It’s a strange unindian — Indian place. I mean, Indians are known for their hospitality and grandness. This place lacks both. It’s strictly a no frills place. I had lunch. They had 5 starters and 4 main courses. Sort of fixed menu. While the food itself was great, spicy, pipping hot, the lack of choices just kills it. Specially if you are vegetarian, there’s only 1 choice in starter and main course each. The setup is very simple and unattractive. But then again, since the place is cheap, I will take it all.

We finally got out for a lunch special and went for Indian. Garam Masala is a simple restaurant, but convenient, generous, and generally quite good. We ordered the Tikka Masala(a benchmark Indian dish if there ever was one), Chicken Vindaloo, Palak Dak(spinach), and two orders of naan. I’ll start by saying the Tikka Masala was not my favorite. The sauce was surprisingly sweet, and a little too heavy on the tomato flavor. However, it was served piping hot(a big plus for me) and the chicken was cooked perfectly — moist and tender. It’s easy to over cook chicken for these dishes, so this was another plus. The Vindaloo and Palak Dak(served together as a lunch combo) were an improvement. Again served piping hot, the Vindaloo had a nice kick with more-or-less the same, perfect cooked chicken, and the spinach was well flavored and textured — not too mushy. The naan portions were quite large, and the two of us would have been fine with just one order. It was fresh baked, soft, and tasty. Both dishes also came with a salad and drinks(or water). The salad was some shredded lettuce with a sweater yoghurt dressing. The drinks were some terrible watered down juice concoction. I could have done without both. So, while I’ll still be on the lookout for a great Tikka Masala, I’d be happy to visit here again when I’m craving Indian.
