Sehr gutes Österreichisches Restaurant mit den vielleicht besten Schnitzel der Stadt.

Ambiente: cool, modern, trotzdem gemütlich.
Service: unaufdringlich, kompetent, aufmerksam
Vorvorspeise: sehr, sehr gutes Brot mit Kräuterquark. Eine zweite Portion davon wurde ohne Zögern gebracht. Daaaanke dafür!
Vorspeise: Maultaschen mit geschmolzen Zwiebeln und Salat, gut, geschmacklich echt ok. Größe vorspeisengerecht.
Hauptspeise: Entrecôte mit Gemüse und gnocchi, sehr gut, ein bisschen dünn das Entrecôte. Geschmacklich sehr gut, die reduzierte Soße dazu großartig. Ohne Vorspeise aber zu wenig. Dafür 1 Stern Abzug, weil man auch von einem Hauptgericht satt werden können muss.
Preis/​Leistung: eingerechnet dass man in Mitte sitzt, das Restaurant auch von Touristen frequentiert wird und das Ambiente stylish ist, das Publikum entsprechend, geht der Preis gerade noch Ordnung. 15−20% weniger würden dem Gesamtangebot aber noch gerechter.
Wiederkommen? Wenn es das Schicksal so will und weil der Service echt gut war. ;) Drei Sterne mit einer deutlichen Tendenz zu Vieren.

Dinner on a Sunday night in Berlin can be tricky. Lots of places are closed, so make sure to check before you head out. We went to Alpenstueck with a couple of friends and had a good time, with a few glitches in service.
We arrived and ordered a bottle of wine while we were deciding on food, plus a bottle of tap water. To be completely honest, I’d had way too much to drink the night before, so really felt dehydrated. I hate paying for water to be bottled and shipped around the world when I’m somewhere with perfectly good tap water, so had no qualms about asking for this. (yes, this is a bugbear of mine, but I don’t think it’s particularly crazy). The host accepted the wine order but said we had to order a bottle of water because «they didn’t have any vessels to put the tap water into.» (not kidding). We were with a native German speaker, and an English person who lives in Berlin and speaks fluent German, so it wasn’t a lost in translation moment.
We ordered starters and mains each, and again asked for a round of tap water for the table to go along with our wine. The waiter gave the same line, but we indicated the 750ml mineral water bottle which we’d just finished in under 5 minutes and offered it as a vessel which seemed capable of putting tap water into. He finally understood that we weren’t kidding, and brought out a wine carafe of water. .2L carafe. Americans, this is less than a large glass of wine. For four people. And was sniffy about it.
The native German speaker asked him about it, and was told that it was «the norm» in Berlin, even though it wasn’t something we’d experienced anywhere else.
Our starters came, and were very good. I had a jerusalem artichoke (sunchoke) soup, one person had a goat-​cheese salad, and two people had rustic meat ravioli. There was a full vegetarian menu option available, and plenty of veg options to order as well.
But we were still thirsty. We asked for more tap water. The English/​German person explained that we weren’t just being cheap, but genuinely wanted tap water, at which time the waiter slightly perked up. He’d been incredibly stiff before, borderline rude, but warmed up to being neutral. And brought a couple of carafes of tap water, and we all just figured we’d drink plenty of water when we got home.
Mains were good. Two of us had the cheese spaetzle, which was a generous portion and very tasty. One person had steak, and another had breaded veal. Everyone was happy.
When the bill came, I was amused to see that one 750ml bottle of water was more than the cost of my starter. Which completely explains why the guy was a PITA about bringing «free» water.
Our food was good, a solid 4 out of 5 stars, but the service was bad to start and only warmed to decent. I would consider going back, but the whole water thing left a bad, money-​grubbing, impression, so we’ll see.

