Good food Good service, friendly staff, and reasonable priced. However the food varies from time to time. Maybe due to the reason that they use different staff to do different dates. So please do not expect the food same every time. The best thing I like is that the prices are fairly reasonable. So don’t mind to go there more often.

More of a 3.5 star review, but hey, I have rounded up to 4! First time visiting the York branch/one in York on Sunday, and as expected from a Maxi’s restaurant — they all look the same! but the décor is fairly nice, tidy and clean. As for the food, I went there for the [extensive] dim sum, because I wanted my ‘heart touching’ :). Prices were actually overall cheaper than in Leeds e.g. Sing Kee and Tong Palace, and the standard was pretty good aswell, and servced hot! All the usual suspects were there from har gow, cheong fun, steamed buns, rices etc… As for the service, could have been better, but wasn’t bad — 3⁄5. All in all, it was quite a pleasant day and would visit again.

I went here with my mum a few years ago to celebrate my getting into University(I have finished now) so my review may be a little out of date. However, their vegetarian lettuce wraps live on in my memory! he food was gorgeous, the service was impeccable; the staff friendly and polite. I have been told that this is a great place to go for a work night out or a christmas do as they also have a dance floor and disco at the weekend. the only problem I have with the place is the fact that it is quite a way outside of York, so if you want to drink then you may be best off sharing a taxi with other people or it might cost a bit(unless you live nearby!)

I’m not a big fan of Chinese food but this was quite a surprise. It’s huge inside, the exterior gives nothing away — rather unprepossessing area of Clifton Moor. The staff are very friendly and helpful with regard to the menus and utterly efficient in delivery the courses quickly. There were also extremely nice to our children. Was not very adventurous with the menu, but can recommend crispy chilli beef, pork in black bean sauce and unfortunately I cannot remember the others but it was all good. No complaints

Maxis has been firm favourite of mine and I have been eating there for a number of years It offers everything a good Chinese restaurant should, an extensive menu with everyone’s favourite dishes including, blackbean, garlic and chillie, and the dramatic sizzling dishes! The best thing about Maxis is there extensive dim sum menu. If you’ve never tried Dim Sum the I highly recommend a trip to maxis, but bear in mind they stop serving dim sum at 6pm. Dim Sum are small portions of various different things, for example, char sui buns, spare ribs and chickens feet in black bean sauce, deep fried cuttle fish cakes, deep fried king prawns, wafer wrapped king prawns, beef in ginger to name but a few! all the dishes are around £3 so it’s works out as a fairly reasonable price for lunch if you budget for aroud 2 — 3 portions of Dim sum per person. I would also like to add that the service at Maxis is exceptional — The waiters and waitresses make a fuss of my daughter each time we go and always bring her a little spoon and fork and are in general extremely helpful and friendly.

Despite its somewhat out-of-the-way, and at-first-appearance-unpromising location(a business park on the York ring road), Maxis is an authentic Chinese restaurant which provides the best lunchtime and afternoon dim sum available in the York area. The exterior gives little clue to the interior, which is large and square, and could have been rather soulless without the exuberant décor, which takes one straight back to Kowloon. The selection of dim sum is very adequate without being overwhelming, the quality of the food is very good, and the service is pretty good too. We go there several times a year, and usually find good numbers of equally appreciative customers.

another fav chinese restaurant of mine! excellent dim sum menu till about 5pm with special items on a sunday! as well as a lunch time menu and a normal menu the dim sum is as i remembered from my childhood! very authentic. the char sui buns, glutinous rice wrapped in leaves, char sui chung fun, its fab for a posh but not over expensive lunch, as each dim sum item on menu is priced around £3.00 and 3 or 4 dishes is enough for 2 people. but that depends on how big an eater you are! we often order 5 and take the rest home.(please note if having dim sum the dishes are brought to your table as soon as they are ready, rather then all at the same time) always well staffed, prompt service but never hurried
