Last week myself and a friend popped into the Crown for a lunchtime drink. The sun was shining so we sat outside on the patio. My choice of drink was a large glass of white wine which I must say was very mediocre, so I decided to try something else for my next drink, so I asked the barmaid what she had in the way of a Rose. Her answer was very curt, and not at all informative, far too busy talking to some other people standing at the bar, so I just ordered a large glass of Rose, paid, and went back to my seat. I then realised that I had been given a small glass of wine, so I returned to the bar with my Rose, and the empty large glass, whereupon the barmaid suddenly spouted in a very dismissive tone that she had only charged me for a small glass, and continued her chat! I returned to the patio. Next some children arrived, and promptly started to jump from table to table, shouting rather loudly, so we drank up and left. Yes the standards have dropped very much so, as when I have visited in the past, the staff have always been very friendly, and most welcoming, and lets face it in these times, every customer should count!!! I shall not return!

This used to be a lovely pub but under recent management changes has rapidly gone downhill. Under the latest management it has finally hit rock bottom. Popped in with my wife and 14 month old son early one Sunday evening when it was quiet. First of all, it took a while to get seated as we had to remove piles of condiments and other stuff which had been piled on all the baby high-chairs. When we ordered with the friendly but far from interested and totally inexperienced bar staff, there was a long wait for the food to come out. The kitchen rang the bell a few times and eventually the chef had to come out and fetch one of the bar staff to serve up the food. My wife had fajitas, admittedly freshly-cooked, which came in a miniscule portion(with the grated cheese served in a gravy boat?). The chicken was rubbery and the vegetables overcooked to the point of being rubbery and tasteless. I ordered from the favourites menu and was served a dish which was tasty, even though it was clearly a microwave meal. My portion was so small, it should have qualified for the children’s menu and the limp, brown lettuce, two pieces of cucumber and token chunk of tomato dished up as a side-salad was a joke. Not only this, The Crown used to have a good selection of ales on offer. Now it only has one plus Banks’s Mild hardly a good selection.

The Crown is your typical chain type pub that serves food as well. Popped in after work for a bite to eat and a beer and was satisfactorily fed and watered. The staff were are very friendly and attentive being the major asset in another souless but functional pub. The mixed grill was very good, very filling and arrived in no time at all; but there were only 2 others customers in the bar.

Went here on a very busy Saturday night and had no problem getting a table for 5. The food was ordered at the bar and arrived very quickly(within 5 – 10 mins). The food was very reasonably priced although the portions matched the price. Food was delicious, certainly above average for pub grub. Staff were very friendly and the surroundings were very nice. Would recommed a visit.