The hotel recommended this restaurant. We loved everything about it!!! It is a small yet fancy place. The atmosphere was perfect. The food was delicious. We had veal goulash and of course, schnitzel :) Our server recommended a deep red wine called Black Print and we loved it. For dessert, we ordered an apple strudel w vanilla sauce. It was yummy. I would definitely come back to this restaurant!

Es gibt anscheinend 2 Eingänge: Einmal zum Abendlichen Restaurant, sowie zur Bäckerei und Mittagsrestaurant.
Da wir dort nur zum Mittagsessen waren, beschränke ich mich auf das Letztere:
Das Design ist sehr schlicht und hell, und das Lokal war praktisch leer.
Die Kellnerin kam sehr schnell und war angemessen freundlich. Wir bestellten die Käsespätzle und Maultaschen, welche beide sehr lecker waren, und von Preis/​Leistung (ca. € 8) wirklich mehr als akzeptabel.
Sehr zu empfehlen ist die angeschlossene Bäckerei, die wirklich leckeres Brot und andere Backwaren anbietet.

Spare, modern space a bit off the beaten path. The waitstaff were very nice and professional. Everything is made on site. The home made bread was excellent. Wines by the glass were good and reasonably priced. I had the Swabian veal ravioli as an appetizer. They were excellent. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the filling was flavorful and it was served with a sort of warm onion compote and a salad. Main courses were very good, overall. My wife loved her kasespaetzle. I had the wiener scnitzel, which was very good (and superior to the iteration of it that I had in Vienna). My daughter ordered monkfish and didn’t love it– the flavor profile was off for her. We were too full for dessert, but had some excellent cappuccino.
Overall, a nice place with a somewhat modern, locavore take on German food.

Das Alpenstück gehört definitiv zu den hochfrequentierten Adressen für süddeutsche Küche und richtet sich meines Erachtens stark an trendbewusste jüngere Gäste.
Verschiedene Gerichte im Alpenstück fand ich bisher mittelmäßig. Zum Beispiel die Panade des Wiener Schnitzels hier war nicht knusprig, was ich zu gehobeneren Preisen zumindest erwartet hätte.
Zudem fühlte ich mich mitten im restlos überfüllten, unglaublich lauten Gastraum weder beim längeren Warten auf meine Bestellung noch beim Essen selbst wirklich wohl.
Die Einrichtung wirkt auf mich unruhig, nicht stimmig und die Platzdichte ist für mein Befinden erheblich zu hoch.
Ohne zu stark ausgeprägtes Trendbewusstsein führt es zumindest mich bei mittelmäßig guter Küche und höhergelegenen Preisen hier nur selten her, da ich für mich deutlich ansprechendere Alternativen in Berlin gefunden habe.

Schlecht besuchtes Restaurant, Begrüßung «haben Sie reserviert?», gestörtes Preis/​Leistungsverhältnis!, der selbst gemachte Kartoffelsalat schmeckt wie aus dem Eimer! Habe 25 Jahre im Schwabenland gelebt, dem Koch kann ich Adressen benennen, wo er leckeren Kartoffelsalat verkosten könnte! Waren unzufrieden.

Apparently the hostess here used to work at Soho House so EVERYONE there recommends it for commission I assume. I decided to try it despite bad Unilocal rating. Let me tell you /​it was BAD beyond belief. Room & ambience are very nondescript. In
fact I viewed the kitchen which was not pretty & the bathroom doors from our table .
Food arrives on a plate that looks like school cafeteria ware. I think the schnitzel was made yesterday. I mean really — 25 euro for old schnitzel & a few boiled potatoes & some over cooked asparagus? Maybe there is some German tradition there that is lost in translation. But I could not eat my dinner because it was tasteless & I felt very ripped off.
We went to Lokal for a a wonderful cheese plate, salad, much better wine & atmosphere laughably for a better price. What a rip off !!!

