This Quaint restaurant was in close proximity to our hotel and recommended by our front desk staff. A very sweet young woman was our waitress and she served us the worst possible wine and then we never saw her again. In fact it took forever before we saw anyone again. It was as if the restaurant had closed and we were left in a remote area all alone. We started with Zelnacka– Cabbage soup with sausage and were not impressed. I then had Svickova–(Sirloin in a cream sauce, Czech dumplings, cranberry ring), and truly hated almost all of it. The dumpling was a weird, gelatinous glob that was surrounded by a terribly flavored sauce/gravy, and the sirloin was not any better. My dining partner had the Moravský vrabec(Roasted pork, bread– and potato dumplings with spinach) and he was only slightly more impressed than I was. The wine was disgusting, undrinkable, and we would have returned it, but it seemed like it took an hour before we saw any staff to whom we could complain. I really believe our waitress either ended her shift or was let go. She seemed like she was so unsure of herself and grateful when we said something was okay. Anyway this was our first meal in the Czech Republic and we were very skeptical that this culture knew how to cook. We later ate at some fantastic restaurants and knew that U Semika was either not good or that we caught them when they were having an atrocious night.

Stopped here on our walk up to Vysehrad. The restaurant offered daily lunch specials at budget pricing. There is a front streetside patio, interior bar and table area, library area with tables, and two outdoor garden type patios to meet all of your dining needs. The food was delicious, but more than that our waiter service was excellent. AND… he brought us an entire carafe of still water at no charge!!! I especially enjoyed the homemade elderberry lemonade which was more of a sparkling water with a hint of lemon and berry. It was extremely refreshing and light. We ordered pasta with chicken and basil, gnocchi with spinach and tomatoes, and the veggie burger. All were delicious and again, pricing was lean, but the portions were not. We did not order dessert, but what we saw looked wonderful.

Tolles tschechisches Restaurant! Sehr netter + professioneller & mehrsprachiger Service(deutsche + englische Speisekarten verfügbar). Selten so gut & frisch gegessen! :)
