A little gem of a café on the corner. Friendly service, good ambience, great honest food and good prices.

I could have sworn I’d written a review . Right this place is easy to find as its the first café you come across while walking to town from the train station. Come here for your breccie before you even think of stepping foot in town! From cakes, epic salads, omlettes, breccie, pies and sandwiches. this is a gem. I ALWAYS go for the eggs bendedict royale here… Lots of salmon perched on English muffins, smothered in lots of hollandaise sauce and yummy runny yolk goodness from two poached eggs for just over a fiver… bargain. The milkshakes are delish and the service was so much better here this time. Even had the amazing chef being us our food. the quality and the cheapness is hard to believe especially when you pay at least a tenner in Manchester for one egg on some dried toast. Only criticism is the table layout. They could fit in so much more people in if they changed things around. other than that a quaint good value café. oh and feel free to ask for breakfast after 11 as the chef might say yes :-)

I can’t believe this place wasn’t on Unilocal already! I would genuinely get the train to York just to have Eggs Benedict in the cosy, unassuming little café/deli. The interior resembles your typical Anglo-Italian eatery, with canvases, mirrors and old fashioned coffee posters adorning the main wall. A selection of cakes sit in the chilled counter, along with other imported snacks and beverages. Breakfast is served till, a very reasonable, 11.45, so there’s no need to forsake a lie in. The breakfast menu ranges from hot rolls, to fry-ups, and posh eggs. Having always wanted to try Eggs Benedict, but generally never being up in time to go for breakfast, or at least, not anywhere that serves it, I couldn’t wait to try it. And I was not to be disappointed. Two perfectly poached eggs, sat atop a generous portion of Serrano ham, on a bed of toasted muffin, were drizzled in Hollandaise sauce. It was devine. My latte resembled a Campbell’s Cup-o-Chino(Mike Myers fans will get that one!) and was deliciously creamy, without being too heavy. The mother had toast and beans, again, with a great helping, and a pot of tea, served with the cutest milk jug ever! A wee coo. My one and only complaint was how early they closed. We went back the next evening to sample their pasta only to find it closed at 4.30. They could really afford to stay open for an evening menu, as the passing trade would do anything but.