Das Alpenstück wurde mir von einer Freundin empfohlen. Sogleich bin ich mit Kolleginnen dort hingegangen und war leider etwas enttäuscht. Das Essen (ich hatte Käsespätzle) erschien mir doch mit 15,50 Euro recht kostenintensiv. Auch die Dessert-​Preise finde ich nicht gerade angemessen. Das Essen schmeckt zwar sehr gut, aber ist für die Preise dort nicht herausragend. Meine Kollegen hatten u.a. Wiener Schnitzel und Strudel; waren aber ebenfalls meiner Meinung. Das Ambiente ist sehr gemütlich und geschmackvoll. Gestört hat uns allerdings der ständige Versuch des Kellners, uns mit Verkaufsförderungsmaßnahmen (ständiges Nachfragen, ob wir noch etwas wünschen — auch, wenn wir mitten im Gespräch waren) zu beglücken. Aufmerksamkeit ist eine Sache, aber wenn dann die Servicekraft bis zu 5x nachfragt, dann nervt das. Meiner Meinung nach kann man in Berlin günstiger und ebenso lecker alpenländische Küche geniessen.

First of all service was great! All tables were reserved, but the waitress got us a table. Secondly, we were a little late for breakfast (it was lunch time already) and the staff was kind enough to still make us breakfast.
Bread was freshly made, tasted great. Orange juice was sweet and fresh. Atmosphere there was lovely too. The only thing missing was wifi.

Wir waren letzten Samstag im Alpenstück und haben großartig gegessen. Der Wein (Gutedel) war hervorragend, und das Essen (Kalbsmaultaschen, Hüftsteak vom Weideochsen) perfekt. Ein großes Lob auch für den Nachtisch (Spekulatius– Schokoladenmousse), der war wirklich herausragend! Einen Stern Abzug gibt’s leider für den leicht überforderten Service und das 2-​Eurostück große Loch in der Tischdecke.

Das war ja mal eine ganz positive Überraschung! Immer, wenn ich vom Schwimmbad komme, guck ich hier durchs Fenster und denke, da müsste man mal rein. Jetzt haben wir’s getan, zu zweit, an einem Abend unter der Woche.

Essen: klasse. Schnitzel war gut, Käsespätzle waren gut, Sellerie-​Apfel-​Suppe war exellent, Feldsalat mit Ziegenkäse lecker
Wir trinken keinen Wein, deshalb hatten wir österreichisches Mineralwasser. Das kam in einer Glasflasche. (nicht mehr selbstverständlich in Berlin, aber sehr gewünscht von Wassertrinkern)
Die Bedienung fragte zweimal, ob wir noch etwas anderes wollten. Das fanden wir ein bisschen zu viel. Wir hätten schon bestellt, wenn wir gewollt hätten.
Ansonsten prima. Sogar die Teller waren gewärmt, das Essen kam ziemlich schnell und war richtig heiß.
Die Auswahl auf der Karte — Standards und zwei Menüs — fand ich ausreichend. Einzig eine klare Suppe hätte meinen Begleiter noch glücklicher gemacht.
Alles in allem: Empfehlung.

ich war sehr enttäuscht. Eine Hektik wie in einer Bahnhofshalle. Die Kellner rennen kreuz und quer. Dabei ist die Bedienung unpersönlich bis arraogant, informiert überhaupt nicht, auch nicht über Preisunterschiede von deklarierten Vorspeisen und nicht ausgepreisten gleichen Hauptspeisen. Ist es Täuschung? Ist das Masche?
Ich jedenfalls werde dieses Restaurant nicht noch einmal betreten.

A really good restaurant that offers some great Austrian food in Berlin. So far the best Austrian food I have tested in Berlin…
We went there for dinner. The staff was really nice. The place itself is very minimalistic, I find it nice, some might argue that it lacks special charme. At the start of the meal you get the usual bread with butter, which in this case comes from the own bakery. I mention this because the bread was excellent. Our food was also very good. We had a Wiener Schnitzel which was moist and had a nice butter taste and the Käsespätzle which were really great. The Spätzle were especially good as they use a mix of 4 cheeses which gave them a nice creamy texture. I certainly will go back there.

