend ist der Ort ein so /​so restaruant aber im Laufe des Abends um die Ausrichtung Charakter zu einem Ort, wo man eine velskæntet Bier um 06 Uhr morgens kann man ändern, und Sie wissen, dass Sie nie, wenn Sie benötigen. Es gibt auch eine voll ausgestattete Bar, so das Unternehmen nicht trinkt Bier, natürlich sind sie vorhanden sind, kann wahrscheinlich eine mehr als Durst.

I love this spot. Yes, it’s a tourist attraction with it being located in walking distance to the Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust Memorial, but it’s also fun for locals and anyone that enjoys a hearty German meal and some good beer.
They’ve got 17 beers on tap, one more delicious than the next. I felt right at home again with my Berliner pint in my hand. French fries are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside served with lots of mayo on the side (yes, us Germans like mayo with our «pommes»). I also had the flatbread pizza topped with curry chicken and pineapple — super yummy. Had it not been so big and hadn’t I filled half my body with beer, I would have ordered another flatbread (the meat combo one sounded terrific). My brother and I also split the herring filets in cream sauce with apples and onion over steamed dill potatoes — another winner that did justice to my childhood memories of this German dish.
Every evening after 5pm the Berliner Republik has a beer «stock market». Beer prices change with demand and consumption, which could also lead to a «beer market crash». Pay attention to the changing prices on the TVs and make sure you snag your waiter at the right moment to profit from some low brew prices. Fun and entertaining whether you’re in a group or looking to make some friends! Drunkenness is guaranteed!

Our first dinner here in Berlin was a great experience.
Our server was super cool and friendly.
We got some good German Bier, a wiener schnitzel, and pork knuckles. Admittedly, I didn’t like the knuckles, but we loved the ambiance of the place! This is definitely a great place to hang out, drink, and eat with a group of people.

This restaurant/​café/​kneipe is sat upon the banks of the river Spree. It’s a really excellent place to get a real sense of Berliner culture. It has an incredible selection of beers and after 6pm operates a bizarre system where the price of each beer changes depending on what is selling well. A bit like a beer stock market. The menu offers meals from around 3 – 15 Euros, which is great value for the hearty, tasty, truly Berlin-​y food. I had a potato soup and a local beer and it came to seven Euros. The waitress was really helpful, bringing me an English menu and was generally very efficient and friendly. Wunderbar.
