Great breakfast! This was a very nice change from hotel breakfasts. I had eggs florentine and my husband had French toast. The food was very good, excellent service and open early.

Saw the recommendation so went there with my old friend. The fish cakes are really good! Fresh and tasty :) A cataplana sea stuff is also quite good with prawn, fish and crab in a hot tomato soup. Love it. If you are near, don’t miss this one ;)

My family ate here for lunch and it was a fantastic experience. Cute and cozy inside… we were lucky enough to get a table by the front window with a spectacular view of York Minster. They have a terrific gluten free menu so it was tough to decide what to have. I opted for cottage pie with gluten free bread. Yum! The rest of the family all enjoyed their non gf food, food, service, location and ambience were all top notch. It’s amazing to me to find such a gem right next to the minster.

Was recommended Café Concerto for breakfast and am thoroughly glad I went. Great food, great coffee, and a lovely atmosphere.

Hidden away in York, the treble cleft signpost and name intrigued me. Looking for a non bog standard breccie, i tried to view the menu outside through people’s heads .in the end I gave up and stormed in. Very pokey. like being inside a musty old piano, but charming. With its small cosey tables and its wallpaper made from sheet music… It’s and ideal brunch place, offering cakes, sandwiches, breakfasts, soups and salads… the gorgonzola pâté certainly intrigued me, while my partner chose a simple brie and bacon sarnie. the waitresses were polite and took our orders quickly . While waiting on the food i slurped my chai latte it was tasty, but was more foam than liquid. When the food eventually arrived it did not look much but the pâté packed a punch of flavour! And the cheese constalanly melted out of the bacon sarnie. Overall the food was good quality and tasty… the drinks were not great but I loved the quirkyness of this place. if you are a musical person you will love it here

A café that does guest bottled beers is always going to earn a little extra favour from me! In order to give my beer something to wash down I went for their chunky tomato soup and granary bread. It, like the staff, was very nice… and warm. The décor is music inspired as you might imagine from the name! The Café has been around for over 20 years which gives you a measure of its success

We went here for breakfast/lunch/hangover food on New Year’s Day and were very happy with it. I ordered a croque monseiur, a chai latte, and a litre of sparkling water. My boyfriend ordered a tuna melt, a chocolate milk and an orange juice. Perfect restorative food and drink! Had I not been trying to eat my way through a hangover I might have had something lighter like one of the salad bowls, but it was not to be. Service was friendly and the food appeared quickly. My croque monseiur came with mustard mayo which was delicious, and a small salad which I didn’t really enjoy because a) no dressing and b) covered in fruit, but I ate the fruit off it nonetheless. The sandwich was really delicious and just what I wanted — cheesy, stodgy goodness. Thankfully the mustard mayo actually cut through everything a bit to save it from being on the bland side. My boyfriend also enjoyed his tuna melt and it was absolutely humongous. The price was average — I’m sure there are cheaper lunches around but it was all tasty and the café is in a convenient location. It was £30 overall for two sandwiches and four drinks. It seems a bit weird to mention the toilets when reviewing the food but they were pretty bad and it needs mentioning. Cramped, awkward to get into, shabby, cold, and dirty. That’s my only complaint though — really liked this place and would recommend!

Café Concerto sits right across the street from the dominating York Minster. Despite being in prime location for a «tourist trap» this business is reasonably priced and maintains a cozy atmosphere. We grabbed a bite to eat here before heading off for the train station. I enjoyed a croque monsieur and my boyfriend enjoyed some toast, eggs and smoked salmon. It was hot, affordable, and the staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend stopping in for a quick bite, or to get out of the cold when you’re done hitting the sights.

Ahhhh concerto, what is there to say, I’ve eaten here for breakfast, five stars, lunch, five stars and dinner in the evening, maybe 4.5 stars for that. Yes it can be busy at times, but well worth it, the ambience is pitched just right, staff are quick on their toes and always polite and as for the cheesecake! My usual call in for this place is a full English on a morning, although I’m partial to a Yorkshire platter for lunch too, both hearty and great value. Only slight downer I find is while the evening menu is every bit as tasty as the day menu it does seem a wee bit overpriced in comparison to other similar offerings in the area, never been quite sure why that is, still it’s not a big grumble. If you like it a bit homely and non chain based you can’t go wrong here.

We were in York for a few days and ended up coming back here each day. The first day was just coffee, the second day dessert and coffee and the last day a meal and dessert. Each time we weren’t disappointed by the food and the service, and the fish cakes were a real highlight. The café looks great with old sheet music up around the walls and the staff were very friendly. Worth a visit!