Fazit: Käse-​spätzle so lecker wie erwartet. Allgauer Bergkäse, wenn ich mich nicht irre. Man liebt Käse (natürlich), man liebt kremiges Trostessen, man liebt scandinavisches Dekor (im Bavarisches/​Österreichisch Restaurant? denk mal nicht daran, ist doch wunderschön) — geh denn mal einfach hin! 7,90 € zahlt einen heissen Teller volle Spätzle, dazu Salat. Wer isst aber Salat, wenn so viele Süssigkeiten zum Nachtisch liegen? 10 Leckerein in Vitrine + 8 da neben + 8 Arten Brot = mehr leider als ich Magen habe. Mist! Ich musse also noch einen Besuch machen, zur Kaffee-​Kuchen-​Zeit, ich glaube. Die Bäckerei/​Frühstück-​/​Mittagessen-​Restaurant liegt dem Abendessen-​Restaurant gegenüber: mach nicht so wie ich, die lange durch den Fenstern des letzteres geschaut habe, bevor ich den Zettel gelesen habe: Frühstück und Café gibt’s gegenüber… Na denn, jetzt, dass ich Bescheid weiss, komme ich sicher zurück!

Ich bin begeistert. Gestern war ich mit einer Freundin da. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und bekamen einen schönen Tisch obwohl eine Stunde zu spät. Wir bekamen rasch die Karte und super fix unsere Getränkebestellung. Als ich der Bedienung sagte, ich esse vegan war sie sofort dazu bereit mit der Küche Rücksprache zu halten. Und es hat mich umgehauen. Mein Hauptgericht war eine Gemüsetürmchen mit Graupen und Pilzen. Deftig mit leichter Süße. Mir hat es so gut geschmeckt und es sah toll aus.Hammer. Wir hatten einen tollen Abend.
Tolle Bedienung, TOP Küche, sehr schöné Location.

Decent service, ok food. Not the best but not the worst restaurant either. I’m not sure about the price here since I was fortunate enough not having to pay for the whole thing. All in all, I would recommend this place if it’s dirt cheap. If not then I’d choose any restaurant near Savignyplatz instead Yes, it’s worth the travel!

Good service, excellent atmosphere/​décor, but the food was only okay given the price. The price didn’t bother me but I actually had better schnitzel and fish at places nearby for 50−75% of the price here. Mind you, those places were less fancy but the food was every bit as good or better.
I found the monkfish to be oversalted here. The schnitzel was a bit cooked too well for my taste. The soup and salad were good.
The best thing was the vanilla dessert.

HINWEIS: Diesen Beitrag hatte ich für die «Bäckerei Alpenstück» geschrieben (müsste noch zu Qype-​Zeiten gewesen sein). Ins «Restaurant Alpenstück» möchte ich schon lange einmal gehen, war dort aber bisher noch nie! Mein Beitrag ist wohl aus Versehen falsch zugeordnet worden.
Ich gehe hier gerne zum täglich wechselnden (aber irgendwann wiederkehrenden) Mittagstisch hin. Über den Service möchte ich mich hier weniger auslassen es kommt schon vor, dass dieser etwas ausgelastet und/​oder genervt erscheint. Dennoch ist die Einrichtung sehr gemütlich, die Gerichte sind wirklich gute deutsche Küche die Portionen nicht zu groß. Wer sich nach dem Mittagessen richtig wohl fühlen will und dennoch kein halbes Rind essen muss, um satt zu werden, der kommt hier durchaus auf seine Kosten. Die Preise sind der Qualität angemessen. Außerdem ist die Lage angenehm ruhig auch wenn man draußen sitzt. Sitzt man drinnen, sollte man sich darauf einstellen, dass man eventuell mit anderen Leuten an einem (großen) Tisch sitzen muss. Außerdem bekommt man hier frische Backwaren aus eigener Herstellung (keine vorgefertigte Fabrikware).

