Visited with the other half in our first evening in Göteborg. Arrived around 7pm, and it’s standing room only, even outside — but didn’t have to wait too long for a table. Beers are brewed by their own brewery, and are very tasty(STIGBERGETSBRYGGERI), and very strong, so watch the percentages! Only had the ones on tap, but spied a good selection of bottled beers in the fridge, including alcoholic ginger beer. Food is vegetarian, and very nice. They have a lovely outdoors seated area, with nice, low-key lighting indoors, reminiscent of a student bar — not a criticism, just gives it a well-lived in, hipster feel.

Hagabion is worth a visit! This is a fun place because its been going on for a long time and the crowd varies alot. You can find the cultural ladies in their 60s and the younger students. Its more if a evening place than day because its also a cinema. The food is exciting and their coffe really good! Interiors is great, each table has got its own retro lamp. You can end up in a nice retro couch, in the round bar, on a wooden chair or in worst case not anywhere at all because its crowded. If you have the patience the wait is no longer than 10−30min to get a seat.

For warm summer days and nights this place is really nice. Mostly hipsters, like many places around Järntorget. I am not a hipster and I am a bit older than most here, but i didn’t feel out of place. I might not go here to meet new friends, but for a good beer. Didn’t try the food. Cool unusual selection of draught beer. Many locals that are really good! Indoors is also really cool, it is cramped downstairs, but they have a larger area upstairs that I am not sure always is in use. Of course they do not accept AMEXm but the place rocks anyway!

while visiting, a local introduced us to hagabions. it’s part of one of the few indie movie theatres left. it plays all sorts of international art house films. apparently, the kids work there to watch movies. they are still on their game. it’s true they have anchor and on the day i went they actually were serving libery ale. although i didn’t eat, my pals devoured their tortellini. i’ll deffo be recommending this spot to friends hitting up goteborg in their travels. p. s. for fans of jens lekman, the train to kortadala passes by the spot. :)

Hagabio was one of the first places I ever went to when I moved here to Gothenburg. The food is pretty good but is all vegetarian, which is ok with me since my girlfriend is a vegetarian. Their dishes aren’t all super veggie focused either(they have pastas, soups, sweets, etc). They also have a full bar, but with how expensive liquor is here in Sweden, the majority of people drink beer and wine. Being from San Francisco, I was happy to see they have beer from Anchor brewery from back home. It’s about 60SEK per glass, which is like $ 9-$ 10 a glass. The atmosphere is a bit hipster, since it’s is, after all, an independent movie house. But you won’t feel out of place if you go there afterwork for a beer or head there to hang out with a few friends. In the summer they have a huge outside area which is very popular where you can get both drinks and food. It’s not the most popular or coolest place in town, and I can’t say I’ve ever wanted to see any of the movies they show there, but being it’s one of the first place I went to when I got here, and since it’s fairly close to where I live, I’ll give it a fat 4 stars. If you are a tourist and want to see how the locals do it, check this place out!
