Volt is an «AWE» «MY» «GAWD» type of place. Me and my future boss came in on a cold blustery night and were treated to an amazing culinary experience. Creative? Yes, but what sets Volt apart from the rest is it’s ability to keep you engaged. And trust me, I was so tired and jet lagged that I just about did a nose plant into my soup that the flavors of each course kept my tired body super excited. I am so very happy to be heading back to my adopted hometown of Stockholm and Volt was the perfect place to reintroduce me to the city that has me at my knees. Peace for the world in 2016.

Very innovative food in a upscale casual environment. Every dish surprised me and made me think of the food differently. It was a reasonably priced prix fixed meal. Service was nice(though it seems to be a thing in Scandinavian one star Michelin restaurants for you to get your own silverware out of a box on the table). The cabbage and mussel starter was nice and evokes a non spicy kimchi. The hay bales and infused carrot was delicious and has a good texture. The mackerel was spectacular even if you don’t like fishy fish. The sirloin was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The elderflower with some sort of yogurt or cream was interesting if only for the full elderflower they put directly on top. The raspberry with fennel finisher was really interesting. The menu was certainty challenging and imaginative. The only part I didn’t fully enjoy was the wine pairing. Many of the wines had very unusual finishes or aftertaste on their own though after eating the paired food it did open up. They basically had very strong flavored counter each other which was cool but I wish more of the wine could stand on its own.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Stockholm. The staff is friendly, the food is brilliant and the environment is lovely. I recommend a set menu with wines selected by the staff. I’ve been here two times. The first time was with friends, one«foodie», one wine enthusiast and another who simply enjoys good food and drinks. We were all very happy with the visit. The second time I was there was on a date with my boyfriend and he was very impressed too. To enjoy VOLT you need to be interested in food, not nervous around it, because you are going to try stuff you probably never tried before. Just go there and ENJOY!

Definitely as good as it gets. We’ve had only amazing experiences at Volt. The food, ingredients, flavors, presentation, service, wine selection, atmosphere, everything is just perfect. Many of the ingredients are foraged, and all ingredients are sourced locally. You’ll see familiar things, but you’ll also try things you never imagined you’d eat, and you’ll love every bite! You’ll also leave Volt feeling more connected to the world you live, to the things that grow and inhabit the places just outside of the door. Whenever someone asks me for a restaurant recommendation in Stockholm, I mention Volt first. The smart ones take my advice, and usually contact me right after to let me know how wonderful it was.

We initially wanted to go to a different restaurant, but they had no seating so when we asked the hostess for a recommendation she sent us to Volt. We didn’t know what we were in for nor did we have any expectations. WOW! She led us to the best meal I’d had in a long time. We almost could not find the restaurant because of its discrete sign. When we walked in, we asked if they could take us as walk-ins, since we didn’t have a reservation. The front of house had to ask the chef, and we were granted access. Yes! We chose the 6-course menu with the pairings and then we held on for the ride. They started us out with homegrown tomatoes in a pesto sauce, made to eat with our fingers. Freshest tomatoes I’ve had in a while. The bread was perfect — crisp on the outside; light, fluffy, with the right amount of chewiness on the inside. Next came the Mackerel, cucumber and spring onion — balanced. Each flavor complimented the other and mingled nicely on the palate. The Egg, white asparagus, and whitefish was a beautiful dish. The topside, tarragon, and pine dish was like eating beef noodles — good beef noodles with great flavor and texture. After the meat, they balanced it with beetroot, currants, and butter. The beets were out of this world, done in the cubed baked fashion, but also with a string crispy topping of beets.(I know my description doesn’t do it justice). Following the beets we had the duck, celeriac, and elder — the duck was sublime. It was not gamey, just pure amazing duck. Since we now knew we were on the ride, we opted for the cheese plate with the honeycomb to go with — great addition. ‘Sixth’ course was the yogurt, wood sorrel, buckwheat — which looked like abstract art on a plate, almost too beautiful to eat, but you already get the hint — we ate everything. The wine pairings were flawless, there were wines that not only complimented the dishes, but some extended the flavors so that they accentuated and made the flavors linger on your palate. Others cleansed the palate as necessary for the next bite. Ingenious and innovative wine pairings. Every course and pairing was explained to us without grandeur, but with humility and without excuse. This is what they were offering and we were definitely enjoying. We ordered coffee, and we were handed the ‘best sponge cake you’ll ever have’. He was so right! The food was spot on, the pairings splendid, the ambiance avant-garde(but approachable), and the night memorable. We were so thrilled with the experience we went back to the original restaurant that could not seat us to thank the hostess. This was a great recommendation and a great culinary experience without the pretense.

Have been to Volt twice and loved it both times… with a lot of surprise to the cooking. Great place and will be back.

The restaurant is easy not to notice since the sign on the door is discrete and the restaurant itself is quite small. The atmosphere inside is cosy and the service is personal and efficient. As soon as your seated at your table you will be served a appetizer then you could choose if you d like a set menu or to order from the a la carte menu. We choose the set menu and every dish was great, especially the cod and the pine tree ice cream with roasted almond paste. This restaurant is amazing value for your money and according to my opinion one of the better restaurants in Stockholm. Loved everything about it.

High ambition/cost ratio. The art of culinary concealment; food is hidden on the plate.

We opted for the six course menu with matching wines and it was our first introduction to Nordic cuisine. Our discovery? Clean composition, not simple in the techniques or the way it was put together, but a small number of ingredients, each with a distinct flavour that stood out. The course of crab, sunchoke, butter and elderberries for example: a pop of sweetness from the berry, the salt of the crab, the taste of butter rather than as a condiment and some beautiful jerusalem artichoke. I loved this dish, of fennel with almond, sour cream and lard. A use of milk products that would be unusual in Australia or Asian cuisine, the fennel tasting of fennel, not roasted or buttery, gently cooked some how and on the side: shaved lard. Yes, lard! As an ingredient, not a method of cooking. This is my kind of country. We were happy to receive a menu after the meal which reminded of not only of what we ate, but a list of their partners(ranging from ceramics to herbs, bread, illustration and beekeeping), reflecting their philosophy of local products and sourcing. All in all: what an amazing meal, great matching wine, and an introduction to a fabulous philosophy and style of cooking, in a super-cool atmosphere with impeccable service. Thanks, Volt!

Restaurang Volt is definitely part of the wide array of restaurants in Scandinavia that serve up excellent food with a local touch. The set-up is to select either 3, 5 or 7 dishes from the menu and then combine it with wine/drinks(either from a set menu or your own choices). The food was excellent throughout the meal with the starters being really excellent(on the verge of world class) and the other dishes being great as well. Wines were excellently paired with the food, some were not great on their own but really came to life with the dish they were to go with and really made the experience so much better. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. An extra credit to a restaurant that also goes all the way and has excellent quality coffee and tea as well. Can really recommend the coffee, roasted by a local Swedish micro roastery(really micro since it is one guy running it) and brewed to order.