Ever had a free continental breakfast at a discount hotel? Same thing here but it’s 30 Euro.
A complete disappointment. While the décor is trendy, the staff is scattered, the food is below mediocre, and the prices are ridiculously high.
My girlfriend and I ordered breakfast (Alpenfrühstück 1 & 3) and coffee at about 10:00 AM on a Saturday. Not busy.
The server brought bread and nothing else (no butter, no jam, no coffee) and disappeared for 10 minutes. The sliced bread and rolls were at least a day old — felt store-​bought.
When she showed up with breakfast it was a few slices of thin ham, 8 slices of salami, 4 cheese slices, about a tablespoon of quark, half an apple, ¹⁄₃ of a kiwi and 1 section of orange.
The fruit was dried out like it had been cut the night before and left sitting.
That was 8.90 Euro.
For the above with an extra tablespoon of goat cheese and 4 more slices of hard cheese, that’s 11.90 Euro
Look: If the quality of the cheese or meat was spectacular, no problem. However, the quality of all the food was discount supermarket or worse. The cheese: bland. The meats: flavorless. It sucked.
The server disappeared and never came back. We had to go to the bakery counter to get our bill (30 Euro — for above plus 2 coffees and one orange juice) and pay. Tipped accordingly.
Owners need to wake up, this place is dying.

Alles ist superfrisch zubereitet, auf den Punkt genau gekocht. Preise im oberen Mittelfeld. Den Wein habe ich nicht probiert, weiß also nicht, ob die Preise angemessen sind. Vom Ambiente her eignet sich das Restaurant auch für Familienfeiern. Am Wochenende sollte man vorbestellen.

Wir hatten einen großen Tisch mit über 10 Personen. Der Service war zuvorkommend und freundlich, Einrichtung schlicht und stylish, aber sehr gemütlich. Die Vorspeisensalate waren sehr gut, das Brot unheimlich lecker und knusprig. Als Hauptspeise gab es jede Menge Schnitzel und Käsespätzle, das Schnitzel war lecker, aber nicht herausragend. Die Käsespätzle waren dafür spitze! Leider kam das Essen zeitlich sehr versetzt.
Ein Punkt Abzug für das Preisleistungsverhältnis, in dieser Preisklasse muss mehr drin sein!

I had dinner at Alpenstueck on a Sunday night. The staff was
welcoming and friendly. As a starter I had goat’s cheese salad, a very fresh
and tasty dish. As a main course I had the potato quiche with lamb’s lettuce:
the potato quiche tasted everything but freshly made, just dry. It rather
reminded me of badly cooked Spanish omelette. I finished off with an espresso
and decided not to eat there anymore. When my dessert was served it was so
excellent I instantly forgot about my very mediocre main course: rhubarb
compote with poached egg whites and ginger. I will definitely eat there again;
hopefully next time the chef is in a better mood for main courses.

Der Mittagstisch ist ganz lecker, das Angebot stimmt aber nicht mit den Angaben auf ihrer Homepage überein und müsste auch öfter mal gewechselt werden.
Mir schmeckt das Brot, das mit traditionellen bayrischen Brotgewürzen zubereitet wird, sehr gut. Deshalb gehe ich trotz des unterirdischen Services ab und zu mal hin. Kann mir allerdings auch nicht erklären, warum sich an der Servicesituation nichts ändert. Keiner der Angestellten dort, sollte in einem Serviceberuf tätig sein! Jetzt habe ich 3x hintereinander das Wort SERVICE benutzt einfach, weil es ihn hier leider nicht gibt!