So good I went two days in a row. Simple, wholesome, quality food in an adorably cozy spot. Lots of healthy options, good wine list, gluten free bead available, and soup was DELICIOUS.

I went there for relief from heavy breakfasts and thankfully ended up having a very light and delightful French toast and bacon Good little café. Portion sizes are in line with the cost of the meal and the food is of a higher quality than the standard pub breakfast. Friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Nice relaxed café in the midst of a busy city center.

My date and i ordered the Spanish style stew and the salmon special and the Mediterranean platter. All dishes were very flavourful and high quality. The platter was a nice mix of flavours, it was strangely served with garlic bread but it was tasty just the same. The salmon was the star of the evening, perfectly prepared and quite a large portion. The stew was really really hot but amazing flavours and perfectly prepared as well. The wine in French but the descriptions are the key to ordering success. Water refills are scarce but that’s common in England so no reduction in stars for that. This place is also pay at the counter, which seemed a bit odd.

Our first stop for lunch in York was Café Concerto, it being one of the only places my mum and I had both seen on our searches about York. It seemed busy at first but, upon entering, we noticed that the café stretches back further that it first seemed so we grabbed a table quickly and de-layered. I love Winter and wearing layers but dear lord it’s a chore when you go for a sit down lunch! The café does feel a bit small but it adds to the snug, relaxed nature of the place. Service was quick and friendly, the specials board chalked up right next to us, listing some delicious options for lunch and, it seemed, heartier options for dinner. I went for the mozzarella, roasted vegetables, and pesto panini and it was delicious. I love me some roasted vegetables! I was happy with mozzarella instead of the usual goats cheese, giving it a different kind of creaminess. All the meals that passed by our table seems wholesome and filling, nothing too avent-garde, just simple and healthy. Dessert and cake looked ridiculously sweet and, therefore, delicious, but we didn’t have room! Would recommend to all going to the Minster area to pop in to Café Concerto and give it a go.

Cute little café right by the Minster. Stopped in here for a light lunch. I was freezing cold from the rain and wanted something to warm me up, so I ordered the leek and potato soup, which came with a choice of French or granary baguette. The soup was excellent, rich and flavorful. Their desserts looked really good and I am now regretting not trying one. Someday I hope to return to York and try other dishes here, including dessert!

Spotted the QYPE sticker on the street. Thought,” let’s give it a shot”. What a place! The best French toast in York. Huge latte too Expensive, but good.

Okay after that disasterous trip to Paris way back when Im not really into france but someone had said that this was a good place to go for cake and I do love a good bit of cake. The place is a little odd with random odd furniture and sheet music on the walls. We went in the day time as I dont get to stay in York to often overnight My lovely fella tried the tomato soup which was rich and thich and quite nice apparently. I dont like this soup so I had a bread thing which had cheese veg and tomato melted over it which was quite nice. The puddings were lovely though I went for the chocoalte cake which was gooey and sweet and knicked some of my fellas croissant which was warm and tasted even better with some chocoalte cake on top. It was quite good though they werent that quick but thats okay as I am never in a hurry when in York

Lovely lovely lovely, and Gluten Free! Once upon a time I was on the fast track to Unilocal nirvana… Unilocaler extraordinaire that I am, you see, I was being considered for the Unilocalster status of Elite ’09. I had it all, snappy reviews, clever turns of phrase, and a niche… I seemed to be the only person Unilocaling regularly in western Surrey at the time. Then 2009 happened. Miscarriages, deaths in the family, truly the stuff of Dickens. To cap it all off, our son became progressively skinny, despondent and sick only to be diagnosed with coeliac disease(or as we yanks quaintly spell it celiac disease), which in the end, turned out to be a relief… finally getting an answer and relief to his worries. So in the end, Unilocaling fell by the wayside, as more pressing concerns rose into my life.(That and all their«Elite» events are in London.) And this is point of my post here. Any other Unilocalers out there looking for a tasty GF meal in York, Café Concerto is one of the first places to stop. I recommend a tasty brekky, owing to the GF toast that you can order with your GF full English breakfast. But this place isn’t a grainy, seed-filled, overly socially conscious granola-house, even though they do have vegetarian sausage. The food is so so good. The coffee delightful. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable(about the GF thing, too), and entirely friendly. To top that off, you get to sit in decore that has musical instruments decorating the walls, and old sheet music for wallpaper. I felt cool, just walking in the place. So whether you need the special dietary concern, or are just out for a plain old excellent breakfast. Café Concerto is the place.
