It was honestly… quite bad, but this place is so highly praised that I’m wondering whether it’s just me. First of all the inside smells somewhat of piss, however maybe it’s just me, regardless of the funny smell, it’s nicely decorated, although you’ll most likely sit outside since there aren’t many seats inside. For starters I tried the lemongrass soup, which basically tastes like extremely spicy, very citrusy fish stock water. Let alone finish it, I could only take a couple sips. The lemon and spice overpowers any other flavour. But let’s just say maybe it’s just me, and it doesn’t suit my palate. I then ordered simple kappa, since I always order kappa roll anywhere I go and how good the kappa is is a huge tell to how good they’ll be with other sushi. The most important part of sushi is rice, nothing else matters, you first have to get the rice right, it can’t be too warm, or too cold, or too sticky or too salty or too bland, it just has to have the right texture for you to be enjoy the other flavours and ingredients. And the kappa was mediocre. The rice was too sticky and bland, and the cucumber inside too watery. So I didn’t order any of their special rolls, for I can’t see how good they can be with other rolls when they can’t even get the most basic sushi right. But the thing that didn’t make me think that maybe it was just me was them immediately removing the plate without even asking me whether I was finished with the plate, which I wasn’t for there was still ginger on it. I’m just stumped, for all intents and purposes this seems like a very overrated place, but maybe, it’s just me…
