Romans Rest

Called in over the weekend for the first time, very busy and it took a while for our food to arrive but well worth the wait. Excellent steaks, will definitely call in again.

Went for the first time (Wednesday night 03/​08/​2011).
(the bill came to over £20 for two of us).
We both had starters prawn cocktails, however they didn’t come with any sauce, but had a separate tiny little pot on the side of the plate (I love the sauce and is the only reason I ever have prawn cocktail so was rather disappointed).
I had the sirloin steak and Cheryl had Fajita’s. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare, but was a bit too rare for me, could have done with a bit longer. It was supposed to be 8oz however had about 4oz of fat on it :(Beer prices were good and they did server John Smiths. Atmosphere was drab, there wasn’t any background music playing though and all you could hear was chav FM every time the kitchen door was flung open. Does have a beer garden that looked like it would be good in the sunshine & even a kids play area at the end of the building.
Not somewhere I would rush back to, but the service was good (no one else in the pub though) and food was average for that kind of pub (could have been better). Not great value for money but wasn’t a complete rip-​off.

A large pub situated at one end of a small retail park on a residential estate. This pub is part of the Greene King chain so the cask ales were IPA and Abbot in addition to the usual range of lagers and keg beers. It is family friendly with an indoor play centre for the kids and areas for both bar and family dining. The food menu is the usual pub grub with «specials» each day. There was a reasonable choice on offer and the food was cooked well, was hot, reasonably presented and the prices about average for this type of menu. Worth a visit if you are out with the kids around lunchtime.

Lovely pub and great people…

hard to say with this one sometimes its food is a little, erm. microwaved and at other times its absolutely gorgeous but on the whole its been a higher percentage of good than bad and the building itself is a excellent eating experience with its nice cosy fire burning while you eat and the comfy seating its definately somewhere we will be using again and again

Been here once, when a friend invited us along to ‘help’ them with the pub quiz, and I was quite surprised at just how nice it was.
We sat in lovely large, comfy sofas, and after buying the original round at the bar, we were waited on at the table. I’m not sure if that’s just on quiz nights, but it made a lovely change.
Prices were fairly average for this type of family/​food pub, and I didn’t eat but friends said that it’s not bad at all. There’s also a play area, but I didn’t have the kids with me so didn’t check that out — again I was told it’s good.
Handy as there’s a small Tesco next door and a few take-​aways so depending on how much you’ve had to drink, you can pick up a kebab and/​or a pint of milk on the way home.

Much improved from original standards at time of opening. Good interior and exterior, well lit, good service. Live entertainment occasionally. Excellent car park just outside. Family friendly. Large play area for children

The Romans Rest is located in the Suburb of Gateford, which is a district of the town of Worksop. It has been set up in a newly developed business and shopping area and therefore boasts some pretty decent facilities. It has a decent outdoor area for smokers with heated lights and also a childrens play area. They offer your standard beers, lagers, bitters and ciders that you would expect and are slightly more pricey than a lot of the Worksop pubs due to its area. The pub has a wide variety of food on its menu, which are priced to an average standard and sometimes do not deliver, especially on portion sizes they really could give you a bit more!
