Sandwiches served cold and beastly size is just a little bit of meat — not even a proper slice, more like Sunday roast leftovers…

The service was friendly but slow. Sandwiches were served cold, I don’t know if it’s a York thing but they’d taste much better if they were warmed up /toasted. I got the pork and apple sauce and it was just bland. Pork was cold, apple sauce cold, bread cold, stuffing warmish. Overall I think it could be much better.

Myself and my wife arrived one evening hoping for some delicious hog roast but left disappointed. I ordered the hog roast with vegetables in a Yorkshire pudding which was drowning in gravy, but my wife ordered hog in a bap which was incredibly dry. The hog itself was fairly bland and a bit fatty. This isn’t a sit in restaurant, it’s more of a fast food place where they only do hog roast.

As a yank I am constantly amazed at the Brits habit of attaching the word pudding to a variety of items. While on my visit to the UK I enjoyed yorkshire pudding, sticky toffee pudding and black pudding none of the dishes resembled each other in any way. Having said that the Yorkshire pudding at York hog roast was excellent, the best dining experience I had during my two week stay in England and France. The pork Yorkshire pudding was authentic, delicious and the service was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had cracklings, I thought those we’re only available in the southern U. S. I guess my most convincing point was I ate both lunch and dinner there during my one day in York. I can’t remember the last time I did that even at home.

I agree with the reviewer who was troubled by the employees handling money and food with the same gloves. I had assumed it was an isolated incident, but they did it in front of us, too. They clearly don’t understand that the point of the gloves is not to protect the food from your hands. If the management is reading this, please consider the following PSA from New Zealand: That aside, this was the best meal we had in York. In a town full of Disney stores and Swarovski Crystals, this place is the real deal. York Hogroast is cheap, fast, tasty, and filling. Great layers of flavor. Open past when the shops close. The menu is small, but go for one of the several sampler platters. Potatoes, veg, gravy, Yorkshire pudding, meat of your choice, you will fall in love with something, and thoroughly enjoy the rest! Take it with you out to the park in front of the York Minster and enjoy the view as you nosh. No vegetarian options. This place will be on the list for every single trip we make to York! Brilliant. So simple and brilliant. I believe there are two such places as this in York but I only visited this one outlet. Twice. The idea is a great one. Big ol’ chunks of meat(turkey, pork, beef, lamb and, I think, gammon) cooked and stewing in their own juices. It’s essentially fast food but instead of the usual dross it’s good meat cooked properly. The process is simple, you walk inside, state which meat you’d like and your choice of various sides to be included(apple sauce, stuffing, other sauces, crackling etc. it depends on which meat one has), then they slice of some chunks of said meat, stick it in a floury bap and after handing over £3.50 — £4.80(depending on what sandwich and how much extra stuff you have in it) you’re on your way and setting about this lovely meat sandwich. A little cheaper and a whole lot better than any Subway, McDonald’s or whatever else you can think of. We need more places like this. Many more. Also, as I was just visiting, how soon can you make it down to London? TTFN, Ian

Yummah in mah bellah! Just a delicious sandwich. Moist and yummy and cheap especially for the quantity and quality. The roast pork sandwich was hand cut right in front of me and topped with a scoop of applesauce. It didn’t need anything else. It’ was that good. Not much for drinks, just a cooler with some sodas and such. It’s just a bummer that there aren’t any benches nearby. I’m not a huge fan of standing while I’m eating.

Tender and juicy pork. Tasty stuffing. Yummy apple sauce. Salty and crunchy crackling. All of this stuffed in a soft and chewy baguette, and served to you by the most affable server. The best part? I paid a little less than 4 quid, and it fed me and my spouse. This place beats Roast to Go in London’s Borough Market hands down. The yummiest take-away roast pork sandwiches. This IS hog heaven. Oh, and the roasties and yorkshire puds were not bad either!
