We stopped to grab some of Sweden’s famous pastries while walking home from our friend Maia’s house. She told us that while you can get beautiful bread and pastries at other more modern places like Fabrique, she recommended a funky old place called Ritorno because she used to eat here as a young child and would reminisce about the days when people would sit inside enjoying a cup of coffee, a pastry and chain smoke cigarettes. Thankfully, people don’t smoke indoors at restaurants anymore, though smoking seems as popular as it ever was in Sweden compared to the US. We ordered a mini cream puff and a Danish pastry. Do Swedes call Danish pastries«danishes»? I have no idea… You could tell from the 1950’s wood paneling on the interior walls that this place has been around forever. Thankfully, the pastries were not from 1950. They were fresh and delicious.
