This place was near my hotel but the real reason I came here is because I’m obsessed with the Millennium film series. I understand why Stieg Larsson loved this place. Great service, great coffee, great location and great for writing. The baristas are highly entertaining. If you just want to chill and sip coffee, this is probably the best place to do it in Stockholm.

I will never go back to this coffee shop. The coffee is great! The pastries are great! The location is great! but… They have this one barista who thinks he is on «Sweden’s got talent». It’s apparently more important for him to sing, than it is to serve customers. In Stockholm, a place where every other building is a coffee shop, there is enough choice not to have to go drink a coffee at a place where I have to listen to some attention hungry barista sing his heart out. So hence my one star: Eek! Methinks not. ps: I don’t know why, but it seems male barista’s(specifically male!) in Stockholm seem to think they are bar tending in a night club, shaking cocktails and entertaining the crowd. You’re not!

A real nice place! Loved the breakfast menu. The only thing I I can say that is negative is that thy have very few types of juice options. I have stayed in Stockholm for a week now, and this is my favorite breakfast place on söder.

Visiting from the USA. We tried many cafes while in Stockholm. This was my favorite. It has a very low key atmosphere, comfortable and homey. The food and coffee are fantastic! Beautiful macka and buns. Great coffee. We came back again during our vacation. I mostly appreciated the friendliness of the staff. That was more difficult to find in other places in Sweden. If we are ever back, we will visit the Mellqvist again! Tack!

When in Stockholm I always come here! They have great coffee, the baristas are super friendly and the coffe is really well prepared! They also have a breakfast deal that is small but yummy! I wish this place was in Brooklyn so I could come everyday.

We were staying in the area and not knowing anything about this café we decided to make a visit. Stockholm was the last of our four-city visit in Europe and our state of jetlag was seriously creeping in on us so we were in dire need of a cup or two. The worker was friendly and helpful and spoke perfect English(which we started to realize about most people in Sweden making it quite easy on the American or British traveler). I had the kanelbullar, a Swedish cardamom roll which I’ve come to really enjoy with a cappuccino. The cappuccino was delightful and I was good to go after about 15 minutes. Later, we learned this was famous as being Stieg Larsson’s(and Mikael Blomkvist’s respectively) favorite coffee shop. But it was quiet and not at all crowded to our surprise and relief. Well, at least when we dropped by which gave us more of a reason to love this place. A must visit while in Stockholm.

On a quest to meet the girl with the dragon tattoo, I hunted this place down. Nice leisurely walk to reach the mecca — the place where Stieg Larsson hung out… Ordered a cappuccino(poor timing meant I wasn’t hungry) and grabbed an outside table. Great people watching!

I was in Stockholm for a week for a work-related conference and stayed in Sodermalm(really nice & fun area, by the way!). On my second-to-last day there I found out that scenes from The Girls with the Dragon Tattoo were filmed here at this coffee shop! What!!! I left the conference half way through a lecture(haha) and drag a friend out with me. We both went straight to this coffee shop, anticipating a huge crowd and long lines given the publicity. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to see a very simple(yet nice) low key café where people just sat in the outdoor seating area enjoying their coffee. We ordered coffee, it was perfect– nice flavor, perfect temperature. It was such a great place to enjoy good conversations with a good friend, we had a great time there.

During my week stack in Stockholm, this was the best coffee I had, hands-down. Not only that, but their delicious cardamon sweet buns and egg + caviar sandwiches made a fantastic breakfast for many of the mornings there :-) They also provide blankets and cushions for the benches outside, to cozy up in the morning sunlight. Quite a nice little place :-) Looking forward to seeing them again next time I’m there.

Relaxing place, great sandwiches and coffee! A good way to start a nice day! We tried sandwishes with eggs and fish, it was fine and light! Service is nice.

As good as it gets. Their Swedish coffee was the delight of my morning each day. This local café was around the corner where I stayed. Not only they serve a smoothly balanced coffee(Swedish style) on the dark roasted side, they have a good selection of local sandwiches and pastries. Try the Kanelbulle or eggs/ham sandwich. On my hit list when in Stockholm.

Mellkvist Kaffebar is a small shop located on a little square in Söder. I would recommend going there on a sunny day and enjoying the place outside with a cup of coffee or something else they have to offer. The baristas are friendly and seem to know what they’re doing, and the food also looked delicious. The seating inside is limited, but they have quite some tables and chairs outside. I’ve never been in that part of Stockholm before, but it is a nice neighbourhood and resting in the sun at Mellqvist Kaffebar is definitely one of the best things you could do around there.
