Delicious Skagen toast(shrimp toast)! This dish came highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The shrimps are tiny but they stack them so generously on the toast that it was overflowing! We also tried the steam halibut, which came with spinach and fish eggs covered in a cream sauce and a side of boiled potatoes. This dish was tasty, moist, and hearty. You can tell that this place is popular because the whole place was bustling during lunch time with families and business people. We didn’t have a reservation, but thankfully they were able to seat us as long as we shared a table and were out by 45 minutes. This place may be a bit hidden, but it is located in a big market all the way in the back. I will definitely be back for the Skagen toast, if I’m back in Sweden!

Expensive(but what isn’t in Stockholm?) seafood restaurant in the food hall but worth every dollar. It’s casual but clearly still classy. For 2 people, the mixed platter of skagen toast, shrimp(smoked and not smoked), caviar, smoked salmon, marinated salmon and eel is more than enough. I highly recommend it. It comes out looking incredible and is just really fresh tasting seafood with good accompaniments. Worth checking out for a nice sit down seafood lunch.

Food in Stockholm is simply on another level. Four start eateries back home would be reduced to 1 or 2 stars at best. We stopped in here to pick up some salted salmon. The meals people had been eating at the roped off restaurant simply do not exist back home. Magnificent presentations of crabs, shellfish, shrimp with cuts of fresh fish that would make a Japanese fishmonger sharpen his knives. Then of course the fresh bread which seems an essential part of every meal. If you want an experience in an open and functioning market be sure to make your way here. On the other hand if you need a few raw(from the sea) ingredients on your way to visit a friend(like us) this is your place. Outstanding.

Lisa Elmqvist is located inside the fabulous indoor food market Östermalms Saluhall, and is a classic meeting point for lovers of fish and seafood. The ingredients is always fresh and seriously, seriously good. I have visited this place numerous times and never been disappointed — both regarding the food, the presentation and the service. The restaurant is often full, so be aware of that. At times it could become a bit lively due to that the restaurant is located in an indoor market, but I only think that it ads something to the atmosphere. What could be noted though is that Östermalms Saluhall is due for renovation and remodelling so do pay a visit to this traditional indoor food market before it’s too late. Only open at lunchtime!

Five stars for the food; three stars for the ambiance and the service. Pretty messy place with slightly uncomfortable seating at fairly large tables. Tricky with reservations, often impossible. Very nice and tasty seafood! My favorites are«Toast Skagen», «Smoked Eel with Scrambled Eggs» and«Rimmad Lax med Gräddstuvad Potatis», all excellent dishes! Super nice place for lunch, especially on an early Saturday afternoon while also shopping for dinner at the«Östermalms Saluhall». The only drawback shopping at the Saluhall is the lack of, or the limited amount of, organically produced meat, poultry, fruit and vegetables. Despite the fairly high prices! This must really change in Sweden!

Wow, a really unsuspectingly expensive lunch. It was more than $ 100 for our lunch that was supposed to be a casual marketplace experience. The contrast of the greens and beets on the fried sole is what sold me to purchase it but I’m not giving it that great of marks(see photo). However, it’s enough for 2 or 3 people which is something I didn’t know… Just watch out for bones! The seafood bouillabaisse was only luke warm and not really a game changer. The best thing for me was the skagen. Wow! I should have bought all three to be honest. Really fresh tasting with that lemon squeeZed on top. The mixed salad was great value as well. Service here is terrible but then again all of Sweden has had terrible service thus far. We also had a single glass of champagne which may have been what put the bill just over 850 sek. I wouldn’t come back but it was nice to experience.

I dropped into the food hall to have a look on my way to the Historiska Museet(which was a great museum by the way). I did not know anything about this place, so I guess I got lucky on decisions to eat here for lunch! I ate at the counter/bar and the food and servos was great. I ordered a small selection of pickled herring and also a seafood platter mix. All it was so delicious. The small herring platter had three types of picked herring(one plain, one with mustard, and one with sour cream). The seafood platter had quite a variety: fresh shrimp, smoked shrimp, two types of lax, smoked eel, Skagen, and crayfish Skagen — all of which was served with some condiments of fish roe, sour cream, diced onions, mustard, and dipping sauce for the shrimp. I ate it so quick that I forgot to take pictures — or perhaps it was because I was in my second Aquavit.

