to a very brave woman who
saved many people but sadly
lost her own life doing so

Blessings for All in this lovely shrine. As a lifetime admirer of all who support their faith in Jesus Christ, I can heartily support all comments to visit and pray in this lovely shrine.
I have been C of E yet due to friends and the faith of Margaret Clitheroe, I have started attending RCIA Meetings in York towards joining the Catholic faith.

You may find this small, white plastered, wooden floored room underwhleming, but it represents a huge show of faith.
Margaret Clitherow lived in this house, which is now preserved as a place of quiet prayer and reflection. Stepping into the room from the crowded bustle of the Shambles is relaxing and thought provoking.
There is nothing to see or read, just wooden benches around the walls to sit on while you pray or think deeply.
St Margaret Clitherow died in 1586 as a martyr after being arrest for harbouring Catholic priests. She used another house in the Shambles to hold Mass when Catholicism was outlawed in the 16^th century after Henry VIII split from Rome and created his own Church of England.
She refused to plead when charged with harbouring priests and so was crushed to death –with each rock added to the weight on her chest she had a chance to admit her guilt, but she refused and so died a martyr