Die lange Schlange am Heiligen Abend bis zur Tür scheint für ein gefragtes Angebot zu sprechen, auch das Interior gefällt mir auf Anhieb gut und lädt zum entspannten Verweilen ein.
Auch wenn ich nur Brötchen mitgenommen habe, hat mich ganz sicher der gekaufte Zimtstern auf die Hand und der nette Service am Weihnachtsmorgen überzeugt.
Die Vinschgauer daheim dagegen eher mittelmäßig mit Steigerungspotenzial.*

Ich fand es sehr Angenehm im Alpenstück. Wir haten einen wunderschönen Abend und gutes Essen!
Meiner Familie hat es auch sehr gut Gefallen und wir werden hier bestimmt öfter Landen.

This place was amazing. Charming interior, delicious pastries. We had this pastry that was filled with custard and covered with powdered sugar. I was hoping this was what the other Unilocaler had recommended (wind cloud), but it doesn’t matter because it was ridiculously delicious and what I would imagine a wind cloud would taste like, if such a thing existed.
We also had the kasespatzle which is like a german version of macaroni and cheese, and it was delicious. Everything looked so good, and I am really sad that this place does not exist in Pasadena so that I can try it all! Maybe I just need to move to Berlin to accomplish my goal.
BTW, there are bees everywhere which initially scared the crap out of me, but eventually I got used to it. If I was a bee, I would be in this store too.

After subsisting on nothing but sausage, schnitzel and beer during our visit to Berlin, the «Fitness Breakfast» at Bäckerei Alpenstueck was a welcome departure.
A muesli with delicious strawberries and toast with some sort of light, whipped scallion cream-​cheese esque thing, it had us feeling a little less disgusting by the time we left. This cute, friendly little spot is also where we discovered that fruit is just so much better in Europe. The strawberries may be smaller, but they tasted like actual fruit rather than water.
I’d do it again.

Austrian-​German food — dinner was outstanding. You will enjoy!

Mir hat es gut gefallen. Das Ambiente ist Mitte (trotz der vielen Touris aus Schweden), die Kässpätzle waren lecker, der Salat mit Ziegenkäse toll. Das Zimt-​Crème-​Brulee hatte ich schon besser, aber beim Nachtisch bin ich auch wirklich extrem ambitioniert.
Am Wochenende sollte unbedingt ein Tisch reserviert und die Haare gekämmt sein. Wenn ich ausländischen Besuch habe, dem ich Berlin und deutsches Essen präsentieren will, dann ist das Alpenstück meine erste Wahl.

Das Essen war tadellos, hat aber seinen Preis: Kleines Stück Forelle mit etwas Beilagen drum rum für 21,50. Freundlicher Service, klasse Weinauswahl.
Meine Begleitung nannte es «Mensa-​Atmosphäre», und das trifft es ganz gut. Motto: «Wie bekomme ich die maximale Anzahl von Tischen in den Raum?»
Man sitzt dem Nachbarn halb auf dem Schoß, Privatgespräche sind schwerlich möglich, es ist schon bei halb vollem Laden sehr laut.
Unter die Touris mischt sich dann auch noch das Mitte-​Publikum, das gern die Kinder kreischen lässt und den Hund nicht anleint.
Sorry, aber in diesem Fall ist «nett» mal wieder die kleine Schwester von sch**. Denke, der Inhaber kann diesen Spruch ob der vermuteten goldenen Nase verkraften ;-)

We had a great time when we went with an exceptionally large party. They even accommodated the vegetarians! I love their spin on German Cuisine — though still a bit heavy handed, it is far more tasty than many of the more traditional joints we visit. Service is kind, if a bit tentative at times. Good drink list, too.

