Really a 2.5 in my opinion — better than average but not an «A-OK», while my other half decided definitely average! Nice family atmosphere — very busy and would have been far too cramped if all the covers had been taken up. My chair was already back to back with the empty one behind me — heaven help me if another; how will I say — generously proportioned chap, like me was placed behind me! Very good and friendly service and we all had different mains to compare — Chorizo Risotto, Lasagne, Carbonara and I had ham pizza. Bread was brought out while waiting but the mains all arrived very quickly — aside from the pizza, pre-prepared and micro-ed was a likely occurrence perhaps? All full adult portions, so the bairns did well and all the food had original something to them but not anything to give an oomph. e. g. Like my pizza had a wee je né sais quoi — I know — wrong lingo but can’t say that it improved the taste? Staff were great with kids and we had a good chat with the host. I would try it again but my wife was a strict no.

We had a nice lunch here. Good food and good service. Lots of people came in for coffee while we were here.

We were going to Strada Cucina when our B&B host caught up with us and asked where were going. He kind of winced and said you might want to try Bari in shambles area. What a FANTASTIC choice! My gf had lasagna and I had the carbonara. It was awesome. Then we see they make zabaglione and we knew we were in the real deal. Go here, you will not regret it.

To be honest, I was quite surprised that Bari had such good ratings on Unilocal, but then again I only went there once. The location in the shambles is great and it is fun to have such original ambiances(English outside — Italian inside) next to each other. The service was quick, friendly and helpful, so no issues there. However, what struck me the most was the quality of the food, which was in no relation to the price(I guess you pay for the shambles experience anyway and since I am not a tourist, I just don’t appreciate it as much). I had pasta rigatoni with peas and tomato sauce. The peas were obviously out of a can, over cooked and everything but fresh. The sauce was runny and tasteless. The pasta was way to soft. So I think the whole dish had been reheated after sitting in the kitchen for too long and the ingredients were not good enough to make up for it. After reading a few reviews here, I might actually go back and give it another try.

Bari is good for several reasons. First, it’s located in the Shambles, one of York’s most touristed and famous spots. If you sit near the front windows you can watch all the people walking down the narrow street and just enjoy the scenery of the Shambles. Second, it’s got really great food at a reasonable price. The pasta dishes are lovely, although the pizza is nice too. The portions are good and the food is always filling. Third, the staff are fantastic. They are usually walking around singing and cheerful, definitely a great atmosphere. I have eaten here several times and each one was a positive experience.

Authentic Italian cuisine The food was excellent, i would recommend a pizza the bases on them were very thin and light. Food was average in price for York — around £7−8 for a pizza. It gets very busy at weekends and so you may need to book. The staff were also very friendly.

We’ve been to York for New Year a few times and each time booked to go here for our meal. It’s a fairly small traditional Italian restaurant and when we’ve been there’s been a great atmosphere(maybe in part due to the time of year). For New Year the prices have been pretty reasonable and the food is really good. Located down the Shambles so it’s really close to other bars/pubs in the area. I love the Shambles area anyway. Also, because it’s central to York if you are staying in one of the many B & Bs you can probably walk in to the City and save money on taxis etc. I would recommend here for a meal in York!
