I booked a meal at Gro for the first night of a trip to Sweden with my mom. We arrived 20 minutes early, bewildered and bleary-eyed, and were promptly shown to our table. This restaurant was my first experience of «new Nordic» cuisine. I allowed myself a couple glasses of a superb white wine called«Chardon Gay». The waiter was very funny and charming and gently scolded my mother for letting her menu dip into the candle on the table. I’m a vegan with intolerances to gluten and garlic, and made myself a vegetarian for this trip about a month in advance. I was glad I did. Like many other places in Sweden, the waiter was happy to double check with the chef that there wasn’t any garlic in the food. There wasn’t(garlic in everything seems to go against the mantras of new Nordic cooking). I’d let them know in advance that I can’t have gluten, but this probably wasn’t necessary. They brought out some gf crispbread that was just the right amount to make me feel included without ruining my meal. My mother and I both opted for the vegivore menu for 500 sek, a total bargain IMO. The first course was a mostly raw«noodle» dish of zucchini and fennel with nasturtium leaves. The skin of the zucchini had been turned into a gorgeous green sauce. There were also dehydrated squash pieces, which added a lovely dose of flavor and texture. A mark of a good chef is the ability to make people enjoy ingredients they swear they hate. In my case at this meal, it was horseradish. The charred leeks with horseradish surprised me. For the main course, I had summer cabbage with lentils and apple. It seems that they turned the cabbage stalk into a mash mixed with a bit of cauliflower and added grated cauliflower to the top. It was fantastic. Dessert was a sour milk ice cream with plums and a birch bark caramel sauce. I think there was something gluteny that they didn’t put on mine, like a sweet cracker or something, but I don’t see how it could have added anything to make it any better than it was. Mom was also very pleased with her meal and we both left with a bit of a crush on the waiter. I definitely recommend a visit to this place.

Sorry, this was not for me. I have eaten lunch here a couple of times, and never really found anything I liked. I agree though that everything seems to be cooked right with nice ingredients and so. It’s just a matter of taste. And it’s the boiled food… Everything is boiled. Soft and muschy. The opposite of crisp and raw, fresh food. Maybe I have a hard time liking it since I grew up in the 70’s and this kind of food was standard then. :) Very hipstery place.

Beautiful and simplistic, the perfect integration of food and art. For 500SEK, you get a choice of a vegetarian or meat tasting menu consisting of 4 courses. The restaurant is quite small and fits only about 18 people, not counting the 2 stool seats facing the open window, therefore, reservations are a must. The concept is simple, 2 chefs, 1 waiter, every dish is carefully crafted, ingredients are locally sourced and plates are always beautiful. The kitchen is open, you can see everything the chefs are preparing, minus the noise. Yet, before you know it, your next course has already arrived. The progression of the food was prefect for my speed and the care in each plate of food was undeniable! A definite must!

After many lunches, we now had dinner at Gro, and we were unreservedly happy with the experience. They offer a choice between two similar four-course degustation menus, «vegivor» or «omnivor». Significant work has clearly been involved in the preparation of each course, and that work pays off, because the food is really good. And, importantly, an evening at Gro is not depravedly expensive. In all of Stockholm, I feel that only Volt compares to this fine restaurant.

Was fortunate enough to meet a very cool local in Stockholm, a self described«gypsy waiter» who happens to be the sommelier at Gro. In fact, he was introduced to me by the chef at Sushi Sho my first night in the city. I took the invite to check the place out night two and I have to say it was an amazing gastronomic experience! The crew is truly gifted, the food is an incredible blend of local tradition and out of this world creativity, and the vibe of the place is just right! They had a Vegitarian or omnivore menus, and each course came with hand selected biodynamic/organic wines that paired perfectly. The only question I am left asking myself is, «why don’t we have Vegitarian food on this level in LA!!!» Thanks to the gypsy waiter Daniel and Henrik the owner/chef, [who I found out is is an old skater and punk musician(a global subculture: secret society)], for doing something truly great!

Best lunch in town. Always really tasty and delicious! Also incredibly price worthy! A must! Been here for lunch almost 10 times. It only costs a 100kr and is always splendid! You get three choices to choose from at lunch. One is always vegetarian.

Favorit! Best lunch option in Stockholm. Henrik and Magnus are a perfect pair. You can watch them in action, as you’ll be dining right next to the counter where all food is prepared. The space is small but cozy, simply and beautifully furnished. It’s not just vegetarian. The daily dish usually includes meat or fish or bird, but there’s always a veggie option too. During lunch, you can choose between 3 different dishes, and also dessert, all of which emphasize local ingredients, particularly vegetables and fruits, sometimes wild ingredients like berries or mushrooms picked from the surrounding forests. So no, you will not find a ½ kilo steak here, but you will find thoughtful, delicious entrées, salads, soups, open-faced sandwiches and desserts that might contain some meat but keep vegetables as the focus. Gro recently opened their doors for dinner, 3 nights per week. The dinners are pre-fixe and very special. I believe they’ve started offering á la carte options for dinner, which I must check out very soon. Wine selection is especially fantastic, as Henrik and Magnus work with top sommeliers and have personally visited the wineries themselves. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve eaten at Gro, and I’ve never once been disappointed. Hence why I consider it a favorite.

Really enjoyed this little hidden treasure. Small space and menu but great food and fantastic to watch these two chefs master their craft and prepare the plates. Today was two vegetarian dishes, raw bean salad, beet and goat geese sandwich or a dish with Swedish sausage.
