Described as a gastropub we found this on the way between the M5 on the A38 to Berkeley. The exterior looks just like a standard middle of the road pub although I believe it does rooms too. Greeted by a very bubbly bar maid who asked us what we wanted to drink, I also asked for the menu and found a table to sit down at we ordered the food at the bar and it wasn’t long before our food arrived. The food was fresh, very tasty. Not long after we were asked by one waitress if everything was ok and if we wanted anything else to which I replied everything was fine I was then asked again by the manager everything was ok and if I wanted anything else again responded everything is fine I was asked a third time by the bubbly barmaid if everything was ok and if you want anything else, there’s a fine line between efficiency and being over the top when running any sort of establishment giving service you’ll probably find the Huntsman is typically quite well run but they hop over the line of acceptable over attentiveness, it’s really about meaning what you say and saying what you mean and knowing when to stop, they are obviously trying to be as customer focussed as they can be, the training(over-training) has taken place but they haven’t got the buy in from all the staff. The décor is a little worn and tired. Could not fault the service and food. Can’t give more than three stars for the over attentiveness, lacking the genuine feel, the seats are filthy, more than a couple of days worth of dust and the tiredness of the furnishing.
