Been to see quite a few shows here. If you haven’t seen a «panto» before — this is the place to go and see it. It’s a coffee place during the day

I love the Theatre Royal in York. They show loads of different things, most famously the yearly pantomime every Christmas which I always go to. The Theatre is a gorgeous building and there is loads of seating inside. There is also a café/bar which serves really nice food.

a really great theatre, there is a great range of shows, touring shows, york shows, youth theatre shows, something for everyone. The café is better than a lot of restaurants, serving meals in the day and refreshments during interval breaks, there is a great atmosheare. Very involving for younger audiences, the theatre runs youth theatre and a young actors company, tickets for 25 years and under are £5 with limited amounts of tickets for free. The theatre also runs an anual 2 week festival where the theatre is run by under 26 year olds.

The Theatre Royal is a great asset to York. It gets some fantastic productions touring and makes some of its own to rival these. There is a thriving youth theatre group who produce plays to perform at the theatre, meaning the Theatre Royal really does have something different to offer. There are two stages, the main stage with seating in the stalls, dress circle, gallery and gods, and then the studio, which acts as a more intimate setting for smaller productions, with the seating around three sides of the performance area. Tickets can be expensive, but are worth it for the standard of the productions. If you are under 25 or a student you can get reduced rate tickets at £5 for most performances. There is a café bar where you can get simple food and pre-peformance or interval drinks. Ice cream is sold in intervals in the foyer.