After throughly enjoying the Vasa museum, we needed a late lunch so headed to the Market Hall. We wandered around admiring the beautiful food but decided on the Lisa because of the fresh fish. We sat at the bar and our bartender/waiter took excellent care of us. We asked for suggestions and with his help decided on the Salt cured Salmon with creamy dill potatoes and the Butter Fried Perch(to Americans, Wall-Eye) with a creamy mushroom sauce. The Salmon was perfectly sliced and nicely fatty. The hot creamy dill potatoes were a perfect accompaniment to the delicate salmon. The Butter fried perch was brown and crispy on the outside and meltingly moist yet firm on the inside. The mushroom sauce was rich and blended perfectly with the fish. This was served with small boiled potatoes which also tasted great with the sauce! What an enjoyable lunch. It wasn’t cheap but a perfect place to splurge.

I saw Uma Thurman earlier this week, standing just a few feet from me at the Stockholm international film festival and I felt sort of creepy looking at this woman who I’d seen in so many films and looked at her in different ways. I guess it’s like any sort of situation where you wrote a letter to a movie star and your praise was just like a coin into a fountain. This is sort of like a love letter to a movie star, a love letter to Lisa Elmqvist. I don’t know when I happened to find this place, it had to have been in the first couple years I was in Sweden. I just know that the fish and all the other food I’ve ever eaten here have been exquisite and the service felt so proper, welcoming, and knew just what to do and when. Why would I feel creepy talking about this? Well the thoughts I have of their sauces and dishes haunt my dreams at night and leave me waking up in cold sweat with my hands clasped on front of me like Axl Rose of Guns and Roses in the Don’t Cry video — except holding fork and knife and I’m not completely naked or maybe I am. Go for lunch, be haunted for life.

Two words: ‘Awesome’, and ‘Toast Skagen’. OK, that’s three words. But I’m too busy devouring their unbelievably great food to get into distinctions. Seriously, seriously good. Go. Often.

Really great restaurant and medium in price. At the back of the Östermalm Saluhall. The food is super fresh. It is all seafood, but if you are a meat lover(like me) you can ask for the secret plate of Swedish meatballs which are fantastic. The shrimp salad was delightful and the Avacado Alexandra(shrimp, salmon, and Avacado) is amazing as well. Everything is so fresh and the atmosphere is great. The service is quick and the people are very kind. Overall, an absolute must.

Great pickled herrings and seafood in general. Here sitting next to some Danes and behind us an American. They all say this is a must to do while in Stockholm. Perfect place to experience seafood. You have to get yourself here. I would come back. Pure satisfaction.

I loved this place for lunch. I gave it five stars in context; it’s not a fine dining establishment but a perfect casual lunch experience with mouth-watering food. Definitely sit at the bar and enjoy a conversation with a server or other patrons, or at least have a great view of the goings on. I couldn’t decide between gravlax and salmon tartar, and was able to have both thanks to Marina, my expert server. She suggested a half-order of gravlax and a small portion of salmon tartare. Along with that I ordered a small mixed salad which was unnecessary because the tartare came with greens. But the food! Everything was fresh and supremely flavorful, simply dressed and served(see my photos). The restaurant is in a centrally-located charming and authentic food hall along with other restaurants and food bars, as well as butchers, fishmongers and bakeries. It closes at 6 pm, so go for lunch or a snack.

Toast Skagen is the classic hete. It is to die for but so is the smoked salmon. Skagen is a mix of bay shrimp(fished off the Swedish west coast and cooked on the boat while returning to shore), mayo and dill served on toast or avocado. Salty ocean flavor! Eat in the bar and people eaych! When seated at the tables you will often share the table with other guests. Go before or after the lunch rush. Afternoons are great! If you are hete in the summer consider Lisa på Torget. That is thete sister restaurant out in the plaza off the main entry. Bring a thick pocket book!
