We had been exploring Sodermalm when we happened upon this thrift store. When I stumbled upon some puzzles tucked away on one of the book racks. Not your everyday puzzles either. We ended up walking out with 8 new puzzles. Each one being 2000+ pieces of spectacular European scenes. That’s right, we bought 8 puzzles in boxes in Sweden and packed them in our luggage back to the US. We know a good deal when we see it. Total cost: 16 Dollars. Retail on these was 36+ each. Will we be going back on the next visit? Yep. You bet. Everything else was the stand fare and did seem pricey.

I’ll be frank: I’m a total cheapskate. I adore second-hand shopping, looking for that perfect unique item and paying a low price. Thrifting is a hobby of mine and I spend an awful lot of time in vintage stores in Stockholm, particularly Södermalm. But this one is not to my liking. Stockholm Stadsmission is a truly great chain of second-hand stores. There’s one on Hornsgatan which I adore, and another massive one near Odenplan. I would definitely recommend those two above this location. This store is located right by Nytorget in the middle of the hipster Sofo area, and you can really tell in the assortment and prices. A dress at any of the other Stadsmission stores will cost you from 50 to 90SEK, whereas here 90SEK is the absolute cheapest. All you can get for that is a used H&M dress, and in that case, what’s the point? You could get it new at that price, at least on sale. Most items here run from 150 — 300SEK — still a bargain sometimes, but more than what you would normally pay. The selection is also much more vintage than other locations, which makes sense. The residents of the neighbourhood donate their old hipster vintage items, so you end up with very exciting and unique pieces, but if you’re not into raiding your grandma’s closet, you might not like it very much. There are some very fun finds here, such as vintage Christian Dior blouses, and more modern pieces like Tiger of Sweden jeans at a ‘steal’ for 250SEK. It’s not that you won’t find something you like — you probably will, but just one or two things, and they will be more expensive than at other second-hand stores. The store itself is quite small and cramped, unlike the other locations. If you want to do some serious thrifting I would say this one can be skipped — go to the other two instead — but if you’re in the area, it is always fun to check it out anyways!
