I’ve heard so much about the tequila drinks here so we decided to have a try. It’s true! Fantastic drinks, I don’t remember the name(Devi-something) but it has habanero in it which I loved! We had guacamole for starter, a perfect one! Yum! I tried a vegetarian main course with zucchini and portobello with sweet potato purée. Not impressed. It tasted like nothing? They had lime next to it which added some taste to it but not much! So, don’t go here for the food! The service was questionable. I think 5 – 6 people helped us during our dinner. We had to ask more than once for help. They were all very nice though, smiles everywhere. So, don’t go here for dinner. Go for the drinks and the guacamole, it’s worth it!

Amazing place! First, the atmosphere is prohibition era chic, dark and moody. Not at all mexican style but very avant guard retro second, service was perfect! I never felt like i had to wait for anything, never looked around for anyone. She was on top of it! Third, the food was delicious and unusual! Nothing typical on the menu! I ordered a fish in green mole & lobster guacamole. Amazing! Fourth, the drink selection made it hard to pick but i settled on a ramos gin fizz. I had maybe 6! Well done! Definitely going back!

It doesn’t look so appealing from outside but it’s a true great address if you are a mexican food lover. Tasty food, great service, best margarita I drank for a while, nice decoration.

Being from Los Angeles, where Mexican food is plentiful, we were skeptical of trying Mexican food in Sweden. We needn’t have been! Puta Madre was a real gem: Authentic, tasty gourmet Mexican food, served by very kind and efficient servers. If you know«Border Grill» in the US, Puta Madre offers a similar spin of surprising, gourmet twists on familiar Mexican staples, but in an even more homey and unpretentious way. The tequila list is amazing and will give people who have a heard time making decisions palpitations. Best of all were the servers, who were lively, and fun, while being traditional, respectful and polite at the same time… a fine line to walk when your establishment is modeled after a 1920’s bordello! It never had the feel of those fake-fun places where the servers sing, or write their name in crayon on your placemat.(You know what I mean…) I rarely visit the same place twice when I travel: There is so much fun in finding new places, but if I’m back in Gothenburg, I would definitely consider visiting Puta Madre again. Yes, like every other place in Europe, it seemed a little pricy for what we got, but considering tipping is «optional» in Sweden, it seems a lot more reasonable, considering.(We still tipped about 8%.)

We went here with my parents for dinner. Wow! The atmosphere, décor, music, employees and even the menu were 100% in accordance to the theme, a 1920s brothel(?). The starters were excellent. Tortilla chips and guacamole can’t really go wrong, and the lobster-ceviche was excellent, even though I had hoped for a larger portion when we paid 170SEK. I don’t remember what everyone had as main plates, but the tortes with mushrooms were really tasty. The main plates were large, you will be full! On the downside, we had to wait for a while, and the prices are a bit high. In addition there was a constant draft where we sat, so we had to put on big sweaters and scarves.

This is a fun place, frequented by the more opulent and trendy Gothenberg people. A mix of middle class and people wanting to schmooze potential business deals. The theme is 1920’s Western glamour with Mexican food. The theme is so well done, it has a realy authentic feel, even the more made up things like the menus being like proper newspapers of the period. T he waitresses and waiters are the usual young good looking well spoken people that makes this place a trendy place. The food is good, I really liked it, however the courses are not big, some of the main courses are more like diet food! I did not have a starter and so cannot say if it would have been big or small, but I was not hugely hungry when I arrived and later on needed to go to McDonalds for chips. This is especially relevant considering how cold Sweden can be so people need to eat more so that their bodies can generate heat. A great fun experience, but do not expect a huge feast.

Wow, what a place. I was immediately enchanted by this place as soon as I walked in. We were not greeted by some angry door man who hates his job. Instead, the door was opened for us by a smiling, friendly handsome man that welcomed us in. It was a Saturday night at 12. I, being used to Oslo bars and such, was convinced there was no way we would find a place to sit, but we turned a corner and right in front of us was an empty table with room for the four of us. Now I was convinced this place was some sort of heaven. The interior was enough for my ADD to take hold. While the other three were lost in conversation, I was lost in staring at the draped ceilings and décor as well as the clothes of the people working there. The music fit the theme of the place and at least had the sound of coming from a record player. It was just the right volume as well, so that one could hear the music, but also hear the person talking to them from across the table without having to shout. I am not sure which era they were trying to capture, but it is somewhere within the 1920s to 1940s. Either way, I was in love. My love for this place grew even stronger when I tried their passion mojito. I am not sure what was in it, but it definitely brought out my passion for mojitos. In Oslo, when one orders a mojito and the bar is packed, you will get an eye roll, a sigh, and possibly even be denied even though it’s on the menu. Here, the bartender took my order with a smile and a «coming right up». I seriously can’t say enough things about this place to capture how I feel about it. I didn’t want to leave. It was just so warm and cozy and inviting, everything bars in Oslo are not.

Atmosphäre: Puffig, dicke Samtdecken, ausgefallene Tapeten, viel alter Nippes.
