A good quality Italian restaurant with really nice food, and friendly staff. It has a bustling atmosphere and is decorated more like a café/coffee bar than a bistro/intimate dining premises. Its in a lovely old building which perhaps could be made a little bit more intimate/atmospheric at night with a more subdued lighting and candles, its is a little to casual for a romantic meal for two. We shared a tomato garlic bread and for mains we had Calzone Kiev(chicken/garlic, mushrooms, cheese) topped with tomato sauce and Penne Della Piazza and even had room for profiteroles and tiramisu for desert. The food was very good and would come again I just think they could do a little more with the interior for the night time menu.

Looks quite deserted from outside but dining area is a pleasant, open modern looking space to the rear. Dined early eve with a group of 6. Good fresh tasty food, friendly & quick service. Def would go back.

I was not going to bother leaving a review of this place but I thought I should make the effort to share my dining experiences both good and bad. I was in lovely city of York with a bunch of eight pals on Monday and we decided to have an early supper before heading off on our various ways. We dropped into La Piazza with no great expectations other than a hope for some bog standard Italian home style cooking. It turned out those were very high expectations. Pretty much everything from the pizza to the pasta was poor or worse. I have never been out with these guys before and seen any food left on the plate but on this occasion I don’t think anything was more than half eaten at best. It’s not worth recounting our evening in any detail as no-one wants to dwell on a car crash but this is not a restaurant I would ever consider visiting again. Thank the lord for wine and good company.

A really good quality Italian restaurant with really nice food(although I prefer the desserts at other Italians) and freindly staff. It has a bustling atmosphere and is pretty crowde downstairs if it’s full. You can hire the upstairs room for private functions if you want or they will cater for big groups of people downstairs in the main restaurant area. It’s probably somewhere that you’d want to go for a special occasion though as it’s pretty expensive for an Italian restaurant. This is probably because the food is good and they offer mains other than pasta and pizza, e.g. meat, fish, etc.

undoubtly a real Italian restaurant! Have visited many times over the years & the standard of food & service is consistent. The best garlic bread in York. Excellent value for money. Fab historic surrondings, not forgetting the resident ghost upstairs!
