We really liked this store — it’s not particularly large, but was something different from all of the other touristy souvenir shops in the heart of Old Town, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. Being someone who loves history and has an interest in Viking culture, Handfaste was right up my alley. Most of the store is dedicated specifically to Viking related items, and there were some really unique things for sale — everything from wood carvings of zoomorphic animals to runic jewelry, and knives that looked like they were straight out of the blacksmith’s shop.(In fact, I regret NOT buying a knife for my friend, who is a knife maker, as he is really interested in the Viking style of knife and sword making!) As it was our last day in Sweden when we stopped in, our time(and bag space) was limited, so we only ended up buying a small statue of Thor and a hand painted authentic Dalecarlian horse(not a Viking item, but still a nice handmade Swedish gift that wasn’t made in China like so many of the other stores were offering). Our purchases were both carefully wrapped up and boxed, ready for travel, and each one included a small card that told about the item, which I thought was a nice touch. The people working in the shop weren’t particularly outgoing or friendly, but they also let us browse for as long as we wanted, and again, took care with wrapping up our souvenirs, so all in all, it was a nice and productive shopping experience and everything made it home safely. If I’m ever back in Stockholm, I will definitely stop into Handfaste again, and this time, I’ll buy my friend a Viking knife!

It was cool to see a shop purely dedicated to selling Viking related items. Bought a cool ring designed with the Viking alphabet written on it and for a cheap 59SEK or $ 11. The customer service is questionable. We dropped by here on two separate occasions and let me just say that the second time was a better experience. The guy basically told my friend she can’t try on the helmet display by the window unless she’s buying it. Hello, rude!
