There are so many great things to get at Goji. The incredible Goji mushroom burger, a variety of tasty wraps, and the incredible sweets – many of them vegan – to name a few. The staff is friendly and the place just has a great feel to it. Plus they have one of the famous York cats on their upstairs window ledge. Check it out and do the entire Cat Walk tour – see how many you can locate (about 17 or 18 in all). My wife and I are in York every September, and Goji is our most frequented stop while there – either for eating in or taking away.

Goji is a brilliant little café that serves vegetarian food, and most of it is suitable for vegans too.
If you’re vegan and in York then you HAVE to visit Goji, even if it’s just for their chocolate cake! It’s just sooooo good!
They serve various drinks, including some lovely fruit teas. I tend to buy the goji berry tea, and then buy some of the loose tea to take home too.
They have some take-​away food (like salads, wraps, cakes etc.) or you can sit in the cosy café (with local art on the walls) and enjoy a meal or just some tea and cake (did I mention they serve gorgeous vegan chocolate cake?!)
On my most recent visit I had the sticky toffee pudding (with oat-​based cream) and it just disappeared off my plate within minutes, I didn’t get a chance to take a photo: p
I would say the prices are average for a good café in York, and the service is always cheerful and friendly.
The one drawback to this place is that the toilets are on the top floor so you have to navigate the winding stairs (I guess it’s good for working off that cake…) and it’s not accessible for people with mobility issues.

I was so excited to find a place with vegan options! The place is small but cute. The staff is friendly and sociable. Our server came by to make sure everything was good and the guy at the front counter was full of personality. I had the hotdog and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to any vegans, vegetarians, or even carnivores in the area.

After strolling around the York Castle Museum, my mom, our friend and I were starving — and I found Goji using Unilocal — so we headed there for lunch. We were impressed with the staff and the food. From the moment we walked in the door — we were informed of what was going on – the kitchen had some issues and was getting a late start, but they could seat us and bring us drinks, desserts or anything from the prepared foods of the deli bar.
The staff were courteous, friendly and efficient — and they kept everyone in the dining area very happy. We satisfied ourselves with hot drinking chocolate, coffee and a big slice of vegan chocolate mocha cake.
When we finally got our food — it was delicious — I had the vegan burger with smoked tofu, my mom had a vegan hot dog and my friend had the wrap (one half of butternut squash, the other half spinach & bean).
The servers were literally flying up and down the stairs between dining areas and kitchen — and we could not have asked for better service or food. Highly recommended whether you are vegan, vegetarian or omni.

This is a great place for vegan cakes and other vegetarian goodies. Their hot chocolate is great as is their selection of teas. Their main menu is limited in terms of what’s on offer for my needs (no onions, no garlic). They are open for dinner only on Friday and Saturday. Service is friendly but on the slow side. It’s a cozy little place.

I really like this restaurant, I discovered it when I visited York during the summer (or what we had of it) and I have already been back since.
My boyfriend and I are both vegetarian, so we often like to visit veggie eateries when we visit new places, and this place was great! It wasn’t too ‘hippy’ inside like many are (which I don’t mind at all) and they have a lovely outdoor courtyard in the back.
I had the veggie hot dog which was gorgeous! In fact my boyfriend and I both had it when we returned after I enjoyed it so much the first time.
They have plenty of delicious veggie and vegan cakes on offer in the deli at the front and do lunches to take away.
It’s nice to have a big selection when eating out, so always enjoy visiting veggie cafes when I go to new cities.
The only criticism is the staff could be a bit more welcoming upon arrival, both times I felt as though I had interrupted them, and the second time especially one of the girls wasn’t very friendly — but nothing major, but made it just miss out on the 5* rating.

I moved to York, from Los Angeles for a year. Coming from what I believe is the «Vegan Capital» of the U.S., I was very worried about finding somewhere local to eat. Fortunately, Goji exists. Goji became my go-​to vegan heaven. When living in York I ate at Goji at least once a week. Friendly staff, great customer service and lovely vegan food, I felt welcomed and right at home. This place is amazing. Please go there!

Stopped for lunch there on a summers day in July. Ate outside in private, small, intimate, walled patio area under large canopy. Staff were super-​lovely all smiles and friendliness. Food was perfect. Service quick, efficient and attentive.

Was only in York for a few days and this was one of the best places I went to. To be able to find a restaurant that has such good veggie food, with a takeaway option for lunch, could go for a meal if you wanted… def gets my vote.
First experience was a sit down lunch, had a delicious carrot and ginger soup, was amazing, accompanied by a goats cheese, squash and lemongrass wrap… mmm mmm! Was reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious. Even Ian, who likes his meat but eats veggie with me, loved it.
I then decided to return for a takeaway lunch on the last day whilst Ian got his Hog Roast sandwich (!!) and had a delicious mushroom burger with garlic, halloumi and rocket salad and salsa to die for and bits in a bun! Was filling, delicious, a perfect alternative to a regular sandwich.
I would highly recommend this place, veggie or not. There is so much choice, they cook all fresh on site, there are also cakes and vegan and gluten free options. A great place for a nice lunch or a cuppa! Wish I could find a place like it in London!

Absolutely fantastic vegetarian/​vegan food! Tried the tomato & sweet potato soup with butternut squash tortilla wrap, and it was gorgeous and very filling. Roughly around £7 for this meal, which i found very reasonable for the quality. I have been trying to find a good vegetarian café/​restaurant for absolutely ages, and this place was exactly was i was looking for.

We went here searching for nice vegetarian food as one of us is a veggie. We ordered the pepper stuffed with risotto from the daily special and it was delicious. The other order was of the tortilla wrap with beans and salad and that perhaps was allright but not great for the price. They had some fantastic organic and local drinks — my wife said the dandelion and burdock took her back to her childhood at her nan’s. The people were so friendly and warm. We will definitely go back but perhaps stick to the specials on the board!

Treat yourself to one of the special teas.
Would go more often but my youngest only eats sausages /​spag bol /​pizzas — none of which, i am happy to say, appear on the menu at Goji.
EDIT: now serves quick bites for takeaway at lunchtime e.g. mushroom burger and nicest vege hot dog i have ever had.
