Having cycled my way around Djurgarden and back towards Gamla Stan, I wanted to make more use of the bike before I gave it back and so carried on towards Skeppsholmen, the tiny island that lies in between Gamla Stan and Djurgarden. It can only be approached by a narrow one lane bridge that alternates for cars, but has parallel paths either side for walkers and cyclists, although I’d recommend walking with a bike rather than pedalling the couple of hundred metres. Once across, the paths open up with options to go into the centre of the island or by the water’s edge. I was heading for Café Blom, which had been recommended as a good option to consider while visiting the Museum of Modern Art. When I got there, it was quite clear that Café Blom doesn’t open on a Monday — not this one anyway! Without the option of refuelling, I decided against a museum visit, especially as it was a sunny day and there were more than a few exterior displays to take a look at, including an unlikely Picasso. The need for some sort of lunch meant that I decided against a more detailed look at the rest of the island and instead returned to Gamla Stan. Overall, Skeppsholmen is pretty enough, offering new angles on the rest of the city and a number of impressive buildings, but it is definitely not a «must see», more of a «have a look if you’ve got plenty of time».

Very beautiful little island, great for a walk. Not very much going on, but a welcome oasis of quiet.
