My wife and I were on the prowl for some delicious German food on our last night in Berlin when we found this place. I had the beef goulash with Spätzle and my wife had the Spätzle with cheese and a side salad. We both really enjoyed our meals but I regret not trying the pork knuckle… It looked amazing. If you’re in the area, try this place for a good meal and a great beer.

What do you do when you go to another country and your hungry but you can’t understand their menu? You look at what everyone else and make your decision from there. So this place actually had an English menu for folks like me. But the decision was easy because pretty much everybody had a beer on their table and this dish in front of them… Crisp pork knuckle — this was my first meal in Germany and my first pork knuckle to set standards by. I’m going to say overall this was the best I’d had. The skin was nice and crisp but the meat was tender and easy to pull off the bone. Pretzel — my mom was feeling the need to eat a wa fresh pretzel. I mean come on we were in Germany. There was nothing to special to write about and actually it was pretty hard.

Imagine the Hofbrauhaus, except a little more timid and classy. Their beer isn’t as good as I had hoped. Being a vegetarian, I once again got the spaztle. Not a bad dish. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, but I wouldn’t avoid it.

Food as great. Service a bit slow. Highly recommend if you want to taste real German food. Had white sausages that melted in your mouth. The schnitzel was fantastic. The beer was very tasty. Will go back again.

Decidedly snarky service and middling bavarian fare. If not for it’s location(and tasty Augustiner beer) it would be even less enjoyable. We split the two different large plates, which were kinda meh. The pork knuckle though is pretty good and should be ordered.

I cannot say I was impressed. My girlfriend and I tried two different types of sausage. One was a standard hot dog and one was grayish and okay at best. I found this place to be very overpriced, and we were told when we sat down that service was not included(well ok then!) The best parts were the beer and view of the opera house.

i quickly stopped by this place before going out. went in and asked how long ordering and eating would take. waiter said it would be fairly fast. indeed he was. i ordered a sausage plate and the apple strudel. came within 5 – 8 min(very surprised). sausage: DELICIOUSS. the mashed potatoes and the sauerkraut were on point. apple strudel: AMAZING. it was perfect and warm. halfway through eating i dropped my knife, and a waitress promptly replaced it. dayummm

Food was great, nice location too esp on a summer day to sit outside and enjoy :) The waiter was quite nice with a sense of humour and brought us English menus right away. We loved the food(and went into a bit of a food coma afterwards)!!

This place felt like a giant tourist trap with lots of character but no substance. The food was ok but the service was lousy and the waitress we had just seemed very unhappy. The beer was good and food was ok, I had the giant deep fried pork knuckle which was not bad but had better before on my trip, it was deep fried but it just lacked that little bit of flavor. I don’t know maybe the whole service thing just soured my taste for this restaurant.

It’s ok to say the least. It’s a Munich bierhaus in the centre of Berlin that lacks the Bavarian charm and hospitality. It’s a tourist attraction in my opinion but does serve good beer. They open kegs once or twice a week so you can get fresh beer after 6pm. It’s huge and most of the menus at our table were in English. Most of the waiters were in traditional Bavarian costumes and were friendly enough, well, as friendly as it gets in Berlin ;-)) It was quite busy when we walked in and there is plenty of outdoor seating for warm days. It’s not a bad stop for a beer and some food if you happen to be in the area. A piece of Bavaria in Berlin ;-))

Our tour guide recommended the(Barvarian) Augustiner restaurant and we were very pleased with the food and service. English menus are availsble. We started out with the Augustiner ‘Hell’ beer, but switched to their darker ‘Dunkel’ beer which we liked much better. For dinner I had a two boiled sausages(if you like bratwurst you’ll love these) with pretzel and sweet mustard. The Major had the Original crisp pork knuckle and loved it. It was very moist. This place gets very busy after 7 pm so make a reservation if you want to sit downstairs. We had no reservation and sat upstairs.

Great find! I went with a big group, of varying degrees of sophistication of palate, and everyone enjoyed their meal thoroughly, from the snobbiest foodie(me haha) to the most picky simpleton(sorry Soh). All the traditional German meals hit the spot. Chicken, beef and sausage — all phenomenal. Also, charming décor and atmosphere really helped. I felt very«German» which might be silly, but truly added to the experience. And the beers were phenomenal; we had all sorts — Dunkels and amber and pilsners — and were never let down. Highly recommend.

Great traditional German food and beers in an attractive setting. Much nicer than the Haufbrauhaus. Service is super fast. My plate of sausages and sauerkraut was super delicious and reasonably priced. Super clean and orderly space. Excellent lunch.

A touch of Munich in Berlin. Pretty typical beer house serving food food and better bear. Sit outside and enjoy some people watching or dine inside. Staff friendly and service is great. Well worth a visit so much so we came here twice for drinks and some lunch on our last day.

Great Munich style beer hall at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. Staff are v pleasant. Good fresh out of the oven pretzels and they serve good Riesling and fab beer! I tried the Neurenburger sausage on my last day in Berlin — served with mashed potato and sauerkraut. All v good. Definitely something you should experience in Berlin.

Located in one of the nicer areas of Berlin — Mitte, this Brewery-esque type of place is the perfect place to come for a good, casual meal with a group. It has the perfect ambiance with long wooden tables as well large dining halls to give you the overall feel of being at a Brewery. When the weather allows for it, there are a substantial amount of outdoor seats that could also make for a better time. Getting to the service, the wait staff was nice and accommodating the couple of times that we ended up popping in here(once for lunch and once for a late night pretzel and beer snack). For food, we ordered an array of pretzels, crisp pork knuckle with cabbage, grilled augustiner sausages with mashed potatoes, and some other potatoes and dumplings off the menu. I would highly recommend coming in for the in house beer, pretzels and the crisp pork knuckle that was cooked to perfection. Don’t leave this place without giving that trifecta a shot. In regards to prices, everything was very respectable. After litters of beer and endless pretzels, this place probably ends up being about 30/euro a person if you are ordering food and drinks. Well worth it. Buon appetito.

I found this place on trip advisory and thought we’d check it out. While it was good, it wasn’t fantastic, but it didn’t have to be to convince me to go a 2nd time. We had one combination dinner one night and decided to go back a second night because we wanted be sure we had enough traditional german food while in Berlin. This place won’t disappoint. Service can be a bit gruff but you eating there, not blowing the servers so get over it if you don’t like that. Just enjoy the german food and enjoy yourself!

I should of went somewhere different, but I can’t help myself. I like to go where I know the food is good. I been to Augustiner in Munich and wasn’t disappointed so I had to stick with what I know on this trip. I did get the Beef Goulash with the Swabian egg noodle & this time I wasn’t buzzed so I could taste my food. ITWASAMAZING!!! Sadly I came here alone but sat near the bar. But gosh darn it come in even if you are alone, the beer & the food is to die for :-)
