Stayed here for a wedding last weekend and the hotel was absolutely amazing. there is absolutely not on single bad word i could say about anything. i only wish i had gotten the name of some of the staff so i could thank them. the setting is magnificent. it really is like staying in a castle. the girl on check-in,(the small blonde, i can say that being vertically challenged myself) was so nice to us; my aunt wanted to check in early for a nap and we swapped rooms and she was great and so helpful with everything. the wedding itself was amazing and a special thanks to the manager who looked after the whole thing, he was fantastic. i know it was Andy or Adam, i want to say Adam. he is an absolute credit to your hotel, a great advertisement for you. the bar didn’t stop serving me till 4am which might be the only thing id change, but just for me. lol. send me to bed. breakfast was great. now i just have to pray that some other of my relatives gets married here.

Stayed here for work(8÷24−9÷5). The room cost wasn’t paid for out of my pocket — so my review might be a bit better than if I had paid for it myself. Here’s a quick good/bad of the hotel: Good: — beautiful grounds — free breakfast — spacious rooms — clean — good food — good beer — friendly staff — free wifi Bad: — no a/c — no elevator for guest rooms — limited food options — NOTHING within walking distance — if there is a wedding, then you WILL hear it. No matter where you are in the hotel. — food/beverages are slightly expensive for what you get. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here if I were to pay for this on my own — mostly because I am always warm and like a cold room. I also prefer an elevator when lugging 2 weeks worth of luggage to my room. For a wedding, I can see the allure, though. It is beautiful.

Every member of staff we spoke to in this hotel was warm, friendly and obliging. It didn’t matter to me that there were plenty of Eastern European staff, after all this is not Downton Abbey. There were plenty of locals too and they were just as charming as the non indigenous staff. This is a delightful and beautiful estate, with a quite remarkable arboretum in its grounds(including the progenitor of all corkscrew hazel trees! If you like that kind of thing!) and set in rural Gloucestershire. Some of the buildings, internally as well as externally, are very evocative and it was quite something to dine and have breakfast in the Moreton Room, a gigantic wood-panelled library. Everything was clean, from the bedrooms to the public areas. I have to confess — yes it’s a confession — I used the spa and had a lovely ‘taster facial’ from a calm and friendly young woman who didn’t make me feel for a minute like an overprivileged vain middle-aged saddo, which is kind of how I went in there feeling. It was all very relaxing. We very much enjoyed using the(well-appointed and good-sized) pool, jaccuzzi, steam room and sauna. The steps down from the women’s changing room and sauna to the pool are a bit of a slip-fest but there are double handrails to grip on to as you skid your way down or up. Normally when we get away for a break, we organise everything around where and what we are going to eat. This time we just went for the setting, and so were a little wary that Tortworth Court doesn’t have a reputation for fabulous food. In the event, the food was fine. Main courses were particularly fine. We were mildly alarmed by the speed of delivery(starter, main and pud all despatched within 40 minutes). There was the odd thing that would have got pulled up on Masterchef — my dessert plate had some sticky fingerprints on it, but I didn’t mind because the mulled strawberries were so very nice; my mushroom/garlic pâté was a bit ‘moussy’ and so on — but all in all it was consistently good while lacking in any flair or wow factor. The wine list was good and reasonable, but beware the grossly overpriced bar. Breakfast was plentiful & varied although the coffee was insipid and the sausages tasted cheap and salty. Balancing that, the mushrooms were really good and the chef poaches a mean egg. It’s a shame that there isn’t some kind of discreet sheltered smoking area to the side of the building: as it was raining on the weekend we visited, smokers were congregating in gaggles right outside the main entrance door which didn’t look or smell very appealing. We were very appreciative of the thoughtful touches in our room, including an appealing range of toiletries and the free mini bottles of wine to complement the water. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would certainly come again.

A really very good hotel, amazing architecture in this renovated(saved from ruin) property. A very big hotel, very deceiving, you can easily get lost trying to find your way around the corridors. Shame the staff seem nearly all eastern european in such a very english setting, kind of takes away from it a bit. The food is average. The orangery restaurant is impressive to look at but very average and very expensive food. Not really worth it. Rooms all very nice, good size, clean and comfortable. All in all a good hotel, but slightly pricey for what it is really.