I got the pig… Amazing food. A+…

It pains me to write this review. Alpenstück was, until recently, my go-​to restaurant for a solid meal and *sigh* my favorite Wiener Schnitzel-​joint in Berlin. While still a loyal customer, I brought many friends there to gorge on Schnitzel and Muskateller.
…until my last visit. It started with the Schnitzel, which had gradually become thicker since my first visit. And then the coating, which used to my thin and crispy, was now thick and soggy (again, a trend I had begun noticing over my last few visits). A few grease puddles in the middle and it was the first time I didn’t finish the whole thing.
And then we got the bill. The price has apparently gone up on water (€ 7,50 for ¾ L). I know that expensive water is all the rage in good restaurants in Berlin, but this one cost more than a decent bottle of wine! But the kicker was that a couple extra Euro were tacked on for the side of Preiselbeeren that I always order. Now I am more than happy to pay a premium for good quality food and excellent service, but that includes not being nickel-​and-​dimed for condiments. To me, this is one major difference between fast-​food and fine eating establishments.
No one is more sorry than I am to be so gravely disappointed by this restaurant. One is left with the feeling that getting written up in a couple of good Berlin guidebooks is grounds for losing tracks of quality and focusing on the tourists, who couldn’t come back for another visit even if they wanted to.

I don’t understand the appeal of this place.
The smoked duck appetizer is good.
The wiener schnitzel was okay.
The wild boar leg was horrible and I couldn’t even finish. Couldn’t get the gaming taste out of my mouth.
The apple strudel was meh.
Service was mediocre.
The décor is definitely pleasant, but the area it’s in is so quiet, it’s almost scary. Would I go back? No way.

Second time here. Don’t remember what I had last time. This time had the salad with salmon. The English translation, I think, was «stained». Not sure what that means and I forget das deutsches Wort, so can’t look it up. The stained salmon was good, fresh greens, standard vinegarette. My appetizer was Kalbstafelspitz (spelling?) — light thinly sliced meat. My better half had grilled Ziegenkaese with Thymian und Honig dressing. I would get this next time instead. And for her main, she ordered the Wienerschnitzel, as did 80% of the restaurant. The cucumber salad side was very good, almost as good as Grandma’s. The potato salad was disappointing. Sarah Wiener’s is much better, but then again they use bacon, the magic ingredient.
Dessert was Champagne mousse. Wow!
Tried an Obstbrand, somethin’ von Spätburgunder. Enjoyable but definitely not an Islay single malt. Must do more research into Obstbraenden.
Décor is minimal and white. Friendly helpful Bedienung. The menus were a bit rattier than I would expect for such a nice place. And it does get quite loud in there.

Clean but quirky décor and a fab menu of modern takes on German food. I couldn’t resist the wiener schnitzel, and mm… it was delicious. For me, high-​quality schnitzel is all about the accoutrements (kartoffelsalat, etc) and here they (and the schnitzel itself) were light, fresh, and well done.
It’s cool how the kitchen is open. When I was there, they gave me a flyer for cooking classes, too… really wish I’d been able to take advantage of it.
I was with some relatives who don’t speak German and the staff were very courteous and spoke English with them, though the service was a tad slow.
It is expensive, but the perfect place for a special occasion meal.

Als Münchener in Berlin freue ich mich über so ein Lokal und bin ein wenig neidisch auf die Hauptstadt. Wo ich mich den Kritikern anschliesse ist die Lautstärke: für ein gemütliches tête-​à-​tête sicher nicht das richtige Lokal. Was den Service angeht: keine Klagen, im Gegenteil, sehr freundlich und kompetent. Die Speisekarte liess einem das Herz aufgehen, die Qualität der Speisen war gut, wenngleich nicht sensationell. Die Preise sind für Münchener Niveau ok.
Also, ich würd wieder hingehen (wenn es nicht soviel andere tolle Sachen gäbe in der Hauptstadt)!

Excellent and fairly stylish German restaurant in Mitte, just around the corner from Nordbanhof. The menu is not extensive, 4 starters and 5 mains to choose from, consisting of various German classics — some of which you will have heard of, and others you may not.
I opted for the cheek of pork with bulgar wheat to start, and followed it up with an excellent rabbit dish, all washed down with a decent dry riesling.
Starters are priced at EUR6−8, and mains at EUR14−17, and for the quality of the food, it’s reasonable.
Service could be a little better, so I’ll save that 5^th star for a repeat visit.
